Is there an applying for 2023 thread which isn’t early entry

1000 replies

KittyMcKitty · 01/11/2022 20:35

I can see there’s the Oxbridge one but dd isn’t an early entry applicant.

anyway she’s finally submitted her UCAS I know school have added the reference so imagine it’ll be off in a day or so 🤞🏻

Shes applying for sociology and has applied to:
Durham
York
Lancaster
Sheffield
Birmingham

her predicted grades comfortably exceed all the standard offers so I hope she gets some offers (and please please please let Durham offer!!).

anyone else waiting?

Thank you - she’s very happy! She was convinced everywhere would reject her. Hope everyone else waiting gets some good news soon!

Brilliant news. How exciting - and her second choice too 🙂.

DS is getting his results back from last weeks exams so hopefully will have definite UCAS predictions shortly and will focus on submitting his form.

Era · 07/11/2022 17:57

DS has just finalised his form but won’t press the button.

he said maybe tomorrow..

RainBow725 · 07/11/2022 18:01

Form approved and submitted by school today. 😬🤞🏻

KittyMcKitty · 07/11/2022 18:04

@Era remind him that pressing the button only sends it to school so still plenty of opportunities to change things 😊

@RainBow725 hope your dc hears back from their choices quickly. 🤞🏻

@SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun good luck to your ds - hope he gets the predictions he hopes for.

hellypad · 07/11/2022 19:00

@Era DD is exactly the same, form all completed but won't press the submit button until she has checked with someone at college first It's driving me potty as I just want her to bloody submit it Trying to keep my mouth shut and just smile though Grin

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 08/11/2022 09:06

We are going on a campus tour to Queens Belfast in early December - Just thinking about the various permutations of whether or not the form has gone in and if we have heard anything by then vs getting the flight booked……. Maybe he shouldn’t submit till after we have been.

ShowMeABrexitBonus · 08/11/2022 09:20

DS has submitted his and also waiting!
To study 4 year MEng;

Manchester
Newcastle
Nottingham
Bristol
Leeds.

His predictions also exceed guides but you just can't take anything for granted!

Good luck to you DD.

ChiefDogsbody · 08/11/2022 09:50

Hello can I join? DS1 submitted his application before half term (his school push them to get it done early) and has had 4 offers back already! Hull, Newcastle, Liverpool and Abertay. Just waiting for Leeds now.

I think his problem is going to be deciding which ones to accept- he's a budding computer game programmer so Abertay seems favourite although it's the lowest in terms of required grades. Newcastle is my favourite for Computer Science (computer games), and Hull we both liked too. I think he only put the other two on to make up numbers! Anyone have any thoughts?

Thepaintedgarden · 08/11/2022 09:56

Hello!! Just joining here and will go back and read the thread.
Ds hoping to submit today with Bristol, Exeter, Birmingham, York and Manchester.
He really wants to go to Exeter though. He is hoping to do IR.

Thepaintedgarden · 08/11/2022 10:05

Congratulations to everyone with offers already! Hoping we will be there soon!

DonnaGiovanna · 08/11/2022 10:11

Hi everyone, signing up for the thread, thanks for starting it. Dd2 still hasn't submitted her UCAS form and has spent a year changing her mind about what she wants to study. At the moment the situation is that ideally she would like to study joint honours Music and Eng Lit, but this isn't available at many universities, and neither of the ones she is particularly keen on after open days (Bristol and Birmingham).

So she's planning to put these 2 top for Music only, then 3 more that she's less keen on/make lower offers so if she misses the grades for her 2 favourites she has the compensation of being able to do the joint honours (these will be Cardiff or Royal Holloway). We're a bit stuck for a 5th option as we are in a poorly connected area of the far south/SW and anything north of Birmingham is going to be pretty awkward from that point of view (she is adamantly opposed to learning to drive atm but that may change...). Otherwise Leeds or Sheffield would be good options.

She's just finished her personal statement and had it approved, so we just have the matter of last and final listing. Plus she will need an extenuating circumstances form for Bristol who take GCSE grades into account in their calculations (and don't look at the PS, so annoying). Dd did less well than predicted in a number of subjects because she missed a lot of school - over and above lockdown - through illness. All good now and predicted grades for A level will get her anywhere - but I'm a belt & braces kind of person, so taking any help there is.

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 08/11/2022 10:11

I found this list for offer rates. Quite surprising in places and hopeful for Exeter. I wonder if some of the higher offer rate universities that are considered to have good reputations give higher offers maybe. No breakdown by subject unfortunately.

KittyMcKitty · 08/11/2022 12:00

Thanks @SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun interesting reading. I also wondered if some of the high ranking Unis who give a high % do so because they are often an insurance choice?

Thepaintedgarden · 08/11/2022 14:07

I have been trying to look at prospective A level dates (to try and sort my own annual leave as DH is having to work away for some of the time and I work 13+ hour days so would rather be off if ds has an exam) - some of his dates seem to be in half term? Is this likely to be accurate? My older DC definitely never had any exams during the holiday but I don't know if it happens sometimes?

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 08/11/2022 15:03

I do hope not. The AQA dates leave out half term but he edexcel dates don't. The teachers are all on leave that week - I really doubt there will be exams.

KittyMcKitty · 08/11/2022 16:31

There are no Edexcel exams in half term.

Oh brilliant! Thank you. I could only find provisional lists so that's very helpful!

KittyMcKitty · 11/11/2022 16:48

Hope all our dc are doing well and hope they are getting good news with offers.

dd got another offer today from Lancaster. They gave her the standard offer of ABB or an offer of BBB if she firmed them.

Still waiting on Sheffield, Birmingham and Durham.

OP posts:
SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 12/11/2022 06:55

Great news Kitty. These permutations on the offers are going to make the decisions more difficult - all a bit of a gamble. Good to have some certainty especially with the accommodation issues they seem to be having.

No submission yet here. I think the school want it by the end of the month though. Predictions not quite finalised so the short list is still possibly changing.

Do you know if there is any point applying for one or two with typical offers slightly above the predicted grades or would it just be a wasted option?

Joshanddonna · 12/11/2022 07:57

DS has now got offers from Leeds, Southampton and Gloucester for Geography. Leeds is AAB and the other two BBA

KittyMcKitty · 12/11/2022 08:42

@SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun my elder child (at Uni) had quite a few friends who were made offers above their predicted grades (the standard course offers).

well done to your ds @Joshanddonna brilliant news! Where are they still waiting on?

Dd was v pleased with the Lancaster offer - she probably ranks it the same as York in her preferences and the option of a reduced offer was a surprise - if Durham doesn’t offer it will be a tough choice between there and York.

Of those she’s waiting on, now she has the offers from York and Lancaster she isn’t interested in Birmingham (although great Uni the course isn’t as appealing) or Sheffield (really great looking course but lower ranking) SO it’s just the long wait for Durham. On paper (and looking at the achiever grades on f students doing sociology in previous years) I would be hopeful she would get an offer, and her predicted grades are higher then the standard offer but you never know. Am just hoping they don’t drag it out for months! Does anyone know if Durham have given out any non contextual offers yet?

Anyway the most important news is that Durham, York and Lancaster all appear to have good Taylor Swift societies- clearly you have to get your priorities right!

Congratulations to all dc who have received offers and 🤞🏻to those waiting that you get good news soon!

OP posts:
hellypad · 12/11/2022 10:03

@KittyMcKitty Taylor Swift society is on DDs must have list too Smile though she has said if there isn't already one she will just start one
