Oxbridge 2024 Entry Part 3

New thread as Part 2 about to fill.

OP posts:

My DC also waiting for any offer at all. Her course is small at all unis, plus two that she has applied to are notoriously slow and then Cambridge. So, nerve wracking though this is I think it is normal in the circs. She is incredibly disciplined and only checks one a day. I'd be on there constantly!

Rollergirl11 · 07/11/2023 18:08

@ThirdTimeBuyer at the C college DD has applied to they state that invitations for interview go out before rejections so fingers crossed it’s good news for your DD.

mondaytosunday · 07/11/2023 18:19

@FebuarySmith and @ThirdTimeBuyer same position here. Grades in hand well above requirements at a couple courses (3 X A stars and one course is ABB, the other AAB) but have heard nothing.
My DD says she has notifications on for emails but she's missed a few important ones in the past - I'd be checking constantly but she doesn't seem to feel the need...
Had dispiriting chat today with a friend whose DD applied grades in hand (A star AA) above all her courses and didn't get an offer! She went through clearing in the end.,. It was Psychology though.

ThirdTimeBuyer · 07/11/2023 18:34

@Rollergirl11 - thanks. From what I can see the C college she applied to is notoriously late in responses. Asked her to check the email from them again and no indication of when offers/rejections will be sent.
@mondaytosunday - this is my fear ! I have stared to prep for this mentally in my head so I can try and be as positive and encouraging as possible. It just breaks my that I can slowly start to see the confidence leave despite all the posts saying every place she has applied is famous for making late offers.
Oh well, to-day is just another few white hairs to add to the rapidly expanding collection !

nobodylistening · 07/11/2023 19:15

Hi, not read the whole thread, but do try not to worry about lack of uni responses or Oxbridge interview invites. It's only early Nov! Cambridge will interview the vast majority (something like 75%). With Oxford, it's a bit less, but it's still early. I think DC heard at the end of Nov and had about 2 weeks notice? Every subject is different and every college does things to its own schedule, so don't worry.

BackToWhereItAllBegan · 07/11/2023 19:17

@FebuarySmith DS was in the same position last year, applied with grades in hand, all well above the minimum requirements but didn't hear from any of them before he got his Oxford offer!
He did get all 5 offers in the end but it made for an incredibly stressful Christmas so I'll keep my fingers crossed that you hear back sooner than that.

FebuarySmith · 07/11/2023 20:13

@BackToWhereItAllBegan Thanks for telling me that, I know it’s unlikely she’ll hear early but it’s relief to hear simply that that’s how others experienced it too.

HewasH2O · 07/11/2023 21:27

Dd heard on Friday 29th Nov that she had to be there for interview on Sunday 8 Dec. Even less notice is required for online interviews as they don't need to make travel plans.

According to the Student Room there are a trickle of interview invites coming through on the sub Reddit forum. I don't use Reddit but some of you may want to have a look.

My DDs Cambridge college emailed saying interview invites will go out after Nov 13 to Dec 1 or thereabouts. Probably different for each college though.

DSandDD · 08/11/2023 13:16

For the DC who have uploaded written work to Oxford - was a notification/confirmation of successful upload received?

WombatChocolate · 08/11/2023 14:58

Yes. Immediately a one line message appeared saying thank you for submitting work.

Thank you @WombatChocolate DS now has the email, there was a delay, so ofcourse he submitted twice!

Oh dear - Cambridge interview spreadsheet on TSR has been taken over by trolls. While some of the entries are making me chuckle it rather defeats the usefulness of it.

mondaytosunday · 08/11/2023 19:02

@ladsmum who are these people that have the time (and will) to do this? So annoying. I looked at it on my phone earlier and was thinking are there actually people going five plus A levels?

Jaxx · 08/11/2023 19:19

I did read that there is a girl planning to take 28 A levels and took 34 GCSE’s.

Best of luck to her and clearly she is amazingly clever, but surely there must be something more productive she could be doing than collecting certificates.

Lightsabre · 08/11/2023 19:56

There was a 'what do they know' document (think it was for one of the maths subjects) that asked for predicted and achieved grades. I was amazed to see a few 5 A star candidates on there and some of those didn't get offers.

Also saw the story about the girl taking 20+. A levels. She has 33 GCSE's almost all at grade 9. She's obviously very academically gifted.

DS has an interview invitation from Pembroke! It was sitting in his email
from 3.17 and he’s only just spotted it 10 minutes ago! Not til 13th Dec so a lot more time to prepare (panic) than we were expecting.

Huge congratulations! Fab news and plenty of time to prep. Fingers crossed it goes well.

To be honest not sure of the usefulness of it anyway. If you haven’t heard yet really hard to know whether good or bad and seeing info from others doesn’t help. Everyone will find out in due course and no point worrying about others.

Great stuff. Is that Oxford or Cambridge Pembroke? Both excellent of course :)

Harumff · 09/11/2023 06:42

Oh yes I forgot there’s a Pembroke at both - it’s Cambridge.
