It can be incredibly intense. I'm glad that DS1 is coming to an end now as the hours he put in were insane.

Chemistry is notorious for long hours (labs, lectures, tutes and problem sheets). His 4th Year is more manageable but there have been times I've wondered if he'd have been better off (in terms of his overall well-being) at another university.

Getting in can often be the 'easiest' part of the process...

I was here this time last year with my DS. His UCAS status was updated about 9.20am. There will be a number or letter which corresponds to which college has made an offer. We had no idea which college he was allocated as it had a different letter to which we were expecting. Ten minutes later he had an email from St Hilda's saying he wasn't offered a place with them but with St Anne's instead. He then had a welcome email from St Anne's at 10.05am. Here are the codes:

2 - Christ Church
3 - Corpus Christi
4 - Exeter
6 - Harris Manchester (Mat)
7 - Hertford
9 - Open Application
A - Keble
B - Lady Margaret Hall
C - Lincoln
D - Magdalen
E - Mansfield
F - Merton
G - New College
H - Oriel
I - Pembroke
J - Queens
K - St Anne's
L - St Catherine's
M - St Edmund Hall
N - St Hilda's (W)
0 - Balliol
P - Permanent Private Halls
Q - Jesus
R - St Hugh's
S - St John's
T - St Peter's
U - Somerville
V - Brasenose
W - Trinity
X - University
Y - Wadham
Z - Worcester

Best of luck to everyone for O results tomorrow!

IThinkIMadeItWorse · 08/01/2024 16:04

Fingers crossed for everyone hearing from Oxford tomorrow. DS has had a survey email from C today, hopefully he will fill it in at some point.

SymmetricalSpinnaker · 08/01/2024 16:06

We always do a skiing trip over the Christmas holidays. Eldest (final year Oxford) has never missed one. He says it helps him reset and he works better after it. DC3 (Oxford med) seems quite zen about tomorrow. Has 2 mocks tomorrow too but hopes to know before the first exam starts and will let me know if there’s time! It will be their first offer or rejection. Medicine is painful.

catmomof3 · 08/01/2024 16:07

My DD has decided she will not check her email till she gets home from school tomorrow and has already told her friends to not ask her about it. So unless she doesn't cave we won't find out till around 2:30pm.

Good luck to everyone tomorrow!

RIPMatthewperry · 08/01/2024 16:07

Thanks @sparkles18 that’s really helpful. I shall pass it on.

WobblyLondoner · 08/01/2024 16:11

Impressed with those who can sit in their hands until a better moment to check. DS is very jittery and I know will check as soon as he gets the UCAS email.

According to him the UCAS system can crash as a result of the number of people checking - no idea if that's true.

Good luck all.

stoneysongs · 08/01/2024 16:15

It does quite often crash on results day in August but I don't know whether there are enough Oxford hopefuls to cause a problem tomorrow.

ShanghaiDiva · 08/01/2024 16:34

Good luck to all the Oxford hopefuls tomorrow!

RIPMatthewperry · 08/01/2024 16:34

My DC has used their school email address so I have no choice but to wait 😂

Panicmode1 · 08/01/2024 16:42

@astraq I think as others have said, it is very course dependent. DS has a full timetable in term time (engineering) with lectures every morning, and labs most afternoons, with supervisions later in the evenings sometimes. He did go on the Varsity ski trip, slept for a day or so when he got back, and then spent time every day doing the work that he was set in the holidays - including a coding project - plus he had 2 supervisions, even tho term had 'ended' officially. He's gone back already to prep for exams and labs (and do some rowing). He also self caters because he often isn't back in college in time for meals.....

He and his friends (maths, engineering and NatSci mainly) are very envious of the humanities students who seem to have far more time to party and do other fun stuff.....!

Good luck to all of the Oxford hopefuls tomorrow - and hope the Cambridge hopefuls (and their parents) have some nails left!!

LevelBy · 08/01/2024 16:54

My DS is now very nervous about tomorrow morning's outcome from O. He's been fine but it's now all he can think about

lullubell · 08/01/2024 16:55

Good luck to all Oxford hopefuls for tomorrow! My daughter has just told me she has 3 mocks tomorrow. I will definitely have no nerves left if she doesn't look until the end of the day!!

Ha, might you have been tempted otherwise?

DD logged into UCAS on my home PC a couple of times, and she saved the password, so in theory I could sneak in and have a look. I won't though, she would quite rightly be absolutely furious 😂

Goodgriefken · 08/01/2024 17:13

Not much to add here other than I'm very nervous 😬 Good luck to all Oxford people for tomorrow

YouOKHun · 08/01/2024 17:17

See above^. If someone else has already started thread 5 let me know and I’ll delete it…

MirandaWest · 08/01/2024 17:19

Thank you 😊

MirandaWest · 08/01/2024 17:20

Just spoken to (grumpy) Dd and swiftly found somewhere else in the house to be instead. The exam she had this afternoon was one she had already done so was grumpy about that and I’m sure also nervous about tomorrow….

MommaZenZone · 08/01/2024 17:58

Am officially moving towards getting totoally shitfaced tonight on famous grouse. 1 large glass down. DD waiting on O tomorrow. I figure there's absolutely no need to be sober for the result, either way.

Hmm alcohol is not a bad idea - we finished the Christmas wine and sherry last night but there may be some Baileys knocking about 🤔

RIPMatthewperry · 08/01/2024 18:20

Lol.I’m doing Dry January…..😩

stoneysongs · 08/01/2024 18:21
