Is anyone starting the journey of drama school auditions and starting to feel the stress? Maybe sending them to drama group was a big mistake lol.

I would second the recommendation for NYT. Really great experience. I don't think @somewhereinsomerset was asking so much about summer courses as specifically about the BOVTS Foundation, however.

There's very little about it online, which makes me a bit suspicious. And for 6k you'd think they manage a reply to an email!

But I think the point being made is that despite being labelled a 'Foundation Course' it's actually a Summer Holiday Course which isn't comparable with, say, a Foundation Course at GSA/ Italia Conti/ ArtsEd which is accredited at CertHE level and eligible for Student Finance.

At the end of the day though there's a lot of smoke and mirrors in this industry and a lot of successful actors will be listed on Spotlight and in programmes as 'Trained at RADA' when what they actually did was a non-accredited Foundation or Summer Course course (friend of ours has done this, and says she has NEVER in 6 years of working been asked the nature of her training!).
Emma Corrin (Princess Di in The Crown) is always listed as having 'Trained at LAMDA) but what she actually did was a short summer Shakespeare course on the LAMDA school site for 3-4 weeks.

@somewhereinsomerset You're right about the American student thing too - I've seen several of these courses offer the US credits for them

Yes, that's true. It's not comparable in any way with full year Foundation at GSA or similar with funding and accreditation. All that said, a good friend of DS applied to RADA aged 17 and was offered the Foundation course, which is basically September to April. They absolutely loved it, feel they learned loads, almost wiped out the family savings to do it but have just got into BOVTS for degree. So I think they feel it is was money well spent.

Yes, it has to be a personal choice.
I think Foundation and Summer Courses can be useful if people aren't sure whether they want to go to drama school, or if they haven't had much acting experience, or just want to brush up their skills.
DS did the GSA Summer Conservatoire when he was 17 and thoroughly enjoyed it! He also met some people who kept popping up on the same uni course/ auditions etc in the future too.

The following year he got offered a place on the Foundation Course but decided not to take it up.

anyone else waiting on an Arts Ed reserve list decision? we’ve not heard back yet. DD’s heart is set on it but luckily we do have 2 other options thank god.

My DD sent in a late application self-tape to Arts Ed and we're still waiting to hear about that one.

Youarenotseriouspeople · 25/04/2024 19:59

Does anybody know how long Italia Conti outcomes take after recall audition? DD was there on Monday.

Biscuitsneeded · 25/04/2024 21:02

@Youarenotseriouspeople a friend was there for recall (for MT - traditional kind with dance) on Wednesday, and they were told 3-4 weeks.

Youarenotseriouspeople · 25/04/2024 21:05

@Biscuitsneeded - thank you yes DD was there for MT. Ok we'll have to sit tight!

71deedee · 27/04/2024 09:28

So the boy has accepted Emil Dale today, despite saying he was going to accept a foundation instead in Birmingham. Has anyone got any thoughts, experiences of Emil Dale! Not that he will listen though!

I think Emil Dale is a great choice - they are moving into fantastic new premises I would be really happy if my daughter went here. Their graduate results are also very good and getting better. This year they had double the applicants than last year so he has done brilliantly to get a place!
There are top up fees though so check that carefully
Congrats to him!!

Youarenotseriouspeople · 27/04/2024 10:52

@71deedee my DD has accepted EDA (although still awaiting Conti outcome and reserve for ArtsEd)
Easily her favourite audition - she came out saying she definitely wanted to go there. Their offer is very good (although top up fees) and the new premises look amazing. DD got a really good feel about the pastoral care so overall very happy.
Well done to your DS!!

Hi how long after audition did you have to wait to hear from EDA! My DC is still waiting to hear.

Okezza · 27/04/2024 12:13

Is anyone waiting for results from Royal central MT ? My daughter did her final round a few weeks ago and it’s her first choice school. Interested to know if any results given yet?

Hatethewaiting · 27/04/2024 12:23

Just wondering if anyone has been offered a place off the degree reserve list at Emil Dale !

NTSMjojo · 27/04/2024 12:23

@Okezza Yes, my DD is waiting on Royal Central CDT for a 3rd round recall. She hasn't been rejected on UCAS so still hopeful.

Youarenotseriouspeople · 27/04/2024 12:35

@SailorgirlUK she had the audition on a weds and the box popped through the post the following Monday.

Biscuitsneeded · 27/04/2024 14:20

Those waiting for news from Royal Central, my son was in this position last year. He had his final recall in early Feb and did not hear until well into May that he was on the reserve list. The longer it goes without UCAS updating, I would say the greater the chances your DC is still being considered. If you start to hear of others being offered places, however, I'd say it's possible your DC is on a reserve list. If that's the case, at some point Central will email and tell your DC that, and UCAS will then update to rejected. But I hope it's still the case that decisions are being made and your DC receive an offer!

DS has a friend in the same position, and I think her audition was last Autumn, so she's had a really long wait and still has no news. Another friend was initially put on the waiting list for 6th form but then got a box through the post a few weeks later, so there is movement. I don't know at what point it makes sense to stop waiting for a degree place and accept a different offer.

71deedee · 27/04/2024 14:42

Has she sorted accommodation? Or will she wait until she has heard from the others first? Are you going on 3rd July?

my daughter is on the reserve list too and not heard anything - she knows a few people who are reserve - doesn't seem to be much movement as yet (others may have heard differently!)

It looks like the last degree audition date was 13th April so assuming the deadline for deposits is mid May ..hopefully there might be some movement shortly after that

Youarenotseriouspeople · 27/04/2024 16:23

@71deedee we haven't sorted anything yet because still awaiting other outcomes. I have no idea about July 3rd - presumably that information is in an email she hasn't told me about 🙄
For those on Emil Dale reserve list I definitely know of one girl not taking her place so there will be movement....

It came last week, after he accepted his place on UCAS, not sure if that’s a coincidence or just timing

newsmummy · 27/04/2024 20:32

It took about 2 weeks from recall to offer .. they offered her a Foundation place which she’s accepted.

How exciting! Congratulations! My DD has accepted her BA offer at Emil Dale! Now just trying to work out how we organise accommodation!!
