Only others thing I’d add @SuperSue77 is that DD found a volunteering programme at one of the local hospices which was aimed at students in Y12 wanting to apply for medicine and it was a fantastic experience. She learnt so much from the HCAs and it gave her a valuable insight into palliative care. Worth a google of your local hospices nearer the time to see if they run similar.

Sybill · 21/02/2024 21:48

And congrats @W0tnow on your DD’s UEA offer - great news!

DD has just booked herself on 2 offer holder days to help her decide (still waiting on Exeter too) - never thought there’d be a choice!!

speedyhedgehog · 22/02/2024 09:54

Congratulations @wotnow's dd! Well done!

Notcontent · 22/02/2024 19:38

Super excited tonight as my dd got an offer from QMUL tonight!!! Still waiting for Exeter, UCL and Newcastle but it feels less important now. Phew….

well done to everyone on the offers. If you are still waiting, hang in there.

mumsneedwine · 22/02/2024 19:57

I'm going to keep saying it. You only need one 🥰. Congratulations on all the offers !!!

Weird for me. Encouraging students to apply and happy when they succeed. While my own DD strikes as being a doctor is rather poopy at the moment.

But I'm an optimist. It will get better. Can't watch Breathtaking though - my DD was an 'Emma'.

Oh, @mumsneedwine - I'm really sorry. That is weird and you have been unbelievably supportive. I haven't seen breathtaking - will go and Google

mumsneedwine · 22/02/2024 20:13

@Habbibu 🥰 only watch if didn't find covid tough. It's a hard watch.

I think medicine is an amazing career and I admire all our young people who want to do it. We need them. But boy do we need to treat them better.

PS. my 'Emma' is all good. Using strike days to come see her mummy 😊

Phew. DD has had a very tough few years but it is her drive to do medicine that has got her through. I'm really hoping it stays that way.

mumsneedwine · 22/02/2024 20:17

@Habbibu DD loves it (mostly). Hours are long. But work is 'amazing'.

But she absolutely gets to gripe about it. Thanks again for all your help on this thread, by the way. Much appreciated.

OwlMother · 22/02/2024 21:42

@mumsneedwine Emma made me really pause and think about the experience that Covid cohort had. Well done to your dd. "Breathtaking" is a really hard watch, but feels like essential viewing.

OwlMother · 22/02/2024 21:44

And well done to @Notcontent's Dd! She must be delighted. Fingers crossed for the rest.

Notcontent · 22/02/2024 21:50

Thanks @OwlMother She is delighted.

W0tnow · 23/02/2024 05:39

Great news @Notcontent mine is still waiting for QMUL and Exeter (her fave)

Habbibu · 23/02/2024 06:30

Well done @Notcontent's DD!

Mumofboys2006 · 23/02/2024 08:58

Hello can I ask has anyone here got DSs or is it all DDs?

I wonder whether myDS is just not coming across well in interviews because despite having four no offers to date. We practiced lots before anyone asks.

the online ones were particularly tricky - and QMUL tbh I don’t think went well - I heard some of the end of the interview and it was awkward.

on paper he’s great and bright and he’s desperately keen to be a doctor - despite my best efforts to put him off!

I just don’t think he’s coming across as super confident and he’s def not started any clubs as some of your DCs have.

i just want to show the other side of this process. We followed all the great advice here and tbh he did great at BMat so tbh I wish we had been more ambitious.

Randomactofkindness · 23/02/2024 09:59

@Mumofboys2006 have the Uni’s he applied to sent out offers yet?
My daughter had 4 interviews - she has 1 offer from UEA and she’s waiting to hear from the rest. HYMS started sending offers 2 days ago but she hasn’t heard.

Mumofboys2006 · 23/02/2024 09:59

Two of them have but not all of them…

Randomactofkindness · 23/02/2024 10:02

@Mumofboys2006 the wait is so hard for them 😔

Mumofboys2006 · 23/02/2024 10:04

Randomactofkindness · 23/02/2024 10:02

@Mumofboys2006 the wait is so hard for them 😔

It really is…he’s in the middle of his mocks so I’m trying to stay calm for him but honestly…this process is a lot!

Randomactofkindness · 23/02/2024 10:07

@Mumofboys2006 I just don’t understand why they can’t just send them all out at the same time - the waiting is cruel - I’m constantly checking TSR and also have her password for UCAS track………..

Mumofboys2006 · 23/02/2024 10:08

Yes I should probably do the latter…he’ll no doubt roll his eyes!

Mumofboys2006 · 23/02/2024 10:10

To make it worse all his peers applying for other subjects, including those who aren’t half as academically bright, have all got offers now …it just is incredibly annoying if I’m honest

Randomactofkindness · 23/02/2024 10:12

@Mumofboys2006 its tough when friends have offers - the not knowing is the worst.
