Anyone received an offer from LSE yet?

I believe they make offers after UCAS closes, wondering how quickly? Anyone else waiting?

DD added it as a wild card (we live in London so initially all were ruled out). Only the day before deadline though! I think some offers have trickled out - check TSR. What course?

indigoskies · 04/02/2024 17:35

LSE is an especially weird one. They sit on applications for months and admissions don't answer phones or emails. It's radio silence. Then, they trickle offers out - it used to be offers on a Thu and rejections on a Fri, but only a few subjects per week. This goes on until May, I'm sorry to say.

Hopefully you will hear soon - every subject is different.

They seem to care less about grades and more about whether your PS is specifically tailored to their modules - as if students aren't applying to 4 other unis! it's odd to use the PS as the decider, in my view, because some obviously have more help with the PS than others. But they don't interview and everyone has the grades, so I guess they have to use something.

The problem is that, for those who receive later offers, there is less choice of accommodation, as people can book rooms as their offers come in (unlike UCL and Durham who allocate in the summer for everyone once places are firmed).

@mondaytosunday my DC applied for IR, but only completed UCAS on 29th. Good luck you your DD

@indigoskies DC has one contextual factor - not sure if that will make a difference, it's insanely competetive!

My DS is in Y2 at LSE, they are notoriously slow to offer, he didn’t get his offer until April. He got his first choice of accommodation regardless.

Penguinsa · 04/02/2024 22:40

Not yet. 3 offers in, 2 to hear including LSE. Economics.

mondaytosunday · 05/02/2024 16:02

@thankyouforthedayz she's applied for Sociology, which considering its ranking for that subject by CUG (just behind Oxbridge and Bath) it seems overshadowed by the Economics and Law courses - can hardly find a thing on YouTube that isn't at least six years old.
She added it as she thought why not, it was between there and Edinburgh, and she has second, third and fourth guessed herself if she chose the right one! Have you visited? Their website says they do make contextual offers but no idea on what basis.

Wronginformation · 05/02/2024 16:04

DD also at Lse got her offer late April and still also got her first choice accommodation

Cremebrulee45 · 05/02/2024 18:51

Also waiting on LSE (having applied in October). If she got an offer it would be DD’s insurance but this means that accommodation would be a big worry I think?

Schlappe · 05/02/2024 19:00

They usually come out Feb/March so should be soon

Try the lse website and their virtual ug open day

mondaytosunday · 05/02/2024 19:46

Yes the LSE ones on the website are six years old. I mean ones by students.

SendmetoWales · 06/02/2024 21:53

We got a rejection this week.

Cremebrulee45 · 06/02/2024 22:15

Sorry to hear that SendmetoWales

SendmetoWales · 06/02/2024 22:20

Thank you @Cremebrulee45 good luck to everyone still waiting 🤞🏻

Don't put a London uni as insurance unless you're happy to take a gap year! Accommodation is impossible by Results Day. Zero chance of university halls, and all private halls for any semi-sensible price are booked out well before then. I've seen lots of students on WIWIKAU having to defer, including med students who had UCL as insurance with Cambridge as firm.

Cremebrulee45 · 07/02/2024 11:28

@Whalesong oh dear. Is there no movement after results day if people don’t make offers etc? Still waiting on Lse offer but it is the clear 2nd choice which may well be needed.

Whalesong · 07/02/2024 12:56

I think they already have very long waiting lists by Results Day. I've also seen cases where the student had firmed eg UCL but missed the June deadline for applying for accommodation and there was nothing to be done.
I guess you could always put down a deposit for a room in private halls now (there should still be some available, although the best ones will be gone very soon) but you might have to be prepared to lose it. No risk of not finding someone to take the room if your daughter doesn't need it though!

Revengeofthepangolins · 07/02/2024 14:38

But private halls in London are generally iniquitous as aimed at the rich internationals market

Oldowl · 07/02/2024 16:43

DD went to LSE and worked for the accommodation office one summer. Lots of places in halls become available on results day as a good number of students drop grades and miss out on a place; thus releasing a room. After a week, post results day, these spare rooms are offered to returning students (2nd and 3rd years). DD was in halls in her 1st and 2nd year and has a friend who was in LSE halls all 3 years.

Cremebrulee45 · 07/02/2024 16:55

@Oldowl thanks that is a bit more hopeful then! Just speculating at the moment as not got offer yet but DD would hate to miss out on it as it’s such a great insurance. She gets her results early July (IB) but that is unlikely to help as too late for spaces at that point.
Was your Dd happy there?

Oldowl · 07/02/2024 17:03

@Cremebrulee45 Yes she was very happy there and had lots of opportunities like going on a field trip to Cuba, attending an all expenses paid 5 day sustainability conference in Paris and meeting lots of great people from all round the students.

Cremebrulee45 · 07/02/2024 17:08

Wonderful opportunities!

thankyouforthedayz · 07/02/2024 20:21

@SendmetoWales sorry, I hope your DC has other offers. I'm feeling a bit cross that LSE seem to be such prima Donna's, keeping everyone waiting and disadvantaging them re accommodation. My DC would definitely accept an offer if lucky enough to get one, but we are realistic that the chances are very slim.

@thankyouforthedayz Thank you! He does hold two other offers and is waiting for two more but definitely disappointed as LSE was the dream! We knew it would come down to the personal statement which is a shame really as on the whole he had a really strong application.
