Well we have booked 3 so far... Surrey, Bath and Essex for Politics /politics and IR.
Ds predicted grades gone up since ucas form so may try and get University place this year but have option of applying with grades if he wants to after results to a different set of universities. (year out).
Bath cancelled next week due to strikes so Surrey University our first one.
Guess a fair few offer days coming up.
How's it all going?

Oh @mrsconradfisher I wish we could have waved! Ds and I both impressed with subject talk and despite pressure from people to 'aim higher' for ds it is the University to beat.
I peeked into The Hive and The Nest and they look like great areas as well.

@Neversaygoodbye hope you get a good day for Surrey. Weather makes a difference and we had a November glow between storms on the open day in Autumn and the campus lake etc, looked beautiful. Yesterday was drizzle and we came in a different way via bins etc, and the initial impression was more subdued from ds. I think ds and I are fickle and can be swayed by the weather mood of the day!
However, as the day went on yesterday, ds impression went up again and Surrey is the one to beat again! [Good input from staff and students].
Try to visit the Cathedral on the edge of Stag Hill Campus. Event on yesterday and we were disappointed couldn't go to the main part. Looks like an impressive, modern, white interior from what I could see and a bit different in a good way.

@DinkyDaisy thank you, it's great to get other people's feedback. DD found the course module content really struck a chord with her when we went for the open day last year and the campus was a nice size. She's just hoping she'll get the same feeling about the Uni & course on offer holder day as it's her top choice. We're relatively local too which wasn't a leading factor but just turned out that way. I've never been to the cathedral so will definitely take a look.

DinkyDaisy · 19/02/2023 11:59

It is the course modules and structure of learning and assessment that excites ds with Surrey. (politics and international relations department). Also, the close knit feel of the department and seeming accessibility of academics. Lots going on in the department and lots of speakers, etc.
What subject is your dd doing @Neversaygoodbye ?

Neversaygoodbye · 19/02/2023 12:17

@DinkyDaisy she's doing English Literature with creative writing.

@KittyMcKitty @Racheltheroad my DD is a first year at John's and is one of the people showing offer holders round the college (including accommodation). She absolutely loves her college and was fortunate to get it as her first choice. They do some shared activities/sports with Chads, as they are both so small. She ranked John's higher than Chads as much less chance of having to share a room or being reallocated (see the Durham threads from the last couple of years - some people who initially were given Chads seemed to get moved to Stephenson, although she also knows someone reallocated from John's to Aidans). She has done a few TikToks which give a feel for the college - feel free to PM me and I can point you in that direction if your DD's want to see them.

KittyMcKitty · 19/02/2023 13:38

Thank you so much - have pm’d you!

Racheltheroad · 19/02/2023 13:46

Thank you! Just got to remember my password to log into the main site as I can't seem to PM on the app...

GoldenRuby · 19/02/2023 15:08

@KittyMcKitty @Racheltheroad I've replied. Good luck with the decision making.

Racheltheroad · 19/02/2023 15:48

@GoldenRuby thank you!

DinkyDaisy · 25/02/2023 08:47

Good luck on offer days. Essex for us today. Bath next week.
Raining here but Alexa says it isn't!
Ds feeling stressed about choices. Knows Bath 'obvious' choice but had Surrey love and a feeling Essex going to sell well!

Hope it goes well @DinkyDaisy. We decided to only revisit the top 2 so have a few weeks before heading to Surrey on the 18th.

DinkyDaisy · 25/02/2023 10:28

Just 'missed' a connection as first train to full to get on! What a crap train service we have. Pay a fortune for inadequate system...

DinkyDaisy · 25/02/2023 10:29

We will miss our free lunch but hopefully will be on time for subject talks...
Grrr...

hotmilkytea · 25/02/2023 10:43

Oooh another "live" offer holders day thread, I love it!

Sorry you missed your connection... Train too full is a shocker, and quite surprising, it's not exactly rush hour 😱

DinkyDaisy · 25/02/2023 10:50

Only 4 carriages... Could not get on..
I nearly lost my cool. Good thing have sensible 17 year old to calm his aging Mum!
On a train now...

PritiPatelsMaker · 25/02/2023 13:55

We did Nottingham on Wednesday and DC1 firmed them yesterday!

DinkyDaisy · 25/02/2023 15:52

Good to have firming decision sorted!
We are a long way from that...
Another offer day next week and ds head is spinning.
Hoping for a smoother journey home on the trains....

I think Nottingham was always going to be his favourite if I'm honest. He's visited Birmingham twice already, has discounted Sheffield as he's decided he prefers Campus Unis. Wasn't really keen on Loughborough when he went there last week and Liverpool haven't invited him to an Offer Holders Day.

DinkyDaisy · 25/02/2023 17:30

Essex interesting for politics. Clearly has a good reputation internationally for research etc.
However, another offer day next week...
We are doing 3 in total..

DS is still waiting to hear from Durham too but I think he's put them to the bottom of the list! Offer days at Exeter, Birmingham and Cardiff are booked. Don't think he'll do Durham and not keen on Manchester

fUNNYfACE36 · 28/02/2023 16:01

We are going to Bath next week( in fact I bath every week p-) )

NotDonna · 28/02/2023 21:25

Enjoy Bath @fUNNYfACE36 (you won’t need the rubber ducks) what course?

hotmilkytea · 03/03/2023 19:54

Who is going where this weekend for offer holders days?

DS is going to Staffs by himself. We went to the open day in the summer, and it's a strong contender for first choice so hopefully the day will refresh his memory and give him clarity.

@DinkyDaisy any chance of another live thread from you this weekend?! 😆

DinkyDaisy · 03/03/2023 20:05

It will have to be 3rd hand as I'm not going to be there! However, ds knows I want regular updates!
