@JediKnightingale DS applied for Comp Sci too - Warwick, Bath, Southampton, York and Exeter.

Sent his application in on 11 Dec but we've only had two offers so far from York and Exeter. His preference is for Warwick or Southampton, getting a bit twitchy now as it's been a month!

JediKnightingale · 10/01/2024 20:28

@basilbrush It’s nail biting isnt it?! DS is fairly confident of a Southampton offer - he put his application in on 15/12 so still early doors really!

The other 3 we think are going to be long waits. Good luck to your DS - he has two amazing offers already!

TheOnlyMrsW · 10/01/2024 20:41

Congratulations 🎉

MirandaWest · 10/01/2024 21:38

That’s great news @lifeturnsonadime 😊

legosnowqueen · 10/01/2024 22:50

A new joiner to the thread...

Interesting to see the fast-moving developments - it now feels very real!

DS has 3 offers - Liverpool, Birmingham & Lancaster - for Business &Management - sadly got a rejection from KCL today & is waiting to hear from Durham. Durham was favourite based on open days...the 3 offers are all the same, although Lancaster will drop a grade in 2 subjects if he firms. But of the 3 he prefers Liverpool so there's no obvious insurance choice, despite him picking Lancaster as insurance when applying based on prospectus grades.

MrsFloof · 10/01/2024 22:56

Congratulations lifeturnsonadime

stoneysongs · 11/01/2024 07:50

Fantastic news @lifeturnsonadime

Another Oxford post interview rejectee here - DD has offers from Birmingham and Liverpool and is waiting for Warwick and UCL. Doesn't really want to go to Liverpool or London but as she said "would rather turn UCL down than get rejected again" 😂

Lots of accumulated stress came out last night and the Oxford rejection stings a bit but she thinks that while the course is great, she wasn't really suited to the uni (doesn't like reading much or pressure 🤦‍♀️) and will have a better time and the same chances in life if she goes to Birmingham or Warwick. Hopefully now she can relax and just concentrate on her last term at boring old school and start getting ready for her A levels 🤞

basilbrush · 11/01/2024 07:53

An offer for DS at Warwick for Comp Sci last night - a big relief!

He now has 3 offers (Warwick, York and Exeter) and submitted his UCAS on 11 Dec.

Still waiting for Southampton and Bath.

Warwick prob will be his first choice, and Exeter will prob be his insurance choice.

If I am totally honest, I found Warwick a bit sterile and soulless (although I know its academic reputation is excellent) but he liked the campus and he's the one going to uni....

Twickenham7 · 11/01/2024 08:00

@Jaxx your son's offers are great and well-deserved! I did post on the old thread, but new here, not sure how it all works or if you saw it. Fingers crossed for a Durham offer for him 🤞. @lifeturnsonadime so pleased the UCL offer came through for your son - congratulations!

Rollergirl11 · 11/01/2024 08:03

@basilbrush know what you mean about Warwick. When we were at the open day DD and I were struck by how quiet it was. It was busy with lots of people there but just seemed muted; like someone had turned the sound down. DD has an offer but it’s but one of her favourites.

O2HaveALittleHouse · 11/01/2024 08:48

We felt the same about Warwick and despite having an offer (standard of 3 A*) it’s not the first choice.
I can’t explain it as it is so like Exeter which was completely different in the feeling.
It has a fantastic maths faculty though - probably the best we’ve seen.

Lightsabre · 11/01/2024 09:07

Personally I preferred the feel of Bath to Warwick. Warwick seemed like an extension of the business park next door. However I have heard it's a great place to study, plenty of accommodation to go round (no small thing, looking at you Bath and Durham) and it has the fantastic Arts centre right in the middle. I guess the open days are on days when the university isn't open so you don't get the real impression of what it's like.

Lightsabre · 11/01/2024 09:09

Forgot to add ds is likely to put Warwick as his insurance if the place he is waiting for doesn't work out.

catmomof3 · 11/01/2024 09:51

Warwick will prob be DD's insurance if it's not good news from UCL. But tbh she's starting to prefer Kings more now especially when I showed her that accommodation scheme she is eligible to apply for and she really liked the English modules and loves the location of the actual campus because it's easy to walk to all her fave shops 🤦🏻‍♀️🤣

Dafrty · 11/01/2024 11:13

Oxford rejectee post interview here also. UCL English interview invite has come through which seems like good timing. Holding a Warwick offer but have not visited yet.

SeaofTranquility · 11/01/2024 11:30

lifeturnsonadime · 10/01/2024 18:10

Woohoo son's UCL history offer has come through, he's over the moon!

Fantastic - congratulations!

Umbilicate · 11/01/2024 11:32

Yay, can't name the course as so tiny and too outing but dc has the UCL offer they had pinned all their hopes on. Good luck everyone, it's a tough waiting game.

SeaofTranquility · 11/01/2024 11:34

Congratulations and well done to your DC's @Dafrty and @basilbrush for the interview invitation and offers. Lots of good luck x

mondaytosunday · 11/01/2024 11:42

Other than Cambridge we haven't been to visit any of the other three places DD applied to (Glasgow, Durham, Bath - only know the city). We had been to several when she was going to do animation (as far away as Falmouth), but the other open days just led to her rejecting them as options (not surprised at Bristol, thought she'd like Exeter but she didn't). She wouldn't even consider Warwick, and we live in London so she didn't want to apply to any here. We missed the proper open day at C so only went to see the colleges to decide on which one. So looks like more travelling to offer holder days!

Runoutofinkagain · 11/01/2024 11:52

@JediKnightingale , I was wondering if you knew if there was a Reddit spreadsheet for 2023 uni entry in existence? I have tried Googline but I am not familiar with Reddit so didn't get far. I am trying to work out what typical offers might be for a particular uni course as the uni website doesn't seem to have typical offer info

Jaxx · 11/01/2024 11:56

This hopefully is a copy of last years student room Durham offer tracker. The original was deleted but someone had it archived.

TheOnlyMrsW · 11/01/2024 12:07

@mondaytosunday we are in a similar position, we were booked into the Cardiff open day but Storm Babet put paid to that so we're going to the offer holder day next month as it will likely be DD's insurance as her lowest offer. Also haven't been to Leicester or Birmingham for open day as DD hadn't properly decided on a course until September so they were added at application point. Actually quite looking forward to it as apart from Cardiff I've never been to any of the others.................

Jaxx · 11/01/2024 12:09

Ignore above - thought this was Durham thread!

mondaytosunday · 11/01/2024 12:19

@TheOnlyMrsW any excuse to go to Bath I'm in! Though guess it doesn't warrant an overnight stay. I hear Durham is lovely and definitely an overnight stay there.
I know a couple kids at Cardiff who are enjoying it.
My daughter is away on work experience in Lisbon next month (!) so looks like Durham's offer holder day in March for us, and there's a slight issue of not actually having an offer yet from Bath...

DD and I went to the Cardiff open day during Storm Babet. Was an absolutely awful journey from London to there, but at least we got seats on the train to Bristol, unlike many poor sods who had to stand.
