Good luck to those taking tests this week

Panicmode1 · 17/10/2023 21:21

Good luck to everyone sitting their tests this week...may the force be with you!

Congratulations to those with early offers too - it is nice to go into the Oxbridge exams knowing there is a potential plan B.

(DS had an offer from Bristol 2 days after submitting his application last year....Durham offered about 2 days 😉 before the deadline to make offers expired. It made him think far less of Durham 😂).

Rollergirl11 · 17/10/2023 22:13

Yes good luck everyone!

stoneysongs · 18/10/2023 06:29

Good luck to the test takers! 🍀

mushroom3 · 18/10/2023 11:08

Good luck from me too x

Okay so DD is starting to look at the two essays she needs to submit for Cambridge now. The instructions in the email from the Cambridge college say you have to download the cover sheet (which is a word document) and incorporate in to the same document as the written work and submit together as a PDF. It should be an essay marked by the teacher and must be original, not re-written or corrected. Given that DD’s essays are handwritten I assume she has to take a picture of her essay. But she then needs to merge with the cover sheet which is a word document and send it as one PDF document. Times 2.

Sounds like a logistical pain in the backside!!! 🤦‍♀️😬

TSA was incredibly time pressured and some guessing went on. Not feeling at all confident for the high score that’s needed for e&m interview. Bit flat.

Oh gosh, haven't heard from DS yet. Did yours do the TSA including essay or only the multiple choice?

WobblyLondoner · 18/10/2023 11:28

DS tight lipped. "Not my best, not my worst"!

notfeelingcreative · 18/10/2023 11:35

@WobblyLondoner just the multiple choice…

Headingto18 · 18/10/2023 11:58

@Rollergirl11 DD is using tiny scanner to copy the essays and cover sheets and that will create the pdfs - hopefully!

Sybill · 18/10/2023 13:52

DD doesn’t think I’ll need to be on this thread for much longer given how awful the BMAT just was, but we’ll see!! She has 3 other choices that she’s really keen on so very much focusing on interview prep for those now

ladsmum · 18/10/2023 14:02

NSAA not great here. DS messed up the timings on section 1 and had to leave 8 maths questions. He thinks the rest went .....OK.

Panicmode1 · 18/10/2023 14:43

If it is any consolation, DS thought he'd completely messed up his ENGAA last year - he had done reams of practice but walked in through the door afterwards completely deflated and saying "Cambridge is gone" - but he's just gone back for his second year, so please don't despair until you have to!!

Redhotchillipeppers · 18/10/2023 16:20

I texted my DS, to ask how the TMUA went. His text back was ‘good’. I was expecting that as one answer out of 3 he gives for everything. His other go to answers are ‘fine’ and ‘so easy’ 😂

mondaytosunday · 18/10/2023 16:34

@Rollergirl11 my dd has just done this. She says get a free program called 'PDF merger' on to her laptop (or whatever). Upload the cover sheet and her SCANNED essays (she says don't take a pic, and you can scan it in notes folder). The program will merge the cover sheet and essays. Do it for each essay separately.

mondaytosunday · 18/10/2023 16:37

The exact program is called PDF merger & splitter' by AnywaySoft. Free on Google chrome store. She says simple to use!

😂 your son is just like mine. Always a one word answer. I sometimes wonder why I bother asking any questions about anything...

mondaytosunday · 18/10/2023 19:27

Hope results are what they all need!
Progress on pic: my daughter took hair from one photo and face from another - she's been blending the hairline. Think she's almost there. Bet no Vogue cover has received such attention! And she's normally a wash and go girl, no makeup or anything! And she's now decided to add to the SAQ statement 🙄. This form is never going to get submitted!

DSandDD · 18/10/2023 21:11

For those of you still waiting for the Durham acknowledgements, they were in the 'other' (not focussed') folder of my son's inbox. I'm glad that a photo is not needed for Oxford (yet) as getting a photo for his provisional driving license was painful enough!

Rollergirl11 · 18/10/2023 21:51

@mondaytosunday ahh thank you. DD has printed out the cover sheet and she’s going to scan that and the essay at college. It creates a pdf file and emails it so she will do that for both essays.

She has submitted her SAQ and the other additional form you had to fill out about interview location preferences.

DD has acknowledgment emails from all her choices now.

Uohoxbridgeapplicationtime · 18/10/2023 22:28

Hope the tests are going well for all of your DC! Mine says that feedback from friends who sat the TMUA and the TSA was that it was a tricky paper so fingers crossed.

re: for essay submissions, any reason why if you have access to an iPhone/iPad you are not using the ‘scan’ function in notes? Surely if you print off the cover sheet you can add the essay to follow all on one scan? Just a thought!

MirandaWest · 18/10/2023 23:05

DD got an offer from Bristol today which definitely helped today. Shes been looking at all the societies at Bristol and sounding very positive about them.

Oxford exams on Friday…

mondaytosunday · 19/10/2023 00:36

Yes that's what I suggested @Uohoxbridgeapplicationtime! Scan it in notes and merge it using the free app.

Silkiefloof · 19/10/2023 02:46

DD is applying to Oxford and sat TSA. She said 46/50 questions she felt quite sure of the answer and other 4 were educated guess. It was her 18th birthday as well. Applying for Econ and Mgmt. She only has 2 unis named on her form atm, LSE is other one but talking about adding Bristol.
