St Andrews. Any RUK had any offers recently?

As the title says. Just seeing if anyone from RUK has heard lately. I know they offer late normally, but is there any movement at all? Particularly for STEM?
Will it really be April time?

We aren’t waiting for STEM, but Classics, home, contextual. Nothing forthcoming yet. An anxious wait! Not much on the St Andrews spreadsheet recently, either.

legobrickseverywhere · 05/02/2024 22:43

Do we know why they are always so late to offer/reject? It is an anxious wait, particularly because there offer rate seems quite small.

Waiting for maths here.

Garlicdoughball · 05/02/2024 23:15

My DD is waiting for STEM and not heard anything yet. She’s not too bothered as is a back up choice for her as they don’t do the specific degree she wants to do and she’s heard back from her first choice but if it helps at all, I don’t think anyone she knows has heard back from St Andrews yet.

It’s a small, highly selective, university. Plus, I do wonder if the recent Scottish Government funding cut for Scottish Universities is making them nervous about over offering places…for home students at least. Looking at last year’s spreadsheet it was Feb/March when most offers/rejections came out.

Waiting for MFL here. Grades in hand so thought might be speedier but not proving to be so. For info, St Andrews don’t always ‘reject’, the application simply times out once the (May?) UCAS deadline is reached.

LittleRedintheHood · 06/02/2024 12:08

Waiting for History.

Gosh, I didn’t know that. That is a real shame. To not even have any contact from them!

The Reddit spreadsheet has a RUK (IB) St Andrews offer today for Philosophy, but I’m not sure when it was received as the person hasn’t recorded it fully.

Karmacat · 06/02/2024 14:52

My DS didn't get an offer until end of March last year. I remember how long the wait felt as it was definitely his number one choice. They are always pretty late with a lot of the offers/rejections. Anyway, he's now in his first year and loving every minute so it was worth the wait!!!

Great to hear!

DD received an offer for Physics a couple of hours after the Cambridge rejection. Contextual. We were expecting St A to be the last to offer (or reject) so a nice surprise.

Delphigirl · 06/02/2024 20:01

modern languages, nothing here yet. It is dds second or third choice and will probably be a higher offer than her first choice so she might not bother waiting for it.

legobrickseverywhere · 06/02/2024 20:20

Congrats to those with offers already.
I didn’t realise that they might not reply at all! Surely they have an obligation to respond to an application?
DS has a Durham offer, which he is very happy with. But would also be delighted with the option of St Andrews too.
Does anyone have the link to the Reddit spreadsheet at all? Thanks

One of DD's friends has a St A offer for maths but I'm not sure when it came through, maybe a month or so ago.

Cx5 · 06/02/2024 20:48

It would be helpful to know soon, St. A and Edinburgh were last a minute decision for my DS so we didn't visit their open days. Although not currently top of his list it would be good to plan a visit to both so he can make his final choice on where he wants to go.

legobrickseverywhere · 06/02/2024 21:36

Does Edinburgh or St Andrews normally reply first? Waiting on them too!
When are dates for offer holder days released?

My two had fairly quick replies from Edinburgh. More details to follow about their offer holder days but they said they are 12th and 26th April.

Garlicdoughball · 06/02/2024 22:10

DD had Edinburgh reply on the date if the UCAS submission deadline but we’re in Scotland and the grades she already has from Highers were above the offer/typical offer level - I assume everyone in that situation is quite straightforward for them to deal with.

legobrickseverywhere · 06/02/2024 22:10

Are the offer holder days subject specific? It would make sense that all offers would be made before then. But I suppose that’s logical!

Edinburgh is a great uni. But I think perhaps a bit too large for DS. He is prob more suited to a smaller city.

OP posts:
Garlicdoughball · 06/02/2024 22:23

Edinburgh is a very compact city. I went there and was from a very rural area. I got very lost in a fog in the first week but that quickly became a memory that seemed ridiculous a short time later.

Chaotica · 06/02/2024 22:36

We're still waiting for St Andrews and Edinburgh. Thanks @Cx5 for the offer holder dates above - we're so far away, we didn't get chance to visit and so I was going to wait until an offer came in. If they're really late, we won't get the chance.

Garlicdoughball · 07/02/2024 15:03

DD has just told me there is an Edinburgh offer holders day on 17th of April. Says it’s a generic session.

Innisfree · 07/02/2024 15:35

We are only 45 mins from St Andrews so able to go to an offer holder day at short notice, if DS gets an offer that is!
