DD received an offer from Manchester tonight! All decisions in now so time to decide her firm and insurance.

Best of luck to all the DC still waiting to hear!

Mumofboys2006 · 18/03/2024 20:49

Brilliant news @MyRedDog 😊

losingtheplot999 · 19/03/2024 17:34

Congratulations to everyone on all the offers over the last week.

DS2 received his second offer today from UCL AAB which was a contextual offer.

Good luck to everyone still waiting.

Habbibu · 19/03/2024 22:54

@mumsneedwine you don't happen to know about dentistry as well, do you? Dd's best friend is waiting to find out from Belfast and Dundee and it's so hard. It's really tough because they did all their volunteering and studying together and now DD has four medical offers and her poor friend is still waiting.

Groundhogday2021 · 20/03/2024 09:27

Well done on all the offers this week! 🎉

mumsneedwine · 20/03/2024 12:11

@Habbibu no news is good news for dentists at the moment. Lots of rejections gone out. It's a sit and wait game I'm afraid.

Has anyone heard from Nottingham, I don't think i've seen any updates from them?

thillanddale42 · 20/03/2024 13:30

No Nottingham news here yet !

Ib1234567 · 20/03/2024 16:41

HI @mumsneedwine , we wanted to firm and insure but we have one univ that rejected (through email) but not UCAS , do we just permanently withdraw from it ?

mumsneedwine · 20/03/2024 18:01

@Ib1234567 yes, can do that.

Southampton offer here tonight! DD loved the campus and the course. Delighted.

Notcontent · 20/03/2024 23:15

My dd is a bit flat even though she should be happy. She has heard back from three and has two offers, and she was initially really happy, but because her school is very academic everyone seems to have multiple offers and so she is now feeling deflated. I know this is something she needs to work through.

thillanddale42 · 21/03/2024 05:35

@Notcontent - firstly massive well done to your DD - my DS is also at a very academic school (grammar) where parents can be quite pushy and helicopter their kids (you should see the yeargroup whatsapp even at year 13 🙄) - and sometimes they lose sight of what's real in the bigger world ie that they have done so well to get this far - anyway, I have always said to DS that he only needed one place to go and all the ones he chose, he liked so it didn't matter where he got. From my own background (legal) - some of the 'on paper' massive achievers didn't make the best lawyers - there are so many things that you can't 'teach' people - she needs to look forwards and value her own self and appreciate what she has to offer rather than compare herself. She'll look back one day and wonder what she was thinking won't she !!! ...... and of course, there are some kids out there who would probably make the loveliest hard working doctors who didn't get any offers - and after that brutal process it takes a lot to pick yourself up, brush off and crack on. Sigh......

mumsneedwine · 21/03/2024 06:42

@Notcontent you can only go to one Uni so one offer is amazing. She should be very proud of herself to get 2.
I really do hate competitive schools. Once at medical school they need to support each other, not compete. Tell her to congratulate others but know she will be the best doctor she can be. And this. It's very v v true. It's going to be tough. But fun !

Thanks for the wise words @thillanddale42 @mumsneedwine @MTistheDB

@Notcontent one of the most important mindsets to get into in med school ( I say this as a doctor, supervisor of trainees and a mum of a daughter in vet medicine year 4)is that you need to pass every module and move on. If you need 50% get 51%
medicine is full of girls who obsess about their marks and become unhappy and struggle as doctors with their own impossibility high standards. It’s the same degree result for everyone so it might be a good time to gently start those life lessons as it will stand her in good stead

Haffdonga · 21/03/2024 12:55

As my ds both often say:
'What do call the med student who graduates with the lowest marks in the year?'
Answer: a doctor

A level grades, ucas scores, numbers of offers from other unis all totally fade into insignificance from the first week of med school and the academic high flyers aren't always the most successful.

Barleypilaf · 21/03/2024 14:38

So, DD now has all offers in and is deciding between Exeter and Southampton. Any thoughts? She’s sceptical about PBL so leaning toward Southampton, but Exeter may be a nicer city to be a student.

mumsneedwine · 21/03/2024 15:57

@Barleypilaf at Exeter she'll spend 2 years in Truro. If that helps !

We’re trying to decide if that is a good or a bad thing!
