Conservatoire applications

Is anyone else looking to apply for a 2025 Conservatoire place? We have just started the process and it’s a steep learning curve!

We’re aware that for some of the more prestigious colleges it’s useful to have an idea of which tutor you would like before you attend the audition. Has anyone else come across this?

@annabelleee
Please do not listen to your uncle. Congratulations to your DD on her offers!

You will find that many tutors teach in different colleges. For example my DC had a consultation lesson with a tutor from Guildhall who also teaches at TL and there’s another that I know teaches at Guildhall and RW.

Students will thrive in the right environment. I don’t think this has much to do with the name over the door. We have all heard stories about students at the top unis that don’t succeed for whatever reason. I’m sure the same must be true for conservatoires.

Has anyone heard about scholarships yet from conservatoires. Not sure what to expect and when 😬

disorganisedmummy · 22/12/2024 08:43

@Merrymarx I've just checked and Ds got his scholarship offer through on 19th December last year so May well be any day now. His girlfriend was offered one the same day (different instrument).

disorganisedmummy · 22/12/2024 08:44

@annabelleee Have you had any details of offer days yet? They're usually in early January. Might be an idea to go to these first before making a firm decision.

Merrymarx · 22/12/2024 08:51

@disorganisedmummy which conservatoire was that? Waiting for GH

disorganisedmummy · 22/12/2024 08:52

@Merrymarx Trinity Laban.

Maryward · 22/12/2024 12:14

Hi dc got scholarship offer by email from rcm and scholarship offer from ram was on ucas.
Guildhall sent offer email and details of various scholarships you can apply for but not an actual offer of scholarship.

Baili · 22/12/2024 13:25

DS was offered scholarships at Guildhall and Trinity via email already. Sadly, didn’t get I’ve for RCM, and they are all out, I think. Sorry, it’s rather rainy news. I would love it if I’m wrong!

Merrymarx · 22/12/2024 15:51

Well done doesn’t sound like good news if gh scholarships have gone out by email already 🥲

Siriusmuggle · 10/01/2025 13:17

Did anyone go the the RNCM offer holders day? I'm just nosy as my kid was playing in it.

scoutsplaybrass · 12/01/2025 16:35

My son has been offered an RNCM entry award. Does anyone know when and how they receive the money? Is it in time to be able to be used to help pay accomodation costs in first year?

Mine got a scholarship in his first year, is that the same? From memory I got in a bit of a mess with it but their finance department helped. I think it defaults to a tuition fee loan reduction but you can override it to get full fee loan. The excess goes direct to RNCM who then pay it to the student. I think that’s right.

Thanks. Yes, think it's the same. The one that they only get in the first year.

Siriusmuggle · 12/01/2025 18:27

@scoutsplaybrass that’s the one. I’m pretty sure that you do it via sfe and it thinks your tuition fees are eg £3,000 but you can borrow £9,250 and sfe then send the extra £6,250 to RNCM. The finance guy is very patient and helpful.

scoutsplaybrass · 12/01/2025 18:49

@Siriusmuggle thanks. Good to know their finance department are helpful as I can see us needed to be helped through the process!

Siriusmuggle · 12/01/2025 18:58

It Seems to basically be one bloke. He’s great though.
Im guessing your child is a brass player? It’s a lovely department.

Where did this communication come (email? UCAS?) and when? Not sure that DC has had this for RNCM (not assuming everyone gets an award) but don’t think DC will know where to look on UCAS and I haven’t seen their dashboard! Thank you!

scoutsplaybrass · 13/01/2025 12:00

@Siriusmuggle yes, a brass player

@Mumoftheweek The award offer came via email direct from RNCM. No mention on UCAS as far as I know.

They'll have encountered my kid on the offer holders day then! He played in the concert bit and attended the workshop. Congratulations on the award.

With the deadline for a decision approaching how’s everyone getting on?

We’re not there yet so more research to do this week.

Still deciding…..I will be so relieved once it’s all done and dusted!

Alwaysplayspicc · 26/01/2025 16:47

Have your DCs been to offer holder days or had trial lessons?
I know that these made up DS’s mind, ultimately.

quite a few trials - most paid for and a few freebies. Most important element of the course for my DC.
