@g1c2d3 , my dd is at Warwick, she rarely goes to Coventry, she visits the clubs in Leamington and is living there next year. She has had a great first year at Warwick and the accommodation costs are reasonable compared to other unis. There is an active Warwick uni parents Facebook group if you want more info.

g1c2d3 · 26/03/2024 16:40

@redrobin75, thank you for your reply. How does your DD find the travelling between the campus and Leamington, are the buses regular enough? What other places in the area do the students enjoy visiting for fun days out or activities if they don’t go to Coventry for these?

redrobin75 · 26/03/2024 17:37

@g1c2d3 , she is in the first year so goes to Leamington to the nightclubs or for a meal out. She is very busy on campus during the week with sports societies and socialising in the student union etc. The bus is £2 and seems frequent even in the early hours. She has only been to Coventry for shopping at Primark or the train station. There is a Tesco and Aldi on the edge of the campus too. She had an offer from Exeter for a different subject to your ds but rejected it because the course wasn't quite right and the distance from home but I'm sure she would have loved the access to Dartmoor and the beach too. Her first choice was Bath but she didn't get the grades on results day, a lot of her friends at Warwick were rejected by Oxbridge or missed a top choice on results day (plus many also had it as first choice for law, morse etc). It's tricky for you if course is running for first time at Exeter.

g1c2d3 · 26/03/2024 17:54

@redrobin75, thank you. I will pass this information to DS. It is so difficult to know in advance what will be the best choice. He preferred Leeds for a long time as he really liked the course there, Banking and Finance, and the city but after the offer holder days he has now focused on Warwick and Exeter. Both are great unis.

WarraK · 26/03/2024 18:41

I had a conversation two days ago with someone who graduated from Durham last year. They said that they absolutely didn't go out on Saturdays because that was a Town night. They said they felt safe the rest of the week but would feel unsafe on a Saturday.

OurspoonscamefromWoolworths · 26/03/2024 19:48

Finally got offers from Bath and Newcastle. DD probably firming Durham and wanted to insure Newcastle but not sure if the grades are too high for an insurance. She's reaching saturation point: not looking forward to offer holder days. She's in school for some sessions over Easter hoping to improve on her mock grades, which she really needs to do, but I am worried that she might be better off taking a proper break.

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 26/03/2024 22:24

Warwick’s campus is really nice now. There are lots of places to after first year. Leamington, the nicer parts of Cov. Watch Nativity - it’s filmed in Coventry.

What course at Bath, if you don't mind me asking?
Congrats to your dc!

OurspoonscamefromWoolworths · 27/03/2024 06:13

@mamaduckbone
The course is PPE with one year abroad.

DoctorMartin · 27/03/2024 08:29

Still waiting on Edinburgh and Bath for Economics.

mamaduckbone · 28/03/2024 14:13

It feels a bit like Bath are playing a massive game of chicken...waiting to see who wants it enough to hold out.

mondaytosunday · 28/03/2024 16:12

@mamaduckbone and lose good applicants in the process!

SendmetoWales · 28/03/2024 16:34

@DoctorMartin My son heard back really quickly for economics at Bath but we are now waiting for UCL and feel the same frustration.

Economicsundergraduate · 28/03/2024 16:46

Hello everyone,
my son has received offers for economics from Nottingham and Bristol, he is home student. Could you please help us decide, like which university has better job prospects etc.
thanks in advance

I know someone who has pulled out from Bath because of this.

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 28/03/2024 17:42

I know someone who has pulled out from Bath because of this.

Dd had already lost interest before her offer.

Wronginformation · 28/03/2024 19:19

Well dd1 did not get her Lse offer till end of Apr but keen enough to wait. We presumed it was for unis to see who was firming what, so as to know how many more places they could offer.
DD2 will be firming and insurance 2 different courses at Bath

mondaytosunday · 28/03/2024 20:34

But @Wronginformation they have to make the offer in the first place!
My DD is saying she's cooling on Bath the longer she has to wait. They've had her application since October. She has her grades. They've made some offers for the course. So what's the delay? It's not a hugely popular course with thousands of applications to sort through.

Wronginformation · 28/03/2024 21:06

Well I don't work in uni/lse so no idea.

But I seem to have read the initial sifting is done by "the admission team", rather than the individual departments so I suppose already causing some delays (and in my DDs case who applied for 2 courses at lse, I presume they were the ones determining which course was most "suitable" for her).
I presume they then want to see how many places are withdrawn by Oxbridge candidates firming Oxbridge (and I am guessing not all of them have "pressed the button" yet)
Those with similar applications as your DD are therefore having to wait? (DD said that many on her course had 4 A levels so standards are high).

For what it's worth, once DD got her Lse offer she withdrew from Edinburgh not having heard from them at all. Dc1 did not get offers from 2 other London unis till late March.

Wronginformation · 28/03/2024 21:07

Well I don't know why BATH are being so slow for your daughter 😂

mondaytosunday · 28/03/2024 23:44

@Wronginformation she's also applied to LSE, but not until January 30th so is giving them a little slack (even though they have made offers for her course too). Notoriously late Durham offered back in November so I guess we both figured having the grades might speed things up, but apparently not.

Wronginformation · 29/03/2024 06:33

While DD got an offer from Bath in November no grades in hand. Unpredictable....

TabMcTat · 29/03/2024 06:53

Those with University of Bath offers don’t know if accommodation is first apply, first allocated OR whether as long as you apply by deadline your chances of your first choice are the same as those that applied early?

Wronginformation · 29/03/2024 07:56

TabMcTat as far as I can see from their website, as long as you apply before a certain time.

DownWithThisKindOfThing · 29/03/2024 10:23

Offer 5/5 in for my boy today and it’s an unconditional for Edinburgh! So proud
