DS said he should ask how to solve the question he failed earlier in the interview.

Regarding questions my daughter wanted to ask one of the tutors where she got her Oscar Wilde desk organiser from (she saw it in her office on open day) and I said don't you dare 🤣 Luckily she didn't thank god.

TBH I think for most interviewers this would be fine! Remember, they are actually human and some are even nice people.

Students will receive their MAT scores via email in January. This is sent to all applicants shortly after colleges have sent out offers.

The department will also release a brief report on the admissios process:
https://www.cs.ox.ac.uk/admissions/undergraduate/admissions_statistics/home.html

Sounds a lot more accountable than the English dept as they can’t feed back on ELAT because they didn’t use it because of the test question errors. Our DCs friend was told she could not get feedback of any kind until Feb. She doesn’t want to, she believes the school who say that hers was best UCAS in English and that it was just unlucky.

Dafrty · 06/12/2023 21:59

@Wolvesart Was that for English ie she didn’t get an interview despite school saying she had the best UCAS statement? It sounds a bit mismatched.

Yes, it’s unaccountable. She ticks every box

DS got back from C last night. He was happy with how his 2 interviews (STEM) went. All technical questions, no discussion about his PS. He got home to find an interview invite for Imperial - maybe they'll ask some PS questions!
Since getting back he is much more relaxed and unusually chatty! I think he found it a positive experience even if it's not good news in January.

ladsmum · 06/12/2023 22:57

@ShellfishCellar DS had a question for 1 of his interviewers but as they had announced that time was up he decided not to ask it. He is visually impaired so asked at both interviews if they had any questions about his disability - they did.
I imagine questions for the sake of questions might irritate rather than impress

Mirrormeback · 07/12/2023 00:43

Bugger.

I've had an email from Virgin saying they're doing essential works in my area for the whole day this Monday for DS first interview with O

Eek

PandaPacer · 07/12/2023 07:10

@ladsmum my DS was at his Imperial interview day yesterday and they did ask questions about his PS. He also did not get any at C earlier in the week - just the technical questions.

Rollergirl11 · 07/12/2023 07:53

DD has her in person interview this afternoon. We shall be aiming to be in Cambridge for around midday and have a nice leisurely lunch before she heads off to the college. Think I’ll try and do a bit of Xmas shopping while i wait.

mondaytosunday · 07/12/2023 07:56

@Rollergirl11 best of luck!

ShanghaiDiva · 07/12/2023 08:08

@Rollergirl11 good luck! Dd has her interviews this pm too.

MirandaWest · 07/12/2023 08:11

Good luck @Rollergirl11 and @ShanghaiDiva . FD has her second interview later on this morning. Am quite glad she’s doing it at school rather than at home

Silkiefloof · 07/12/2023 08:17

Good luck to @Rollergirl11 and @ShanghaiDiva and @MirandaWest Enjoy the shopping and lunch Rollergirl. DD has her second interview today, at school again, first was yesterday. That will be it unless a second college wants to interview as well.

It might be worth contacting the admissions office for the relevant college to give them the heads up.

There is normally some buffer time between interviews so if there are any minor issues just hang on in there for reconnection. If there are major problems then the interview can be rearranged.

Key thing is not to panic (but easier said than done!).

stoneysongs · 07/12/2023 08:19

Good luck @ShanghaiDiva and @Rollergirl11 - with the Christmas shopping also 🙂
I can report that it's a nice feeling when it's all over so hang in there 😅

stoneysongs · 07/12/2023 08:21

Ooh, best of luck to @MirandaWest and @Silkiefloof too.
Think I may avoid this thread for a bit as I want to stop wondering - will be back for offers day though 😬🤞

Rollergirl11 · 07/12/2023 08:24

Good luck to @ShanghaiDiva , @MirandaWest and @Silkiefloof!

Yes I think I’m about ready to forget about it all for a while and I know DD definitely is!

Sorry to hear that. I wasn’t sure if they were basically interviewing everyone for English due to the ELAT issue.

mummylife123 · 07/12/2023 08:26

DDs last one this morning. She's feeling good about it and ready to see the back of this (until 9th Jan.....). Hoping she doesn't get any more interviews at another college, would be agony!

Jaxx · 07/12/2023 08:27

Good luck @Rollergirl11 , @ShanghaiDiva, @MirandaWest and anyone else with interviews today!

My son has just set off for his in person interview this morning. He is going to be just under an hour early as train frequency has been cut from our station to one an hour due to the strikes. Shame it is cold and rainy - but never mind.

Lightsabre · 07/12/2023 08:27

Good luck to all those with interviews today and next week.

Ds will know by 11am on Monday whether he has been called for another college interview. If not then it's likely to be game over as his first interview wasn't great. He's already moved on but is also nervous about not getting an interview/offer from his other top choice, Imperial. So glad now that he put some achievable uni's in the mix. Some of his friends have only put very top uni's for competitive courses. I'm hoping they'll be lucky but this process is pretty brutal even for these very clever candidates.

DD’s first interview is today, second tomorrow and then she still has another Tuesday or Wednesday next week. It’s tough that it is so drawn out, I’m sure she would do much better with in person interviews carried out over a short period.

She also only got back from her interview day at Manchester at 11pm last night. Letting her sleep in now rather than go to school before the midday interview (we live very close to school so she would otherwise have gone in)

Hope all the others with interviews today go well. The tech does add another level of stress to the whole process…

Wolvesart · 07/12/2023 08:43

Dafrty · 07/12/2023 08:24

Sorry to hear that. I wasn’t sure if they were basically interviewing everyone for English due to the ELAT issue.

I thought it might work that way, but my DC says there are about 15 English applicants at his Sixth Form college and only about 1/2 got interviews. He’s Eng/Modern languages so part of a different group of about 5 with only 1 missing out.

RIPMatthewperry · 07/12/2023 08:44

Good luck to all the DC still to interview. @Lightsabre i think a lot on here have DC who feel one interview was a disaster and the other better? I hope your DS is ok. It is so stressful for them. We’re fingers crossed no recalls for another college, but also mindful that it is a possibility. Termly reports are out here. Such a lovely read and so much hard work has been put in, I’d love it to result in an offer as a reward but it is all in the lap of the Gods I think! 🍀🤞
