Congrats on all the offers over the last few days! What a relief to have them already in the bag! 🎉

@Mumofboys2006 I have a dd who has had 4 interviews (very high UCAT) and no offers yet and so I do empathise with you. One of her unis has been drip feeding offers out since January so it is really tough to sit and watch but we have to have faith in the process. Her other unis are still interviewing or have already stated offers by mid March at the earliest! Seems like the longest wait ever! Getting 4 out of 4 interviews is an incredible feat and you only need one to turn into an offer. Best of luck to your son. 🤞

Mumofboys2006 · 23/02/2024 10:18

Yes mainly other subjects - he’s got one friend who’s had an offer from SGUL. He’s at a London boys school. I do wonder what’s going on . Most of them applied to schools in the south or midlands.

speedyhedgehog · 23/02/2024 11:18

@mumofboys2006 I really sympathise. Its such a long wait. Dd obviously had her UCAS in in October, her brothers faffed about and submitted in mid and late January. One had all 5 offers within a few weeks, the other has 3 still waiting to hear from 2. Dd just got her first offer and I had been watching offers from that uni trickle out on tsr for a couple of weeks too. I was starting to fixate a bit that she wouldn't get an offer. She's the quietest of my three that have applied for medicine though she gets going faster than the second one if she has something to say! I really hope your ds gets an offer soon. My Ds was 2022 entry and had to wait ages for answers. It did get to him in the end, its such a tough process. But he's happy now! Hope for the same for your ds x

Notcontent · 23/02/2024 11:57

@Mumofboys2006 and @Groundhogday2021 hopefully you will hear soon but agree it is really hard. My dd is at a rather academic school and there is quite a large group of girls applying for medicine, many of whom already have multiple offers, so until yesterday my dd was feeling rather down about the whole process.

My dd is also really lacking in confidence and she is not naturally eloquent - so we always knew the interviews were going to be her biggest barrier.

Mumofboys2006 · 23/02/2024 12:00

Thanks @Notcontent - DS is at a grammar school so yes very academic but no not multiple offers. One very bright boy just got rejected by Cambridge

mumsneedwine · 23/02/2024 12:28

Keep hanging in there. Until you're rejected you are still in the game. And to be honest, sometimes after you've been rejected too (few Unis have come back and offered to previously rejected applicants).

It's a horrible process. Each Uni will have a v few people dealing with it all so it takes time. Also, getting the doctors together to work out who gets offers can take ages as they are busy doing doctor stuff.

No news is good news. Fingers tightly crossed 🤞

My DD is finding the wait horrible and seeing friends getting offers has been more challenging than she thought it would be. Weirdly she is one of only two people applying to medicine in her whole year at a private school (lots applying for Law and PPE instead!) so the wait is quite lonely. They really do make it hard to study medicine when doctors are so needed!

NoNotHimTheOtherOne · 23/02/2024 12:55

@Waferbiscuit "They really do make it hard to study medicine when doctors are so needed!"

Sadly, the only way to make the selection process easier is either to (a) reduce the number of people applying and reduce the number of places each can apply to, or (b) have all medical schools selecting on the same criteria, so the vast majority of people who want to be doctors have no chance at all of ever getting into medical school. We typically have to select about 10-20% of our applicants to make offers to, so it is bound to be a prolonged and complicated process.

NoNotHimTheOtherOne · 23/02/2024 13:03

@Randomactofkindness "I just don’t understand why they can’t just send them all out at the same time"

Usually, this is because they start making offers while they are still interviewing, so they can only offer to candidates whose scores are so high that they are bound to be above the final threshold whatever happens in the remaining interviews. The rate of offer-making will increase when they come close to completing their interviews and can be pretty certain what the final threshold will be.

Some medical schools, on the other hand, will make some offers in the hope that some applicants will firm or decline them and give them a better idea of how many offers they need to make. I'm not sure why they do this, as most students will wait until they have all their decisions before deciding where to firm, and the medical schools making the offers have no idea where else the applicants have applied or what the status of their application is with those other institutions.

losingtheplot999 · 23/02/2024 13:29

Congratulations on all the offers over the last few days. @Mumofboys2006 my DS2 has had 4 interviews and 1 offer so far. I think the rest don't offer till March. It is a very long process and some of his friends still haven't received interviews.

Mumofboys2006 · 23/02/2024 17:50

Sorry correction two boys have had Cambridge offers but nothing else so far other than one boy with SGul offer.

Notcontent · 23/02/2024 18:26

@Mumofboys2006 i think the people who have offers at my dd’s school have them from Scottish unis and Cambridge (which seems to do them very early). Someone also has an early offer from kings. But March seems to be the time most are out.

Haffdonga · 23/02/2024 18:37

I've just looked back at when my 2 dss got their offers in previous years- ALL in March, except for a late surprise at the end of April.
The wait is horrible but it's really early days yet!

Sybill · 23/02/2024 18:59

Congratulations to your DD @Notcontent , she must be so happy!

Really sympathise with those still waiting, especially if the unis are one of those trickling out offers. I think the not-knowing -when is the hardest bit as it can be such a distraction at the back of these young people’s minds.

However, we came into the process assuming mid to late March (given previous years and what unis have told us throughout the process) so it is still relatively early. And my friends DD got her single offer last year halfway thru her A levels in May, which was really tough. Very grateful not to be in that position and I really hope no one here is waiting that long. 🤞for some good news for all in the next few weeks

Mumofboys2006 · 24/02/2024 09:13

Hi all, having just logged into DS’ UCAS portal I can see that all unis are awaiting decision other than SGUL which still is under invited for interview. Not moved to awaiting decision. Should we query this with someone?

mumsneedwine · 24/02/2024 10:32

@Mumofboys2006 don't worry about it. Unis can take weeks to update ucas. If he's had his interview it's just a sit and wait game now.
I know it's hard. But it's better this year than last (not much consolation I know). Last year offers weee still coming through in June - in the muddle of exams. They should hopefully mostly be done by April this year 🤞
