Apologies for butting in unannounced but has anyone heard anything from Cardiff yet?
DD is in the very fortunate position of holding 2 offers and therefore needs to make a decision but is still waiting to hear from Cardiff.

thillanddale42 · 07/03/2024 19:30

Have a very despondent DS here tonight - although he's had interviews and is waiting, he's got into a negative mindset. So hard to try to gee them up. Didn't help that he said he didn't know what he'd do if he doesn't get any offers 😳....i really wish they would change the system so there is a time limit for offers. Getting the kids to focus with no certainty when the grades needed are so high anyway is really hard. Just having a little vent here ! I know many are in the same position....

Notcontent · 07/03/2024 19:38

@thillanddale42 i really feel for your ds as it’s so hard waiting. My dd went through a very down period in jan and early feb when a few girls in her year already had med school offers, and while not deliberate, there was a bit of flexing going on…. fingers crossed for your ds.

MyRedDog · 07/03/2024 21:49

@thillanddale42 Wishing your DS the best of luck. He has worked so hard to get to this stage and it’s easy for him to lose sight of what he’s achieved so far. Hopefully not too long of a wait left!

thillanddale42 · 08/03/2024 21:26

Anyone here with DC applied to Bham ? DS convinced this pm
From TSR that B'ham are now offering waitlist and therefore all offers are out....I'm sure no one can be totally sure of how the system works. Last year offers seemed to trickle through for B'ham through the month and now seems quite early. Anyway, just wondering.....

DS2 said his friend received an offer from Birmingham yesterday.

thillanddale42 · 09/03/2024 07:11

Thanks - yes there seem to have been a few - a friend at school had his last week too. I suspect they will find out either way next 2 weeks for B'ham.

randomrandomium · 09/03/2024 08:36

My ds got an offer from Birmingham on Tuesday. He's had one rejection and is waiting to hear from two others so it was a very big relief when it came through as he had got very demoralised . The whole process is just so brutal.

mumsneedwine · 09/03/2024 15:34

Hang in there everyone. Many more offers still to come. It is brutal, but the hardest part is getting in. Then they really want to keep you 😊

Hello @thillanddale42 yes we had an offer from Bham last week. It’s his only one so far. He’s also had one rejection…so brutal the whole thing…

Do you think any more offers will come from Sheffield? The drip drip drip is rather frustrating!

TheGreenManalishiWithTheTwoProngedCrown · 09/03/2024 20:56

I'm surprised there's been no mention here about St George's merging with City University in August.

While it shouldn't have much immediate impact on things on the ground at St George's, mergers always cause some turbulence as different adminstrative processes (including timetabling, room bookings and exams) are combined or dismantled.

mumsneedwine · 10/03/2024 07:05

@Randomactofkindness Sheffield has a new head and things seem different this year. I can only gauge numbers via TSR, so not very accurate, but I think more offers to come as it seems a few each day, not the deluge of past years. But I'm guessing. We have no news from Sheffield and have had 4 interviewees there this year 🤷‍♀️.

St George's merging is hopefully not going to cause too much disruption as the campuses will both remain I believe. Down to money (or lack of) I assume. Feel for the staff.

@mumsneedwine thank you - hopefully they will all hear next week 🤞🏻

Groundhogday2021 · 10/03/2024 14:30

Happy Mother’s Day all! 💐

Hope to hear of more offers for your lovely and hard working dcs this week and next! 🤞🤞

Dd just had her final rejection. She's feeling very down.

She has been put on the reserve list for sheffield but no actual offers for medicine.

She does, fortunately, have offers for 2 other universities for a non medicine course. I think she may go down that route as she's saying she doesn't want to put herself through a 2nd round of applications.

Does anyone have experience of the reserve list system for sheffield?

This process is brutal.
She did well to get two interviews but it's so soul destroying.

I think end of March for Cardiff.

my DS withdrew from Cardiff so he could firm his place at Bangor so it’s nice to be away from the stress and waiting!

My DS was in the same boat last year - taken a year out, working and saving, reapplied and has been successful!

it might be worth another shot if that’s what she really wants to do

Barleypilaf · 11/03/2024 16:13

@rosesinmygarden Hugs to your DD. It is such a brutal process, but the reserve list may still work out.

I think Sheffield is one which quite often does work through the reserve list so I wouldn't give up hope yet.

Mumofboys2006 · 11/03/2024 16:55

Hi all, just catching up with all the news!

DS has been waitlisted for QMUL which is actually a better than expected outcome as it was honestly his most awkward interview…apparently they were impressed enough to waitlist him 🤷🏽‍♀️

Mumofboys2006 · 11/03/2024 16:57

Actually can someone explain what waitlisting means! I’m guessing depending on rejections, places may come up later in the year…

thillanddale42 · 11/03/2024 17:01

So sorry to hear disappointed dc's - it's just too hard. We have had tears this weekend and so much negativity- then DS got an offer from
b'ham med school this afternoon. The relief is unbelievable. But they still have to get their grades !!!! Particularly as we are away this week and was not wanting our friends who are staying to keep an eye to have to pick up the emotional
Rollercoaster !.....
No word yet from N'ham and M'chester but they only need one as we keep repeating

Sorry to hear this - it really is a brutal process 😔
They do say to look at medicine as a 2 year process but I’m not sure I could do it again……….
