@singingstones does your DD still not know her predicted grades?

Nope! Two teachers told her when she asked a while ago, but she hasn't been told officially what has gone on the form. The other two teachers ignored her, so she doesn't want to ask again and doesn't want to get them from UCAS because they're "bound to be ok". Which they probably are, but I remember only too well DS's physics teacher telling me at parents evening that he'd got a high B in his mock and should get an A in the real thing, while predicting him a C 🤦‍♀️

(He did get an A - the school's crappy support for uni entry was one of the reasons DD chose sixth form college instead, hmm 🍳🔥)

So I worry about it as quietly as I can and DD is perfectly relaxed, about that at least 😂

Newgirls · 17/10/2023 08:51

Did you see the lovely story on bbc news today about the history Cambridge student who studied at a pupil referral unit. Had a tough time with severe anxiety and then found the PRU really great support. Good to hear a positive news story.

Rollergirl11 · 17/10/2023 10:06

@singingstones absolutely ridiculous! I suppose at least now your DD has an offer she can gauge that her PG’s are higher based on the offer.

DD has been looking at her application in the UCAS hub. For her current a levels it is saying the grade is not provided. Should it be saying that or is it just that she is not able to see the predicted grades that have been entered? She’s panicking now that her college haven’t entered her PG’s correctly!

Yes, she must have been predicted at least BBB!

DD's form also says "not provided" for the A level grades so don't worry about that. Unless of course both of their tutors have messed it up 😂

Not beyond the realms of possibility given both of our struggles with our respective colleges… 🤦‍♀️
But no, thanks for that, it puts my mind at ease that they haven’t screwed up.

Lighthearted- after all the aggro over PS we now have the passport style photo that gets uploaded with the SAQ. It will be (🤞) their ID photo for three plus years. After rejecting 30 either taken by me or selfies it's taken on a surprisingly important measure of vanity in a normally not vain at all girl - or on the other hand just a monumental waste of time.

Redhotchillipeppers · 17/10/2023 14:13

@mondaytosunday ha ha. My DS spent so long grooming for the photo, I had to go check on him. He’s never been remotely interested in how he looks, so that was quite the surprise.

Jaxx · 17/10/2023 14:59

We managed to get a really good picture of my son early last year which has been used for literally everything since - including his passport and driving licence.

Jaxx · 17/10/2023 15:05

Still have to get him to fill out the SAQ along with a disability and another additional questionnaire he received from the college today.

My biggest concern is about the essays. They haven’t written any for history so far this academic year and won’t have done until after the submission deadline. Do essays done in June still count as recent?

Headingto18 · 17/10/2023 16:17

@Jaxx yes I believe so - just as people can use an extract of EPQs. DC is applying for O - not sure if C is the same. DC doesn’t actually have any essays from 6th form except v short exam ones so had to write two last week very quickly which was a bit of a shock for them

Rollergirl11 · 17/10/2023 17:01

@jaxx DD is having to write 3 essays per week for History at the moment! Do you know the deadline for submitting their essays? If so when were you told and by whom?

Rollergirl11 · 17/10/2023 17:11

Don’t worry @jaxx, DD has just received the email from the college outlining everything.

MsFogi · 17/10/2023 17:34

Can someone give me some insight on the photo for the supplementary Cambridge form - I don't want to be helping DS out in a huge stress when he panics about this just before the deadline!! Is it in a particular format, size, shape etc etc, is something taken on a mobile phone going to be sufficient?

Same here.

PandaPacer · 17/10/2023 18:25

We took a photo on the phone too - seemed to go through OK.

DS is pretty happy and relieved to receive an offer for CompSci this afternoon from Bristol. He has only submitted 3 applications so far and was waiting to see if he got a Bristol offer before choosing the other two.

Bristol are definitely quick this year - two of his friends have also received Maths offers. It's a good confidence boost (and takes the pressure of a little - even subconsciously) for the TMUA tomorrow!

Good luck to everyone else sitting entrance exams this week.....

mondaytosunday · 17/10/2023 18:32

@MsFogi it says passport style. So plain background and maybe non smiling? Just crop it like a passport and send that.
We have abandoned it for the day as she now has to wash her hair...

mondaytosunday · 17/10/2023 18:35

Congrats @PandaPacer! I heard Bristol was quick. My daughter getting anxious about Bath as no acknowledgement or anything from them (nor Durham).

notfeelingcreative · 17/10/2023 18:52

Good luck to all for admission tests tomorrow. TSA for DS…

tiggerandpoohtoo · 17/10/2023 19:00

My DD had her first offer today for York for chemistry, so she feels a little relieved. Her NSAA hasn't been going too well the last couple of days as she's struggling with timing

ShanghaiDiva · 17/10/2023 19:01

@PandaPacer
congratulations to your ds!

Teriyakieverything · 17/10/2023 20:02

All the best of luck to DC with the tests tomorrow.

Can’t believe it was a year ago dd did hers.
