@catmomof3 DD did the interview workshop in person and it was incredibly helpful. I imagine so many more can take advantage now it's online. Did she do UNIQ? DD's only other interview practice was arranged through her school with someone who had been to Brookes and asked her about her hobbies!

Edited

She got accepted to attend the UNIQ residential but unfortunately couldn't attend because she got covid which was devastating for her but she was able to at least do the online courses. She also got chosen to attend a residential at one of the colleges via their out reach program where they picked the brightest students in our local area. I can't remember if there was a session about interviews I'll have to ask her but either way I have my fingers crossed for her. She should know by the 27th November if she's been shortlisted as that's the cut off date to apply for the remote interview workshop.

Well done to your DS on his Warwick offer @Lightsabre. You must be relieved.

HewasH2O · 10/11/2023 23:12

Hope it goes well for her. One of the perks of attending UNIQ were free copies of the OUP A Very Short Intro To....books. I borrowed them all myself & now have quite a collection.

Mirrormeback · 10/11/2023 23:19

@Lightsabre congratulations to your DS

@Thatisagreatquestion my DS is waiting to hear from Durham so it's good to know they're handing out the offers

My DS has applied to do his main subject with another so a joint degree but I can't say what because it's very outing

Lightsabre · 11/11/2023 07:37

Thanks all, nice to have one in the bag before Christmas.

Thatisagreatquestion · 11/11/2023 23:34

Good luck to your son. I don't think many offers from Durham have been issued yet. At least I haven't noticed people sharing the news on here. My son has an offer for computer science...

Norma27 · 12/11/2023 10:03

My dd now has offers from York, Nottingham and Leeds for History and French. Waiting for Durham and Oxford.
She was on the French UNIQ residential and loved it. She stayed in St John’s.
She also went on a history study day which was at Keble.

Hello safe space to ask the stupid parent questions on this whole process !
Is it the department or the college that make the decision to interview or reject? Thanks

O2HaveALittleHouse · 13/11/2023 15:24

I believe it's the college based on the department's minimum entry criteria.

Redhotchillipeppers · 13/11/2023 15:28

For Cambridge it does appear to be the college.

Gonegrey1967 · 13/11/2023 15:29

quick question. How do they find out if have got an interview? Will it come through to their personal email or do they have to keep logging onto the portal of the Cambridge college they applied to?

thanks

Redhotchillipeppers · 13/11/2023 15:34

The Cambridge college my DS has applied to sent an email saying an email would be sent out w/c 20th Nov informing the candidate if they are being invited to interview.

ThirdTimeBuyer · 13/11/2023 15:57

Thanks everyone ! No offers here yet and I’m dreading the first news DC gets is a rejection next week on their birthday ! Oh the parenting worries never stop.

catmomof3 · 13/11/2023 16:06

Just saw on Reddit that Oxford have started to send out email's if you haven't been shortlisted for an interview. So far it's one post but it's starting to feel more real now of what might be next to come.

Newgirls · 13/11/2023 16:10

Oh they tell you if you haven’t first?

my student only just sent off essays and music tape - right on last day which was a bit tight for my liking!

RIPMatthewperry · 13/11/2023 16:11

Fingers crossed for everyone’s DC. I know statistically they can’t all get a place but it would be rather lovely if they all did.

It's my first time experiencing this with my daughter so I have no idea. I don't think she'll hear anything this week from her college as deadline just passed for written work so they need go through all of that first I imagine.

But good luck to everyone's DC's and remember they will thrive wherever they end up, Oxbridge or elsewhere.

I read someone had posted on here ….. “rather than a rejection it is a redirection “. I love this , I’m a firm believer in you always end up where you are supposed to be. Good luck everyone, I’m sure whatever the outcome our DC’s know they have done their best and we are all super proud.

@Gonegrey1967 DD received an email to her personal address used on her UCAS application. There has been no update on UCAS regarding invitation to interview.

Relying on DD to check her emails regularly and actually notice one from Oxford certainly adds an extra layer of jeopardy 😬

stoneysongs · 13/11/2023 16:45

@catmomof3
Please could you post a link to the Reddit thread? I'm sure I've seen it before but can't find it 🤦‍♀️

mondaytosunday · 13/11/2023 16:55

docs.google.com/spreadsheets/u/0/d/103VDt7S19exENVghfjGKsZpgFDImexrBv2fucBAFyaI/htmlview

I think that's it?

My daughter got an email from her college that they will inform about interviews starting from Nov 13. She already has the date of her written assessment on. Oh 27th.

mondaytosunday · 13/11/2023 16:56

Oops no that the general offer spreadsheet
not the oxbridge one. I've seen it though see if I can find it.

stoneysongs · 13/11/2023 17:07

Oh that one is useful too, thank you @mondaytosunday

I can have a look at whether Warwick and UCL have started offering in DD's subject yet.
