Imperial offers

Hi all,

DS had an interview for Oxford to read Maths, but didn't get an offer. He's really disappointed today but I know he'll bounce back. He has an offer from Warwick, which he loved, but he also really liked Imperial, and he hasn't heard from them yet. Does anyone know when they usually make their offers for Maths?

Thank you.

Waiting on Economics, Finance and Data Science (EFDS) here....think it may be a long wait for any news.

Hi all,

DS had an offer from Imperial yesterday, which was lovely as it's his 18th birthday today. He's now not sure which one to go for out of Imperial and Warwick. Obviously Imperial has a better reputation, but he somewhat preferred the campus at Warwick, and he's slightly concerned about there being no arts students at Imperial.

We know lots of local people whose kids have gone to Warwick, but none that have gone to Imperial, so it's definitely more of an unknown quantity. Nice to have a choice though 🙂

Congratulations to him @mynameisnotmichaelcaine and hope he enjoys his birthday. Ds still hasn't heard but if he does get an offer, he'll be in the same position. He's booked in to the Warwick offer holder day in April.

poetryandwine · 05/03/2024 14:04

Congratulations to your DS, OP.

He can’t go wrong in that both choices are excellent. I hope he will investigate both thoroughly at Offer Holder Days, on The Student Room and in every other way he can think of. Then I hope he will choose the place where he feels happier.

UpsideLeft · 06/03/2024 16:50

DS got his offer yesterday from Imperial for maths which he's pleased about

Cx5 · 07/03/2024 07:48

Congratulations for those with offers, looks like they are finally coming in! We are still waiting, hopefully not too much longer now.

Lightsabre · 07/03/2024 13:40

Ds friend got an offer this morning for the course ds wants to do. They were interviewed the same week. Ds predicted grades are higher than his friend but I have a feeling his friend's address might be contextual. I hope Ds does get an offer, he'll be so disappointed if he doesn't get one.

My daughter is waiting to hear back from Imperial too for Maths. She didn't do the MAT test. Will that affect her chance of getting an offer? I know ther have been issues this year with the MAT test. She has been accepted to both Warwick and Durham - she didn't get an offer for Cambridge.
Out of interest, I
'd love to hear feedback on those who went to Warwick offer holders day. I think it would be my first choice uni...looks so amazing! My daughter has her heart set on Imperial but really wants the full uni experience - i think Warwick may be a better option.

I understand that in the early application category, the applicant must take the MAT test for the IC maths course. January applicant must take STEP for offer holder.

Cx5 · 14/03/2024 10:22

We are still waiting too, my DS did the Mat and was affected by the disruptions. As far as I'm aware your DD should be given the same consideration but it does feel like everyone with offers so far have done the mat and have a decent score.
At the Imperial open day the lecturer was talking about the gender ratio and really wanted more female applicants.

DS also has offers from Warwick, Durham and Edinburgh. We enjoyed the Warwick offer holder day, there was a maths lecture and then the parents had a Q&A session while the students had supervision sessions. I think Warwick will be DS firm (if he doesn't get imperial) with Durham as insurance, but we have yet to visit Edinburgh so that could change things.

UpsideLeft · 14/03/2024 19:09

DS who got his maths imperial offer did take the MAT. They were affected by the disruption but his score was still high enough.

I'm pretty sure they need to have taken the MAT or will be due to take the STEP to get an offer at IC

UpsideLeft · 14/03/2024 19:12

DS really liked Warwick and is going to an Imperial offer holders days soon

He's just going to get a train there with other friends who have offers.

UpsideLeft · 14/03/2024 19:24

Not all for maths btw

Cx5 · 18/03/2024 20:34

Ds was sent an email a while back, to save the date for this weeks offer holder day. Completely useless when he's still waiting for a decision. Lucky we went to the September open day.🙄

UpsideLeft · 20/03/2024 03:21

DS is going tomorrow

I'll update with his thoughts first anyone who can't make it re site and maths dept

If we're lucky maybe even some photos

Lightsabre · 20/03/2024 07:39

Thanks @UpsideLeft . Ds isn't waiting for maths but will be interesting to hear your Ds experience anyway. Wonder if there'll be further offer holder days for those who are offered later.

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 21/03/2024 14:53

DS went yesterday. He didn't like it as much as he likes Warwick because of its location. I think he'd prefer it if Imperial were somewhere else. It's so tough. I have no idea what he'll do - I guess we can only listen because it has to be his decision.

Its so difficult, my two visited Imperial in September, only one chose to apply. Unfortunately he didn't receive an offer so we're now we're in the awkward position of them both having Warwick at the top of their list but they don't want to go to the same uni 😬 hoping they will like Edinburgh or St.Andrews when we visit but they don't rank as high as Warwick. They also have Durham but that's only going to be a possible insurance.

DS liked Imperial. He liked the maths dept, the fact it's a campus situated where it is. He liked the look of the outside of the different Halls. He liked the Student union and the fact it's only £3.50 a pint. He seemed to like the vibe of it. He is seriously into his maths and liked the talk they gave which pretty much stated they'll all get really good internships, careers etc if they go there because there are so many links with top companies who will cherry pick them. They will get discounts on travel which is a relief to hear.

So yes he's decided to firm it and put Warwick as his insurance which he also really liked so he'll be happy if he ends up there.

Compared to Warwick he said that obviously Warwick has a lovely big campus but for his purposes Imperial has everything he needs just in less grounds but it is of course in the middle of London which I think he realised on the day made it more attractive than he realised

What's the entrance requirements of Warwick Maths? I thought it's same with IC.

My son felt the same way after his recent visit to Imperial (albeit for engineering) and will also firm it. They have so many clubs there as well (more than any other UK Uni) so the students who want to socialise will definitely find others with common interests.
