Saw we needed a new thread. Hope revision going well.

DD has only done one exam so far 😭She’s like a bundle of nervous energy tbh and keen to get into them properly. She has a bit of an unusual subject combo, hence the drawn out timetable (and clashes this week too).

Notcontent · 09/06/2024 13:07

Dd has only had two exams so far. For some reason all the maths, bio and chem exams are all in June and some are very close together.

W0tnow · 10/06/2024 13:05

Ahh, ok. Mine is international so she’s finished by this Friday. It’s like the last 5k in a marathon. Seems to take forever!

Notcontent · 10/06/2024 13:50

You’re right @W0tnow - it feels like it’s been a marathon ever since they started prepping for the UCAT! At least for me and my dd!

Mumofboys2006 · 12/06/2024 06:11

Yes, we are the same! All close together next week. Maths yesterday (paper 2), and Bio later this week.

All going ok except he’s saying the Maths has been much harder this year so I’m starting to stress now. It’s always been his hardest subject and the one he revises the most but he needs an A 😳

Notcontent · 12/06/2024 11:48

@Mumofboys2006 my dd said yesterday’s maths paper was really hard. She is doing edexcel.

Mumofboys2006 · 12/06/2024 14:50

@Notcontent thats good to know. He’s at a grammar schools and is surrounded by Maths whizzes who are finding it all quite manageable so difficult to know how he’s going. They’ll all probably come out with A*s!

Sybill · 14/06/2024 18:07

Hope this week has gone well for everyone- DD has an exam every day next week, which means this time next week, we’ll all be 🥂!!! Almost there everyone 🤞🤞

Groundhogday2021 · 16/06/2024 23:33

Best of luck @Sybill dd! That’s a very exam heavy week 🤦🏻‍♀️ Hope all goes well.

My dd has her last 3 exams this week and is counting down the days to be ‘free’ for the Summer! What an academic year of hard work and resilience! Look forward to hopefully some good news on results day as we all head toward the final hurdle. 🤞🤞

Sybill · 17/06/2024 07:43

Thanks @Groundhogday2021 and to your DD too (am guessing its Chem and Bio left for her?) It has been quite the year and hopefully all worth it come August 15th! 🤞🤞

Waferbiscuit · 17/06/2024 18:04

Anyone else's DC on the IB route? Exams were in May and results come out 6 July which I suppose is good as will not have to wait all summer and opportunity to plan etc.

DD feels she did horribly (especially on math and chem) and won't get the needed grades so having to mentally prepare her for the worst.

@Mumofboys2006 IIRC your first choice BSMS? Ditto for us.

Sybill · 18/06/2024 18:32

God luck to your DD for results day @Waferbiscuit and really hoping she gets what she needs 🤞IB seems really tough but good to know one way or the other that bit sooner.

Mumofboys2006 · 21/06/2024 21:48

Hi all, we are finally at the end of a pretty hard week - four exams on consecutive days! 😅

Maths paper 3 went a lot better than paper 2 🤞🏼🤞🏼

Taking DS out of town for what feels like the first time in ages tomorrow!

@Waferbiscuit - yes BSMS is our first choice - he turned down Bham in the end which was a tough decision so hope and pray he gets the grades he needs!🙏🏼

4andnotcounting · 22/06/2024 10:13

Has anyone’s dc got a job for the summer? Mine seems very resistant to getting one - he says he needs a rest. I’ve said he can relax for a week but then needs to start working after that . Am I being too hard?

Waferbiscuit · 22/06/2024 14:51

@4andnotcounting my Dd is working at a kids holiday camp in a school for just 7 weeks from July to mid August so it's not too much. She has now til then off then a few weeks after that and weekends.

I worked every summer from age 14 so totally normal.

I would encourage him to see what he can find. If his friends are working it might be a lonely summer.

Thethingswedoforlove · 22/06/2024 14:52

@4andnotcounting i would say it depends on how much he needs the money? We are letting our dd relax this summer and next as those are the only ones she gets off and she has quite a lot of savings from a job she has when in sixth form: but we aren’t giving her any more money in the summer to tide her over. So it’s sort of up to her. But we were relatively generous during her first year so that if she was careful she could prob survive with no job. But if she needed it to survive in the rest of her uni life I might feel more strongly aboht it

Sybill · 22/06/2024 15:12

DD has a post-A level holiday with her friends in a couple of weeks, and some hobby stuff going on, so mainly chilling out until we go away to visit family in July. She can pick up shifts in the job she’s had since she started sixth form so will do that as needed to keep her bank balance healthy and keep the savings going for uni!

Notcontent · 22/06/2024 15:18

My dd would ideally pick up a job but she has another commitment over July and then we have a family holiday in august so it may not be practical.

OwlMother · 22/06/2024 21:11

Ds has taken it easy in July, a couple of city breaks, generally chilling. He's on holiday most of July and then will work 6 days a week throughout August. Seems quite a good balance. All of my dc worked as soon as they were able, and as a result are adept at fitting work in around studying and socialising. I do think there's a lot to be said for having a good work ethic and earning your own money.

Yes, I agree. All my sisters children worked around study.

DS has worked in a volunteer capacity during A levels, but is resistant to working now. Maybe he just needs a proper break. Never been abroad. He has made some applications this week (albeit reluctantly)
I’m liking the idea of telling him to have have x number of days/ weeks to relax, and then shift work perhaps? think he might find that more appealing.
I had initially said he needed to work full time until uni. Maybe that’s why he was so resistant.
He would need the money , as I have nothing to give him. It will be loans and whatever he earns.
Thanks to all the responses 💐

Sybill · 05/07/2024 09:02

@Waferbiscuit best of luck to your DD for IB results tomorrow 🤞 she gets what she needs for her offer

Waferbiscuit · 05/07/2024 09:07

@Sybill that is so kind. Thank you. Will report back!

mumsneedwine · 06/07/2024 15:38

If anyone had no offers St George's is in clearing.

Good luck to any IB students (& mums).

DD for her results. All other courses great but got a 4 in chemistry rather than the 6 needed so that means she won't be going to med school. Gutting for her but a space will open up for someone else. Good luck all!

Waferbiscuit · 06/07/2024 17:11

Oops typo - DD 'got' her results not 'for'
