The previous post is filling up and as i seem to be one of the few still in limbo, I thought I'd start a new thread.

A place to discuss 2023 A level results and navigate our way through clearing/frustrations/questions and anything else.

@SlightlyJaded that is absolutely brilliant news!! Basic or not, it is accommodation and it is in Manchester, win win! And those in basic accommodation tend to form a tight bond based on the fact the accommodation is less than luxurious. You must feel that a huge weight has lifted! I think it's wine o'clock! 🍾

Good to hear.

The actual halls are lovely - huge social spaces, games room, study areas, garden, gym etc - but she does have the smallest and simplest room they do. I think though - that she will value the double bed and ensuite more than a larger room with a single bed and shared bathroom. It's tiny, but nothing a few cushions, prints and a string of fairy lights won't fix!

Brilliant news op. Here's to uni joy and success Smile

clary · 22/08/2023 17:13

aaaah @SlightlyJaded that is such such good news phew

tribpot · 22/08/2023 17:14

It sounds rather luxurious compared to the uni my ds is going to, although he has deliberately chosen to go into one of the unrenovated halls because it's the quiet hall. He does have an ensuite, but other than that it gives off strong 'Prisoner Cell Block H' vibes. I do prefer the unrenovated kitchens as they seem bigger for a flat of 8. Can't imagine sharing a kitchen space but hey ho!

Take several deep breaths. We are knackered from two days of shopping for uni but I didn't want to mention it before now 😂You've still got several weeks, it looks like MMU starts on the same day as DS' uni, 18 September.

Cafeconleche · 22/08/2023 17:23

@SlightlyJaded that’s just BRILLIANT news!!!!! Over the flipping moon for you both. I’d say that an enormous glass of wine is in order.

WhateverLinus · 22/08/2023 17:34

@SlightlyJaded I've been lurking throughout these threads as my DD will be in this position next year. A great outcome at last and really hope your DD is happy and thrives in Manchester.

Lowther · 22/08/2023 17:37

That is great news @SlightlyJaded not long to go now until Freshers.
Still no joy with accomodation here, either no call back from agents or they have already gone but still listed. We are all feeling ill. It's been DD second day in bed and I am feeling out of sorts too. I'm sure the stress is having an affect on our health but I/we will not loose hope. Back to ringing around again tomorrow.
I am looking forward to going shopping soon though.

Middersweekly · 22/08/2023 17:38

Brilliant news! @SlightlyJaded you must both be so relieved!

TheOnlyMrsW · 22/08/2023 17:45

@WhateverLinus I'm exactly the same - completely awed by how strong and resourceful all of the DC's and parents (mainly mums but not all) are being. I'm so pleased that @SlightlyJaded seems to be getting to the end and hope that your DD has an amazing time, Manchester is a fab city.
Selfishly I'm also grateful to the threads as it's enabled me to have a conversation with DD about how predicted grades are put together and she has finally accepted my suggestion of looking at lower offer courses before applying this year!!!

stilldumdedumming · 22/08/2023 17:48

@SlightlyJaded ds' room is so tiny that the en-suite is basically a shower over a toilet. He has a single bed and a no drawer space. But it's London and he is extremely low maintenance.

LaDeeDa123 · 22/08/2023 17:57

Brilliant news @SlightlyJaded You must be so relieved.

SlightlyJaded · 22/08/2023 17:01

Oh look at you all shouting at me :)

Thank you thank you to all of you.

Brilliant! I keep checking back to see if there has been progress.

Joking apart - we arent too far away from Manchester. Don’t be stuck if you DD needs anything.

Go have some 🍷🍷🍷 and chill

isthatmyage · 22/08/2023 17:59

@SlightlyJaded the best news...congratulations! Still the waiting game here, DD waiting for Audit apprenticeship to be confirmed with KPMG, trying to get her to book accommodation at her insurance uni...will insist tomorrow, my nerves!

HappiDaze · 22/08/2023 18:01

@SlightlyJaded I'm so relieved for you and your DD. She got the Uni she wanted plus decent accommodation

That's brilliant

You can breathe again and relax GinWine and so can we all on your behalf Grin

Szboox · 22/08/2023 18:10

SlightlyJaded · 22/08/2023 16:56

WE HAVE ACCOMODATION

OFFICIAL MMU ACCOMODATION

Most basic room you can get, but the halls look fun and it's ensuite with a double bed.

Thanks ALL the fucks for that.

Yes! That’s the best news!! I’m so pleased for you both! I think my son is in a very ‘sociable’ hall at MMU from what I have been reading!!

LighthouseCat · 22/08/2023 18:11

Also just wanted to say so relieved for you and your DD @SlightlyJaded. And I hope anyone else still in an uncertain situation gets some positive news v soon. What a rollercoaster!

Ohhelpicantthinkofaname · 22/08/2023 18:14

AfingeroffudgeisNOTenough · 22/08/2023 18:34

Have been lurking this thread, just wanting to say fingers crossed for those still in limbo!

DD first choice was York Uni, her offer was ABB but she got BCC (another shock here) but was very lucky to still be offered a place.

It's all very exciting but I'm absolutely DREADING the day we have to drop her off-I can't sleep thinking about it 😭😭

Please tell me I'm not alone in this!

DD going to York - what’s your daughter studying?

stilldumdedumming · 22/08/2023 19:22

@SlightlyJaded how does DD feel. Has a weight been lifted?

Ds wants to do everything himself. He has extremely low standards in terms of domestic comfort. There will be no trips to dunelm or even ikea here. Although he's taking himself to halls on the train as he's London bound, so it's probably as well!

NotDonna · 22/08/2023 19:30

Fabulous news @SlightlyJaded she will love Manchester!! And good luck for your son’s GCSEs on Thursday!

Cwalks · 22/08/2023 20:54

NotDonna · 22/08/2023 19:14

DD going to York - what’s your daughter studying?

Sociology with Criminology. She's got Vanburgh College which was her first choice (and mine because it's catered so I know she'll eat something more than super noodles 😂

What about yours?

WishIHadAButler · 22/08/2023 22:12

Ha an Internet stranger’s daughter getting a room in Manchester has made me smile more than I thought possible. Fab news!

A double bed with ensuite?! Sounds better than ‘basic’ to me!

SlightlyJaded · 22/08/2023 22:27

Oh my god you're all amazing. I knew you were being supportive but I am honestly getting the best feeling reading all your lovely posts. I feel like I slightly hogged the latter part of the thread but I can't tell you how much it kept me going and for you to all care so much... Just lovely.

DD has finally gone out this evening - she has been feeling too low until today - and all her friends (who got bloody Uni of Leeds / Newcastle / Uni of Manch etc) have been unbelievably supportive and really lifted her confidence. They keep saying it could have been any one of them and she has nothing to be ashamed of. She texted earlier just to say that she is finally starting to allow herself to feel excited about the next chapter. I bloody love her.

So all's well that ends well. If this is the actual end. I mean.... who know... but for now, I am reposting as a supporter rather than a broken woman. To those still in any kind of limbo, solidarity. It's fucking hard, but if we can turn a CCD into the right course in the right city with MMU Halls booked, anyone can do anything.
