I have interviewed a lot online and my DD had one with Glasgow
my main suggestion is turn off every other device in your home that might be on the Wi-Fi and also get them to do a practice zoom with you on a different laptop so you can advise on eye contact communication etc
having done MMI interviews too I found it OK - actually the questions were easier for the candidates. I did not feel we missed anyone we might have marked highly in MMI for doing it online. The students are pretty used to online, it was the interviewers who found it strange being so much older! We had the odd connection problem but we’re told to report back if needed and could reschedule if more than a couple of minutes.
the candidates who did badly were ones who had not practiced and did not have good structure for their answers/listen to what is being asked. Much the same as MMI
on another note I see Liverpool has sent first batch of invites for 22- 26 Jan. Looks like that is down to about 2800 UCAT. DD has 2750 and mocks that week so hopefully will get 2nd batch invite
anyone else waiting?
she is desperate for an offer
from Liverpool which is our local one so she can make a choice later on between that and Glasgow. But interview offer rate so low whereas Glasgow is pretty high over 40%
also looks like she has a really early offer - Scottish ones seem v fast and no one else in her school has one so don’t worry about early offers - seem to be just a few and all Scottish so far

Oh wow @Habbibu ! Congratulations! Must be such a relief to be able to relax and enjoy Christmas.

My DC's interviews are with Bangor and Cardiff in January so a while to wait yet.

Name changed for this thread - been following and lost you all for a while!

Hi MMI madness

Hope your son's interview at Bangor went well. My daughter is unsure how it went, but said they were all really nice and loves the course structure so would love to get an offer, I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Do you know how many were interviewed? Just trying to get a feel for interview to offer ratio and it's really difficult being the first year.

Sybill · 12/01/2024 12:24

Thanks for the online interview tips @ipredictariot5 and @Haffdonga ! DD’s last interview is in 2 weeks and is online. Her other interviews were in-person so I think she’s a bit nervous about the tech aspect of it (and just that it’s different!) so these tips are really helpful. Mocks finish the same week as her interview so looking forward to February in this house!!

Mumofboys2006 · 12/01/2024 12:53

Thanks @Haffdonga and @ipredictariot5 for the tips! I completely missed them as I’ve been so busy with work! I think a practice would have been useful as I peeked in today and saw that DS hadn’t shaved (!) although he insisted they wouldn’t be able to see as his camera isn’t very good!
He’s so used to zoom now I don’t bother interfering!
BSMS was tougher than SGUL according to DS. I won’t give anything away but there was a term he’d not heard of before although he knew what it was so my tip would be read up on medical terminology!
so hard!
Weve still got Birmingham and Barts (QMUL) to go so hoping this all builds up to a better experience with those which are thankfully face to face!

LaMereDuChat · 12/01/2024 16:16

@ipredictariot5 we are waiting on Liverpool batch 2 as dd has 2720. Lowest offer so far I could see on TSR is 2790. We're also waiting on Aston as they're starting to offer in her point band. However, I think her 1 x low predicted grade (A*AC) might scupper that chance, so Liverpool's the only hope for this year. Best of luck to all those with interviews and congratulations on all the offers since I last checked in here!

I thought Aston didn't score predicted A-Level grades (https://www.aston.ac.uk/hls/aston-medical-school/advice-zone/faq, How we score applications, point 5).

DC seemed to think the interview went OK but is keen to forget about it and move on until they find out the result! Feels the same about the course structure as your DD - it would be lovely if they both end up there!

Apparently there are 60 places for the first year with (much lower than anticipated) around 300 applicants I believe. DC said that was what they said in the presentation before the interview.

Oh thank god - I misread it originally; predicted grades are only considered for undergrads, not A-level students. Well, that makes me a bit more hopeful - thanks!!

MumsrulesOk · 13/01/2024 18:22

Three interviews before Christmas, Fourth was on Tuesday and DD received her first offer Thursday evening (Glasgow RUK) PHEW one very relived DD, patiently waiting to hear back from other three.

OwlMother · 13/01/2024 22:57

That's brilliant news, @MumsrulesOk !! Your dd must be delighted!

speedyhedgehog · 15/01/2024 10:09

Congratulations to @mumrulesok dd! You must be so happy and relived to have one in the bag.

OwlMother · 15/01/2024 13:08

If anyone is waiting for Aberdeen, they just posted on TSR to say that the majority of candidates should hear by the end of the month.

Tripadvice · 15/01/2024 13:55

Anyone still waiting on SGUL

Sybill · 15/01/2024 14:52

Brilliant news @MumsrulesOk ! I can only imagine how happy and relieved your DD must feel to have an offer already. Fingers crossed for her other options too!

I really hope everyone’s DC gets at least one offer 🤞

Anyone still waiting on SGUL

For result of IV? Yes. They emailed to say we would hear by end Feb.

losingtheplot999 · 15/01/2024 16:52

DS2 has had interviews at KCL, Cambridge and Leicester. Has interview at UCL next week the same day he finds out about Cambridge offers. KCL was his first interview and he didn't think it went that well it was online. The other two were in person and he thought he did better in those.

Haleofalife · 15/01/2024 17:10

Another interview checked off for DD today with Plymouth done - I think by end of feb results come out so soonish!!

I wanted to ask again if anyone has heard from Bristol with under 3000/above 2900

Mumofboys2006 · 15/01/2024 21:36

@losingtheplot999 DS said the same about his online BSMS interview- really hard to engage with interviewers online. He said SGUL went much better.
We’ve got Bham on Friday in person 🤞🏼

Dd got turned down from Exeter weeks ago. She was gutted because it was her first choice.
However, yesterday she received an email from them saying they’d reviewed her application and has now changed her status as they overlooked her extenuating circumstances.
Now in limbo again and waiting…..

weasle · 18/01/2024 20:49

Interviews all done here for DS. All on line. Interesting some places are doing F2F I thought all were still on line.
Now the wait!

OwlMother · 18/01/2024 22:24

That's brilliant news @Tripadvice ! What a rollercoaster.

Well done @ipredictariot5 dd, that's brilliant. So good to see the good news keeps coming. Hopefully there's enough to go around for everyone.

Notcontent · 19/01/2024 14:55

My dd finally got her UCL invitation so that was a relief. All interviews will be done by end of the month, which will be good as she is struggling to focus on her revision while this is going on!

I was speaking to a friend yesterday whose dd is applying for something completely different, with no interviews, and her year 13 experience seems so different. No stress, doing a paid job instead of volunteering etc.
