Conservatoire applications

Is anyone else looking to apply for a 2025 Conservatoire place? We have just started the process and it’s a steep learning curve!

We’re aware that for some of the more prestigious colleges it’s useful to have an idea of which tutor you would like before you attend the audition. Has anyone else come across this?

@Siriusmuggle Completely agree with this. Loving the HP analogy! Ds didn't get the vibe at RBC plus as were in the far south east, he felt the distance was too much. He didn't apply to RNCM or RWSMD for the same reasons. He did limit himself massively. TL is absolutely the right fit for him.

Violasrule · 08/11/2024 14:12

@Siriusmuggle totally agree! This has been true for so much in DCs musical life so far.

One audition done - this morning at RCS. 4 to go. DC doesn’t have a clear favourite. Let’s hope the HP magic works over the coming weeks!

Hi all, Ram auditions out

Hi all, Ram auditions out

Nothing from RAM yet here

Baili · 09/11/2024 15:57

Nor here (for violin). Perhaps they are being allocated dates in instrument groups

disorganisedmummy · 09/11/2024 16:00

From memory, RAM dates were the very last to come out last year and auditions were mid December. It was a very long wait.

Maryward · 09/11/2024 19:02

Hi, it was an email sent to my dc late on Friday afternoon. He is a string instrument.

Mumoftheweek · 12/11/2024 09:17

RAM email arrived!

Pollyanna8234 · 12/11/2024 09:22

Same here, finally! DS has auditions on consecutive days

Nomorecoconutboosts · 12/11/2024 10:18

Dd had Birmingham yesterday, seemed to go reasonably ok
results in 2-3 weeks.

next stop Cardiff then T Laban, got a crazy weekend near end of November for these with a different open day in the middle! Thankfully we are in the Midlands which is easier for travelling. (Most of the time I’m wishing we were nearer the coast)

Any thoughts in Leeds vs Birmingham for jazz? We've got an offer for Leeds and Birmingham audition had good feedback so fingers crossed. Now in trying to figure out which would be 'best' if it comes to choosing.

There's a jazz guitarist in my son's flat at RBC. Seems very happy and the Eastside Jazz Club is fab! If you have any specific questions I can ask DS. He's in a different department but does some recording with the jazz department.

Leeds was DS' second choice, also a great place and city. Difficult choice!

Nomorecoconutboosts · 12/11/2024 22:46

@fruitpastille congratulations to your ds re the Leeds offer.

(sorry I know nothing about Jazz but dd is hoping for Birmingham).
Hopefully if your ds is offered a Birmingham as well as Leeds he will have had chance by then to think about which he would prefer.

Nomorecoconutboosts · 13/11/2024 20:23

Just to update - dc was unsuccessful for Birmingham yesterday. Notified her today via UCAS
so perhaps if it’s a definite no they let people know quite quickly?
onwards and upwards - 2 to go
all good wishes for others waiting and/or preparing

disorganisedmummy · 13/11/2024 21:15

@Nomorecoconutboosts Oh I'm sorry to hear that. How has DD taken it? Hope she's ok and not too upset/disappointed. I know it was her first choice. The rejection emails are really tough. Big hugs and onwards and upwards to the next one. 🤞🏻💪🏻

Nomorecoconutboosts · 13/11/2024 22:21

@disorganisedmummy
aah how lovely of you to ask thank you
she’s ok so far.
yes it was her first choice but I’m wondering if Cardiff may be a good fit too.
(plus there is always next year, she was originally planning a gap year so we shall see)

Siriusmuggle · 13/11/2024 22:31

Rejection must be tough. Hopefully she’ll be successful at the next one. My Nan used to say “what’s for you won’t go by you”.

Nomorecoconutboosts · 13/11/2024 22:33

@Siriusmuggle
wise words from your Nan. Thank you

Siriusmuggle · 13/11/2024 22:48

She was a wise lady 😀

Maryward · 14/11/2024 03:45

@Nomorecoconutboosts
sorry to hear she didn’t get first choice. Very fast to learn result. Sometimes what they think is best isn’t and as posters has said ‘all happens for a reason’.
My dc has guildhall audition next week. I wonder if they give early results out too? Am nervous as I think it’s a good fit but rcm is dc’s first choice. Never got another rcs audition (couldnt make first one). So that’s out now it seems. Rcm & ram consecutive days first week December. Would be nice to know if offered or rejected a guildhall place before them!

Nomorecoconutboosts · 14/11/2024 06:27

@Maryward thank you
all the best to your dc as well

disorganisedmummy · 14/11/2024 06:47

@Maryward Morning, Guildhall results are very quick, often the next day!

Mumoftheweek · 14/11/2024 07:08

Not next day this year!

disorganisedmummy · 14/11/2024 07:21

@Mumoftheweek Oh was that not the case for your dc?

Baili · 14/11/2024 10:24

That’s a pity, but hope she is ok with that. Good that they are quick with results, the waiting would be awful!
