Adding new thread as other full up!
For Bath query: Deadline is 1 July for guaranteed first year. It says on the website that it's randomly allocated according to stated preference and course status (don't know what that means). There's a lot of preferences! Not just catered/self catered and the building, but quiet/single sex/LGBTQ/additional requirements/even those with assistance animals!
It really wouldn't be fair to do it first come first serve unless they had all the offers out first (which they don't as we are still waiting).

Congrats @TenSheds! I'm sure the grades will be achieved!

Well done @TenSheds 😃 what subject was it for (DD still waiting for Edinburgh for History and Spanish)

TenSheds · 10/04/2024 08:42

@MirandaWest Very similar, classics and modern language, so hopefully you'll hear soon.

Pinniemummy · 10/04/2024 18:55

Has anyone had an offer for Clinical Psychology at Exeter? My child had an interview mid March but nothing yet. Also waiting on Bath!

MerchSwyddEfrog · 10/04/2024 23:54

Ds still waiting for UCL, he sent an email on Monday and no reply so far. He applied nearly 6 months ago. It’s shockingly bad really that they haven’t sent out all their decisions but have opened their accommodation portal! He has grades in hand and exceeds their entry standards and it’s not a massively competitive course. Come on UCL if you are reading this get a move on.

mondaytosunday · 11/04/2024 13:00

@MerchSwyddEfrog I agree it's terrible to open up accommodation before all offers are made. I see no advantage for the uni for doing this (other than those who dangle it if you firm them, but thought this wasn't allowed any more). All it does is make applicants very anxious. Ditto having offer holder days before all offers are out but at the same time saying 'book early'!
Why not wait til end of May? All offers out, most decisions made, plenty of time still to allocate (which is often done after results day anyway).
Good luck on the offer (we are waiting on Bath and LSE, but if latter she will live at home).

We are still waiting for Warwick and I agree I don’t think it’s fair unis open their accommodation before all offers are out, it just makes the whole process more stressful. I wish they would hurry up and reject DS if they are going to. Think it’s quite cruel if you get a rejection on deadline day to be honest!

BiancaBlank · 11/04/2024 14:53

I was catching up with a friend the other day whose husband works at KCL in computing department. He says so far they’ve only made a third of their offers, but they have 4000 applications for 400 places, most of whom have the same excellent predicted grades. So in the absence of admissions tests or interviews, they spend ages poring over each application, looking for those wafer-thin margins that might lift one applicant above another. I imagine this is similar for other competitive unis/courses, but christ, it does make for a tedious wait for the kids!

At least many unis don’t operate a first-come first-serve policy on accommodation; they certainly don’t at Warwick

Turquoisesea · 11/04/2024 15:16

@BiancaBlank that’s interesting and I know for the course my DS has applied for some offers were sent out in late April last year. DS will go to Nottingham if he doesn’t get offered Warwick but unfortunately their accommodations has already opened and on a first-come-first serve basis so that’s why I’m stressing!

daffodilandtulip · 13/04/2024 13:05

Has anyone applied for Student Finance yet, who also has a Student loan of their own? When I've come to add my evidence, it won't let me because it says my national insurance number is linked to another account ... mine! I've tried to call them and the wait time is almost 2 hours!

MerchSwyddEfrog · 13/04/2024 14:32

No we haven’t applied for student finance yet. Not looking forward to that and not sure how it will work as we are applying to student finance Wales but both myself and dh had small loans in the early 90’s from sfe.
Good luck @daffodilandtulip hope you manage to sort it. I had read that if you call early then you get spoken to much quicker.

Headingto18 · 13/04/2024 14:35

Firmed Durham, insured Bristol; decided not to wait any longer for Edinburgh as wouldn’t have chosen it above either in the end. All places have same grade reqs so no real insurance anyway. Good luck to everyone with decisions still in the making

ShanghaiDiva · 13/04/2024 15:30

applied for the minimum loan and it was confirmed about a week or so later.

Edited

We were in the same position, I had to ring up for a password to set up an account but it was quite quick and straightforward and the call handler was pleasant.

Think I fell off this thread!

DD has firmed Exeter and insured Durham. Looks odd written down but makes sense to her! She’s submitted her accommodation application for Exeter. Does she still need to rank the colleges for Durham as her insurance? Seems like a waste of time as if she doesn’t get the grades for her firm then she’ll have lost out on Durham too.

We did her Student finance application last week too. Also only applying for minimum loan so very straight forward with no need to enter any parent information.

Revengeofthepangolins · 14/04/2024 17:58

@Rollergirl11 can't remember if your dd is contextual but otherwise isn't that AAB for Exeter and AstarAA for Durham? In which case, I agree, hard to see how college rankings could matter !

Revengeofthepangolins · 14/04/2024 17:59

Must feel great for her to have pressed the button though, nicely in time before term starts

Rollergirl11 · 14/04/2024 19:12

It’s ABC for Exeter and yes you’re correct for Durham @Revengeofthepangolins

Has your DS made his mind up yet? Does he have all 5 offers in now?

I had this issue.

I tried to upload the evidence written on a paper form via jpg, along with my decree absolute too.

Computer says no.

I posted the form off about a fortnight ago. Loan agreement emailed yesterday. 🎉

Headingto18 · 14/04/2024 21:40

@Rollergirl11 so that means no insurance in reality? DD’s insurance has the same grades and is unlikely to budge to accommodate lower grades so in the same position if slightly less dramatically so!

Oh thank you. I didn’t realise you could do it by post. I shall investigate!

Rollergirl11 · 14/04/2024 22:47

@Headingto18 yup that’s right. But not too much of a risk as DD almost certain to make her firm offer unless something goes very very wrong. She wasn’t going to put an insurance at all but people kept saying you should just in case the course is withdrawn or something unforeseeable like that.

How risky is it for your DD having the same grades for both? Are the offers very achievable for her?

Revengeofthepangolins · 15/04/2024 04:33

Yes - in mini roller's case it isn't that she doesn't have an insurance really - her firm is a grades below that she probably expected any insurance would be when she started the process!

@Rollergirl11 Yes, he finally got answers (happy ones) from his last one, Warwick, so has firmed Oxford and insured Warwick, who will take AstarAB as an alternative to AAA, which is what they were in the list for, as it were.

Just the long fingers crossed period now for them all.

Headingto18 · 15/04/2024 08:45

@Rollergirl11 on paper she should be ok as solidly below her predicted but we aren’t assuming anything re grade boundaries, exam pressures etc - so will make a plan B closer to results day

sammyjoanne · 16/04/2024 23:30
