Applying with grades ‘in hand’

Does anyone have experience of DC applying to university post-A level? I’m curious as to whether offers tend to come through more quickly than when applying in year 13. And also whether DC should be applying to universities where grade requirements are equal to what they have ‘in hand’ or a bit lower? I suppose I’m just a bit confused as to whether, if for example they’re applying for a course which requires 3 x As, they will be judged more favourably because they actually have those grades already or more harshly against someone who is predicted A stars. Or maybe it varies depending on course/university…

@Mumofash I am sorry DS hasn’t heard from his favourites yet and I sympathise with the frustration. But Warwick is fabulous and for academics and career purposes it really beats them both.

Also my impression is that the students there are a happy lot. But I know the idea of a fairly isolated campus uni is somewhat Marmite

DS didn’t get offer last year from Leeds or Bristol so accepted Bath for economics. Achieved A* x3 geography, maths and economics. Rejected Bath and decided to take a gap year (arghhhhh)
Reapplied - has had offers back from Nottingham, Warwick and Loughborough but nothing yet from Leeds or Bristol. Nail biting……..

This sounds very similar to my son's experience! Received rejections from LSE, UCL, Durham and Manchester for economics in 2022-23 cycle. He was predicted A* *star x 3 and all the feedback he got was 'too many high quality applicants'. Got an offer from Southampton, but decided on a gap year too. Reapplied this cycle with 3 A star achieved (same subjects!). So far he's received unconditional offers from Warwick and Exeter, though still waiting for a response from Leeds and Edinburgh. The fifth choice not entered yet, and may not be added since Warwick is his first choice.
