Fingers crossed for your DD too! - yes Lancaster interview was a surprise too- no mention of it in the information he received (didn't go to the open day as wasn't on his radar back then). Hopefully the Uni's will offer alternatives- they must surely be aware there'll be clashes...
Congrats to all those with interviews!

Silkiefloof · 23/11/2023 00:12

Well DD came in very late after work, said love you to the cat and has gone to sleep so who knows. 😂Though don't think E&M are out yet. Wouldn't be surprised if she's not checked either.

Mirrormeback · 23/11/2023 01:54

This is very exciting that the interviews are trickling through finally @PandaPacer and @zen1 good luck and everyone else from earlier

No one in maths has heard back yet from O but one of DS friends has an interview at Trinity (C) for aeronautical something or other. Engineering?!? he didn't realise when he applied it was one of the most popular and most difficult colleges to get into.

My DS specific combination isn't offered at C just O so that's not great as there is no spread.

Ragdollcharlie · 22/11/2023 23:29

Well done on all the interviews! It's depressing that some state schools are still not encouraging their bright students to apply. My DS had the same, one teacher said he wasn't 'right' for Cambridge. He's not had any interview prep from his school, bar a mock interview which was about his hobbies and interests, so no help for a Cambridge interview!

@Panicmode1 Physics interviews are the same as engineering , no small talk at all in my DD's, the most was one question about her EPQ in her third interview, otherwise they were all "hello now solve this sum".

I think DS was thrown a bit because he'd had an Imperial interview just before his Cambridge one, and really enjoyed it because it was 'challenging but chatty'. His Cambridge ones were definitely only the former!

Silkiefloof · 22/11/2023 18:29

Addgif It was a long time ago so I can't remember exactly but it was a really long either one or two pages of A4 handwritten letter from the admissions tutor and the Head read it out to me and said himself that it was just telling him how awful him and his school were but he was so happy as he never had a handwritten letter from Cambridge and I think he said he was going to put it on display in his room. 🤔It said something like Silkie is an excellent candidate and you are lucky to have someone like Silkie at your school but you clearly aren't looking after Silkie properly. Staff at your school have discouraged Silkie from applying when she is exactly what we want and this is awful of your teachers and as Head you are responsible and failing pupils. As you clearly are incapable of looking after Silkie properly I will continue to write to her until she starts here. And he sent me several handwritten letters afterwards to check everything was OK. It was lovely after a school that really had not cared.

Not sure if E&M are out yet. DD is not back until 10.30pm. Think they may not be out still.

I am so impressed by Cambridge and how much time and effort they invested in you. You are clearly worth it!. The head sounded a bit odd though!

goodbyestranger · 23/11/2023 09:20

Our HT was sent individual letters (letters as opposed to emails, albeit typed) about two of my DSs and a tutor who had interviewed another DS made contact with the Head of Science at the school. It may not be that unusual. The HT gave me the letters to read/ keep which I took to be merely a strong encouragement for him to send more students to Oxford for interview at the particular college for that subject, although they were relatively flattering about my DSs without going overboard (the letter wouldn't have made sense without saying the college quite liked the DSs in question).

goodbyestranger · 23/11/2023 09:21

Neither letter said theirs was a shit school. It was definitely a please send more students like this type of letter.

Jaxx · 23/11/2023 09:27

Good luck for anyone else’s dc sitting the HAA this morning.

My son is as prepared as he can be and has had examples and feedback from the heads of history at his school and the independent school that are also supporting him. He is very lucky as they have both been very generous with their time.

Still waiting for an actual interview date though but he has been well prepared for this as well. He has had four mock interviews with another one booked in! If he doesn’t get in, it won’t be through lack of preparation - he really is giving this his best shot. What’s for him won’t go past him. He is looking forward to just having A levels to worry about!

Silkiefloof · 23/11/2023 09:53

Thanks AddGif I was lucky they were so caring as the school wasn't at all. I got a series of handwritten letters to me at home as well. That letter was criticising the school, I saw it and the Head said himself it was criticising him and he saw it. I don't remember the entire contents but it certainly wasn't a letter I would have been proud of if I was Head but it was the handwritten that seemed to impress him. They are still very caring to this day and I hope my DD gets that incase I die of the cancer though currently clear. Though I was also very lucky to have such a lovely response.

TenSheds · 23/11/2023 12:41

DD just received an invite to interview from her preferred college for Classics and MFL.
😀I know interview rates are quite high for these subjects but it still feels like a hurdle cleared. Invites weren't expected till next week, and though she got good feedback from her mock interview yesterday, I'm glad she's got a little more focussed prep time.

lullubell · 23/11/2023 12:48

@TenSheds massive well done! My DD is waiting on MFL too. Still a brilliant achievement to get an interview!

MirandaWest · 23/11/2023 13:16

Well done to your DD @TenSheds 😊 think that’s the first interview including MFL I’ve seen (DD has applied for history and MFL and so is still waiting to find out).

My dd is also waiting on history and MFL.
she can take part in an interview workshop as she was on UNIQ and has to book on by 27th and can only book if has an interview so I’m presuming she will hear either way shortly.
Good Luck!

MirandaWest · 23/11/2023 14:16

Hopefully it will come soon! I have seen a different subject where the deadline for the interview workshop had passed and the student hadn’t heard whether they had an interview or not - unsure what happened with them.

Norma27 · 23/11/2023 14:19

Oh no that’s not good.
Hopefully they got it sorted.

catmomof3 · 23/11/2023 14:46

@Norma27 Not sure if the RIW is anything to do with UNIQ as my DD's friend got an invite and she didn't do UNIQ 🤷🏻‍♀️

MirandaWest · 23/11/2023 14:47

I think RIW can be for various reasons including UNIQ.

catmomof3 · 23/11/2023 15:05

MirandaWest · 23/11/2023 14:47

Yeah clearly a lot of factors as to who gets a RIW invite. My DD got one and she did uniq but also is contextual, and her friend got one who didn't do uniq but is contextual. No idea what Oxford base it on.

RockaLock · 23/11/2023 16:10

DS has just received an interview invite for NatSci.

He's over the moon, as he thought his NSAA went really badly!

Rollergirl11 · 23/11/2023 16:32

Congratulations on all the interview invites!! Feels like lots are hearing now.

DD had her Cambridge English assessment yesterday and I think she’s quite happy with how it went. She also had her mock interview at one of the local independent schools. The lady interviewing her is an English teacher and studied at Oxford. She told DD that she had done really well and that she thinks she stands a good chance. DD said she probably says that to everyone. Honestly this girl doesn’t know how to take good feedback!
So now just waiting for the real thing in 2 weeks time.

dd thought the same and received her interview invitation today too!

MirandaWest · 23/11/2023 16:45

DD had an interview invitation this afternoon 😃 History and Spanish at Oxford. She’s been given date and time for the History part and will get told the Spanish part within the next few days. Much happiness here 😊

Silkiefloof · 23/11/2023 16:54

Congrats on the interview invites. DD hasn't said anything and I haven't asked though no-one mentioning E&M interviews yet either. Must be close though as there's 2 days of PPE interviews then E&M interviews. And some PPE seemed to come out yesterday. Though I thought rejections were same time but wondering now. Glad interview went well for your DD Rollergirl

IThinkIMadeItWorse · 23/11/2023 16:58

Congrats to all those hearing about interviews. Especially at Oxford it is an achievement just to get an interview. Hope those waiting hear soon.

DS had a mock interview at a local private school this afternoon which he says went well and I'm now worried he is feeling a bit over confident - can't win!
