Imperial offers

Hi all,

DS had an interview for Oxford to read Maths, but didn't get an offer. He's really disappointed today but I know he'll bounce back. He has an offer from Warwick, which he loved, but he also really liked Imperial, and he hasn't heard from them yet. Does anyone know when they usually make their offers for Maths?

Thank you.

@Lightsabre as we said we would pay for DS's accommodation, I am hoping he gets Paddington rather than S Ken Grin

TBH I wasn't keen on North Acton as an area at all, but DS didn't seem bothered by there being literally nothing there except for blocks of flats/student accommodation, so 🤷‍♀️

I'm sure they'll all do just fine wherever they end up living, though.

And yes, very good to hear that Imperial student satisfaction is so high Smile

Good to know this. There are so many clubs and societies and the career prospects are good across the board so hopefully that will make for a positive experience.

The article I was reading got it a bit wrong as Warwick achieved the same score. Anyway here is the list

Not relevant to this thread, but LSE which used to sit at the bottom is now mid table. I wonder if the higher demands and greater academic focus appeals to the current generation of students.

Just seen that too in the Evening Standard @PandaPacer. I think Imperial will not struggle too much (as other universities are) to recruit international students because of its great reputation. It will be good for funding and opportunities.

Same story picked up by The Times. Not sure this will open as there is a paywall.

My DH is an academic, and he says the methodology for this particular survey is interesting to say the least! It did cause a stir in our family group chat though, as DH works at Cambridge, we met at Oxford, and DD is currently a student at Oxford 🤣

Yes. Several Russell Group universities have taken the decision to use the Shanghai rankings year on year to measure thrir place in the world. Including mine.

Needmoresleep · 08/06/2024 16:52

The Shanghai index also throws up some odd results, eg LSE some way below Nottingham, and the National University of Singapore nowhere near its ratings on other tables.

Everyone will have a unique set of priorities. Depending on what these are, some tables will provide a better proxy than others. Overall University rankings don't provide that much help when looking at Universities with strong specialisr departments. The Courtauld Institute of Art is one of the very best places in the world to study History of Art but won't feature on any table that prioritises science research.
