The previous post is filling up and as i seem to be one of the few still in limbo, I thought I'd start a new thread.

A place to discuss 2023 A level results and navigate our way through clearing/frustrations/questions and anything else.

Waiting till the old thread fills up before we hop over here.

I’m on a break for a few days and thinking about all the dc who aren’t sorted. Rooting for them all.

Thefatbutteredpig · 19/08/2023 13:32

Place marking.

Rooting for you and your wonderful dc slightlyjaded

Cafeconleche · 19/08/2023 14:41

Place marking here too. No skin in the game but am now feeling very invested in the outcomes of some people’s amazingly resilient DCs, especially @SlightlyJaded

Bagpuss2022 · 19/08/2023 14:50

Been following the other thread DS2 didn’t do A levels but level 3 BTEC
hope those still in limbo get some answers soon

moshmoshi · 19/08/2023 14:55

Thanks for starting a new thread. We’re still in limbo. DS had an offer for paramedic science at Oxford Brookes, he didn’t hear anything on Thursday but now they’ve have rejected based on his C, D and U. It turns out his C is a couple of marks short of a B and the D is 9 marks off a C. We’ve asked his teacher to look how close The U was to an E.

I have a few questions: is it worth getting the D remarked or is 9 marks too far away? We are definitely going to get the C looked at ( once I know how to do that!) and maybe the U if it’s close to an E.
DS is going to email OB to let them know- are they likely to give his offer back? Or will he have to apply all over again? It was a deferred offer so he wasn’t due to start till September 24. I had really good advice from lots of posters on the last thread so would really appreciate any words of wisdom.

Hi all still in limbo here as well, DD got her insurance offer but waiting to hear from KPMG re her apprenticeship offer for audit (needed BBB got BBC). Hoping she's still ok as went through their recruitment process, signed contracts etc.....feels like a long weekend, trying to keep her positive!

DrMadelineMaxwell · 19/08/2023 16:34

Hoping that those who need answers dont get kept waiting too much longer. It must be torture!

MargaretThursday · 19/08/2023 16:37

@moshmoshi
Ask to see the papers first and see if you can work out if there are any marks that should be altered. Then you can put in those papers, not them all at once. Otherwise you can have the situation that one paper goes up by 3, the other one goes down by 2 and you're still needing a mark.
Also with the one that is 9 marks off, you want to check how far it is off going down. If he's close to the lower boundary, which can sometimes happen, then he would be at risk of that one dropping a grade.

Fifireee · 19/08/2023 16:38

I hope everyone gets good news soon. I’m still fuming about this marking. I am angry for all these amazing kids.

Thanks that’s great advice- we’ll do that

Middersweekly · 19/08/2023 17:54

I am keeping my fingers crossed for those DC still waiting on an outcome. I am hoping they hear back very soon and whatever path they decide on, they will enjoy and embrace. IMO they will go far in life with the resilience they’ve shown!
I wish all your DC well with their future endeavors.

Place marking.
Feeling frustrated with DD today. After all the issues with grades and clearing she got a place at UWE. Great - but no accommodation. I have been trying to chase things on but DD went out last night and has spent the whole day in bed!
I know she is tierd and this is all emotionally draining but if you have nowhere to live then you can't go!? It seems that all the student accommodation is taken. She has made no or very little effort. She asked to go to Bristol on Monday for a campus tour but now has told me that she actually hadn't replied to the invite! It's a 2 hour drive away so I hope it's ok if we just turn up.
This is all so frustrating and there just seems to be one obstacle after another.
Sorry, just needed to rant!

sammyjoanne · 20/08/2023 00:52

Place marking :) Daughter is off to Reading university . Her predicted was ABC, and she got BCC, but they still let her in (her offer was BBD). I really hope everyone DC gets there grades or place at uni x
It just seems like this year has not been great for a lot of our DC whether its lower grades of the marking boycott whch has affected my eldest DD.

UcasSchmucas · 20/08/2023 09:24

Hope you get some firm news very soon @SlightlyJaded .
What a shock re your DD's grades. Have her teachers shed any light as to what might have happened?
And then to have the wait for confirmation from MMU dragged out is just cruel.

MarchingFrogs · 20/08/2023 09:38

@Lowther , when DS1 went to Bristol (U of, rather than UWE and for postgrad, so not expecting or wanting halls of residence) he found accommodation via the spare room website. There was a 'buddy up' function, which he used to team up with another student and they found a two bedroom flat together, which was further out - actually in the direction of the main UWE campus - but which they decided was preferable to rooms in shared houses nearer to UoB.

DS2 (UEA, going into 3rd year) and friends found a 5th person via Facebook to take the last room in a house with them (also a student, just not someone known to any of the others initially).

@MarchingFrogs Thank you for this information, will let DD know.

How are you & your DD @SlightlyJaded fingers crossed MMU have come good on the UCAS hub. Your call to them did sound very encouraging.

I can’t link to the unhelpful ‘fancy’ poster but it did annoy me. She can’t assume that everyone who missed a grade got into their 1st choice - lots didn’t. DD got ABB and was rejected by AAB offer - the A did not offset the B. It’s a bit gutting that she isn’t one of the many whose uni made an allowance, esp when A is subject choice. We’ve moved on but comments like fancy*’s are naive.

NotDonna · 20/08/2023 13:00

agh!!

That is indeed gutting, @NotDonna. The predominant stories in the news are unis honouring offers when kids have dropped grades but it's ABSOLUTELY not that way in all unis!!!

SlightlyJaded · 20/08/2023 20:12

@notdonna - that's harsh. I know so so many that got first choices with even two of their grades bumped down. I am sorry. Hope you have managed to find a way through

oh I’m am sorry your dd didn’t get good news with Bath. I know York was her second choice and as you know it was also my ds’s. We visited York 3 times (long story) and stayed over in the city one of those times and found it an absolutely amazing Uni and great city. Quite a few from my dc school (or should that be ex school) always go to York for a very wide range of subjects and all have a fab time.

Oh and she can go to the York Ghost Merchants shop on the shambles which is fab (if she doesn’t know then check out their Insta).

im sure she’ll have a great time but so sorry Bath we’re inflexible.

UnfunnyJester · 20/08/2023 21:32

Placemarking. We're still waiting for a remark and a recall. The remark is 4 marks off a B and the recall is because ds was predicted an A and got a D. He didn't think he did that badly but who knows if he misread a question or skipped something or there's a marking mistake.
At least I won't regret not trying. Hope we get it soon!

SlightlyJaded · 20/08/2023 21:59

@UnfunnyJester Also awaiting a re-mark. Also 4 marks off a B. Was predicted an A and got a C.

I don't quite understand how your DS is 4 marks off a B if he got a D though? Did you mean a C?

SlightlyJaded · 20/08/2023 22:00

Ah wait - the recall is different to the remark. Sorry - got it. Hope it goes in your favour.
