Fantastic news @Barleypilaf @Groundhogday2021 and @W0tnow - well done to all your DC, they must be delighted 🥳
Might see you all there for offer holder day!

Notcontent · 28/02/2024 12:52

My dd has offers from QMUL and Exeter. She had a rejection from Newcastle today. It’s odd because she thought the Newcastle interview went particularly well compared to her other ones! Just shows how you can never tell.

speedyhedgehog · 28/02/2024 12:58

Well done on all the offers!

Sybill · 28/02/2024 12:59

@Notcontent congrats to your DD too on her offers and hope she’s not too disappointed with the news from Newcastle.
Fingers crossed for everyone else waiting and hope other unis start offering soon

Notcontent · 28/02/2024 13:08

Thanks @Sybill no, she is fine, as she was not set on Newcastle - she is just a bit puzzled because she didn’t think the others went as well. I guess there are so many unknowns in the equation.

Groundhogday2021 · 28/02/2024 13:23

It’s good that your dd has other offers @Notcontent and congrats on those! It’s hard to know what they are looking for and odd when interviews go so well, but sounds as if she has great offers 🥳
Thrilled for all of the offers today from Exeter! Well done to @Sybill @Barleypilaf and esp @W0tnow as it’s her dd’s favourite! 🎉

Randomactofkindness · 28/02/2024 13:35

Great news on all the offers especially for those who have got their favourite!

LaMereDuChat · 28/02/2024 14:52

Congrats @sybill's dd and all the other Exeter offers :) There can't be many unis left to announce, surely? One of dd's friends is waiting on Cardiff and another on Sheffield, but it seems like the majority have started offering?

Waferbiscuit · 28/02/2024 16:50

@LaMereDuChat there are lots of universities who haven't yet sent out offers. UCL, Brighton etc. This thread on TSR provides useful intel:

mumsneedwine · 28/02/2024 18:17

Well over half the Unis have not started offering yet. Some are still interviewing.

Well done @W0tnow! What a relief!

well done on all the Exeter offers!

@Notcontent I don’t think there’s much correlation between offers and how well our DCs think they did in their interviews …keep hearing this about SGUL a lot!

Notcontent · 01/03/2024 11:18

@Mumofboys2006 that is interesting you say that.

Based on anecdotal evidence and the subjective nature of interviews, I am starting to think that at the interview stage, it is a bit of a lottery.

I would say that there would be some candidates who are massively prepared and have a natural confidence and are therefore much more likely to be successful. Then there would be a proportion who are poorly prepare and who will not be successful because of that. But then a large proportion will be in that “middle” category, where there must be an element of luck - that is, how you present (too relaxed, too confident) and other factors are what the interviewer is looking for.

Africa2go · 01/03/2024 11:28

@Notcontent it also depends on the uni - I did some research into the % of interviewees offered places for last year and the numbers are astonishing really, I didn't realise there was such disparity - of the ones I looked at (and I didn't look at them all), from around 32% to 88%!!

Agree. DD is in the middle category and also got Exeter but not Newcastle. It seems for most applicants you need to maximise the number of interviews to have the best chance of getting a place, and just be happy to take any place. With theee interviews, each with a 50% chance of an offe, the chance of getting rejected from all three is just one in eight.

Interesting…we had four interviews and sincerely hope we don’t get rejected from all four!😳

SGUL was DS’ first interview which I hope means the others went better but who knows! We are very much in favour of a year off and some maturity and consideration. Both myself and DH did this even though not in the same field

Mumofboys2006 · 01/03/2024 13:04

Update: offer from Birmingham incoming!🎉🎉😀😀

W0tnow · 01/03/2024 13:06

@Mumofboys2006 Yay!I

I’ve been shamelessly stalking and am so, so thrilled! I know that HUGE sigh of relief!

Mumofboys2006 · 01/03/2024 13:09

Thanks so much! He really loved the uni and the medical school - just needs to get the A*AA they want. Hes been predicted it so just needs to focus on getting the grades now - but what a motivation!😊

Africa2go · 01/03/2024 13:12

Sybill · 01/03/2024 13:55

Brilliant news @Mumofboys2006 especially as it was one that he really liked. The focus this will give for revision now will be great! Very happy for him (and you!) 🥳

mumsneedwine · 01/03/2024 14:07
