@Headingto18 You experiencing a happy or disappointed hangover this morning??? Alas, ours is the latter. Duke received 28% more applicants this year.

Headingto18 · 15/12/2023 08:58

@MommaZenZone deferred to the main round by Yale; yes the numbers everywhere are crazy - guess this might be the end of test optional; is your DC feeling ok?

MommaZenZone · 15/12/2023 09:39

@Headingto18 DD is 'displaying' the usual pragmatism for now, but she'll be devastated if it's a no from Oxford and ALL the US colleges. Your's?

User11010866 · 15/12/2023 10:52

Trinity C announced that the admissions interviews had finished. -:)

May8806 · 16/12/2023 03:53

Does all interviews for C have finished? Worrying as my daughter has not heard anything yet. No rejection by email in UCAS or by email, no email for interview either. Reached out to school 10 days ago and was advised better to wait. CS at Robinsons …

RIPMatthewperry · 16/12/2023 04:30

@May8806 Has your DC had an interview? Or is waiting to be called for one?

If it is the former, they won’t hear until Jan 26th? (Might be 25th) which is C decision day (sorry I’m the parent of an O candidate)

If it is the latter, I think they should’ve received an invitation to one by now, but worth checking all spam boxes just in case.

RIPMatthewperry · 16/12/2023 04:40

@May8806 sorry, have read your post properly. I think I would ask your DC to check directly with the admissions team at Robinson or ask the School to do so. I do know the parent of another DC hoping to do CS at another college at C, and they did receive a rejection notice so it is possible that yours has slipped through the net. Do you know if your DC’s TMUA score met the criteria for Robinson? I’d start there. The TMUA might be good enough for another college but each college sets its own cut off score.

I hope you get it sorted.

May8806 · 16/12/2023 05:19

Thank you for replying at such an odd hour 😊.
Checked spam, checked deleted as well just in case, nothing. No official rejection either which is odd. TMUA was average at 5.4 but a strong PS and reference from school + 4 A* predicted + full marks at EPQ and an A in Greek language. All other students applying from his school have heard officially one way or the other. Will ask school to check with admissions while he is present on Monday. Thanks again

RIPMatthewperry · 16/12/2023 08:35

@May8806 I’d check the TMUA cut-off score at Robinson. The DC referred to in my post got a score of 6.4 but the mark required at the college they had applied to I think was was 7.0. Like your DC, they had 4A* predictions also. I’m not a parent of a CS candidate or C applicant either, so no expert, but from what I understand, the TMUA is applied a bit like the aptitude tests at o, except every college has a different requirement. What TMUA score could get you an interview at one college might not meet the requirements at another. I’d honestly start there. Someone may well be along shortly here who knows more and can help you.

Hope you get it sorted.

Revengeofthepangolins · 16/12/2023 08:52

I wouldn't rely on school. Why would they know? Much better to contact the college directly - am surprised you haven't done so before now tbh

May8806 · 16/12/2023 08:59

Thanks again for trying to clarify. There is no cut off score in TMUA pre interview. Students have had interviews with lower scores but equally have been rejected pre interview with higher. This 7.0 you are referring to is probably average score students got admitted with last year to the specific College.

RIPMatthewperry · 16/12/2023 09:05

@May8806 i had a Quick Look at the ‘whaytheyknow’ website for TMUA scores last year. You’ll probably know more about the process, but I think the issue is your DC’s score. I agree it is odd though that they haven’t heard one way or the other tho. Fingers crossed for you.

May8806 · 16/12/2023 09:10

This is a school where quite a few kids apply each year to both O and C. I reached out to them on the 4/12,since they have experience with the process, and was advised to wait. I will call admissions on Monday but really my question was if anyone else has not heard yet from C. Thanks

Pleasealexa · 16/12/2023 09:47

@May8806 every student who I know of, who applied to Cambridge has had the interview by now. Admittedly not a long list but it's students from different schools, applying for different colleges & different subjects.

Did your dc receive the MyCambridge application to complete? I would definitely call the college admissions on Monday to find out what has happened.

Revengeofthepangolins · 16/12/2023 09:49

But the 4th is ages ago

Revengeofthepangolins · 16/12/2023 09:58

The Cambridgrninterview timetable page says that invitations come in November

BiancaBlank · 16/12/2023 11:57

@May8806 that does all sound very odd, as surely they must have made up their mind about your DD one way or the other? On the whole I think a rejection is more likely, unfortunately, simply because if the college had her down to interview, they would have chased this up if she didn’t respond. Unless she mysteriously dropped off the list of candidates before they decided who to interview.

Sorry, I realise that’s all fruitless speculation but haven’t come across this before. Fingers crossed the college will be able to help next week!

stoneysongs · 16/12/2023 12:09

@May8806
Has your DD/DS (not sure which as you say daughter but then 'he' a couple of times) received anything else from Cambridge, or responses from other universities, or anything from UCAS to say they have received her/his application? Just thinking there may have been a glitch in submitting the form.

wjpa · 16/12/2023 12:28

May8806 · 16/12/2023 03:53

Email the admissions officer directly at Robinsons

Silkiefloof · 16/12/2023 12:28

I would definitely chase May as interview invites for Cambridge are sent out in November normally. I know of one interview last Thursday for a different subject but presume they were told about that a while back. My DD was Oxford but had quite a few messages - first was general acknowledgement, then college acknowledgement, then college we will interview and tell you when, then when, might be more - has he/she received any communication at all from Cambridge? DDs school knew she had an interview without her saying as they congratulated her on arrival.

mondaytosunday · 16/12/2023 12:45

Aren't all rejections also on UCAS? So if she was rejected @May8806 wouldn't she have been informed on there?
Did she definitely get the acknowledgment from Cambridge and the supplemental form to fill in? I think if you missed the deadline for returning that they will not proceed with the application.

May8806 · 16/12/2023 12:47

Thank you all for your replies. Yes UCAS is working, she has 2 offers so far, 3 pending (one is C). DD has received personal communication from the college and generic C but not for a while. I will call first thing Monday to solve the mistery. @BiancaBlank I agree we should be preparing for a rejection at this point.

stoneysongs · 16/12/2023 13:02

Hopefully it's just a single rejection email gone astray. Not that rejection is good news at all, but better that they meant to reject her but forgot than they meant to interview her but forgot, and now it's too late.

But fingers crossed for the most positive outcome of all, which is that they forgot to interview her and either make her an offer anyway, or organise an interview next week. I have a feeling that may be unlikely though. What an awful wait she must have had, while others heard about interviews and then had them, I feel for her.

ladsmum · 16/12/2023 13:29

@May8806 you must be beside yourself. Difficult to know what to do for the best sometimes when you’ve been advised to wait. Seems very strange but if she was rejected UCAS would reflect this (I think a lot of pre-interview rejections came first from UCAS before college email - lots of comments on TSR about how impersonal it felt). Unlikely that both systems could have emails gone astray. Fingers crossed you get some answers on Monday.

BiancaBlank · 16/12/2023 14:04

That’s a good point PPs have made about a rejection appearing on UCAS (didn’t think of that). So if it’s not showing up there, something must have gone awry between the admissions test and the decision re interviews. So maybe all is not lost.

Very stressful for you and DD. Really hope they can sort it.
