It says you have to select a zone and price band and they try to accommodate both.

stoneysongs · 15/03/2024 18:05

Slightly worried they might run out of the cheaper end rooms while DD waits for her last offer. Hopefully they never have to allocate £400+pw rooms to those wanting £200+pw rooms.

I jolly well hope not - that would be appalling.

I am shocked by some of the price increases. DS1 was in garden halls starting sept 2023 so two years ago and I choked at it being £305 a week for a small E suite (the only room type UCL could book then - now there are other GH options it seems). But in sept 2025 it is £385. Ludicrous increase.

The distance bands a bit big - closest band is up to 1.5 miles away which is quite a way.

One of the ways to get more certainty if it works otherwise is to choose an intercollegiate hall as that allows one to specify the hall, fyi

Oh that's good to know, thanks Revenge.

I just remembered that the student who showed us around at the offer holder day was disappointed to be allocated to Campbell House, which makes me think maybe the cheaper options are not the most popular.

Wronginformation · 15/03/2024 20:18

Revengeofthepangolins
Dc2 was at garden halls sept 21. Non ensuite £240, now £318.
I only looked as I was surprised Bath accommodation was around £220 and couldn't believe it was nearly as expensive as London. Till I realised prices in London had gone up a lot.
Dc2 rented something for 2 years and I initially thought that wasn't a good idea to be stuck with it for 2 years. I now am grateful as rent has been fixed for these 2 years.
Dreading August as the 2 years will be up and she has one more year to go....

My DS applied for his UCL accommodation last night but there was absolutely no mention of zones. All he was asked was max weekly budget, what type of room he wanted, whether he would share and also whether he wanted catered or not. There also wasn’t anywhere to tick that he would be taught at the Bloomsbury campus which seems odd, but I guess they would know that already.

Cantonet · 16/03/2024 11:11

Anyone else got the Bristol - I'm still considering your application ... message?
Ds still only has two responses for Psychology but no rejections yet.

DS did! For engineering. And the same from Bath.

CloudsandChimneys · 16/03/2024 14:16

Bit annoying that UCL accommodation is open already, although slightly reassuring that the cheaper options aren’t necessarily the most popular.

DD has applied for Computer Science, but the STAT test isn’t till mid April so it will be a while yet before she hears if she has an offer.

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 16/03/2024 16:30

All offers now in! Quite varied AAA* -ABC. Bath only responded recently.

MerchSwyddEfrog · 16/03/2024 17:46

Congratulations @Ritasueandbobtoo9 ! Has your yp firmed yet? We are still waiting for 1, UCL.

Lightsabre · 16/03/2024 21:11

Great to hear all of the new offers and now firming offers and accommodation. It feels very real. Ds still waiting for Imperial, yay or nay. Otherwise it will be firm Warwick, insure Bath.

Delphigirl · 16/03/2024 21:28

When do they have to firm by again? Still waiting on Edinburgh and Leeds yawn

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 16/03/2024 22:34

@MerchSwyddEfrog Not yet, but probably decide next week.

PumpkinKnitter · 17/03/2024 13:45

@Delphigirl I think it is mid June? DD finally got an Edinburgh offer through on Friday so hopefully lots of offers will be on their way soon. She will be firming Edinburgh but going to an offer holder day at Exeter next week to help her decide on insurance choice. Looking at Edinburgh accommodation is definitely making it feel real!

Oh great news for your DD I’m so pleased for her. My DDs firm is Exeter for her very niche course, but would like to know if Edinburgh is a possible insurance or if an offer is too high…

PumpkinKnitter · 17/03/2024 17:47

@Delphigirl DD's Edinburgh offer is AAB and Exeter is ABB, so works out neatly for firm and insurance. Hope it works out nicely the other way round for your DD.

Averywavery · 17/03/2024 17:54

Still waiting on St Andrews and Edinburgh here!

g1c2d3 · 17/03/2024 18:19

Still waiting on Leeds!

stoneysongs · 17/03/2024 18:53

Now into the 6th month of waiting for Warwick... 🫠

OurspoonscamefromWoolworths · 17/03/2024 19:21

Bath and Newcastle here. DD hoping for Newcastle as insurance but now starting to seriously consider her wild card that she only put in to fill the fifth place. Hope Newcastle hurry up so that I can avoid shelling out for an offer holder day that I am hoping to avoid.

mondaytosunday · 17/03/2024 19:34

Still waiting on Bath (five months here which is shocking). LSE too but that was last minute. Offer days to Durham this week Glasgow next and I've got this Damm awful cold now going into third week.

DS is still waiting for Durham! Is this the last offer holder day or are there more in April?

Jaxx · 17/03/2024 20:36

@Innisfree sorry you are still waiting. The last Durham offer holders day this year is the 27th April.

Delphigirl · 17/03/2024 23:45

What I don’t understand is why the likes of Leeds takes 5 months and counting to make an offer to a kid predicted a Astar Astar A for an AAB course which it offers spaces in clearing every single year without fail.
it knows and she knows it is going to make her an offer - why not just make it. I think it is trying to pretend that is is a super-competitive uni like Bath or Edinburgh and it just isn’t. Silly.
