Is there an applying for 2023 thread which isn’t early entry

1000 replies

KittyMcKitty · 01/11/2022 20:35

I can see there’s the Oxbridge one but dd isn’t an early entry applicant.

anyway she’s finally submitted her UCAS I know school have added the reference so imagine it’ll be off in a day or so 🤞🏻

Shes applying for sociology and has applied to:
Durham
York
Lancaster
Sheffield
Birmingham

her predicted grades comfortably exceed all the standard offers so I hope she gets some offers (and please please please let Durham offer!!).

anyone else waiting?

Soooo pleased for your DD @Yoloohno she must be delighted! And huge congrats to dinkyDaisy and mightyduck all very very exciting.
DD mentioned today that the email from bath also said that two people would be reviewing her application!

Yoloohno · 20/12/2022 19:44

Thanks for the good wishes and we have another offer, John moores at 112 UCAS points and they’ll include her EPQ points if needed.

This is her second choice and the furthest from home, I was quite hoping that she wouldn’t get an offer but she seems the most excited so far.

Just the one left now and it’s first choice.

How is everyone else getting along?

NotDonna · 20/12/2022 19:57

The first choice is bound to be last @Yoloohno Same here - DD waiting on Bath (1st choice) but because they emailed saying they’ll be looking at hers after Jan deadline, by 2 reviewers and that she’ll know by end April, she’s fairly relaxed. She only applied to 3 places and received her other two within days.

Anyone else going to York’s offer holder day in January?

Chaos44 · 20/12/2022 20:52

My DD just got an offer from Durham which a huge surprise- she wasn’t expecting to hear for a long time so is really pleased. Perhaps things happening a bit faster this year.

Selok · 20/12/2022 21:18

We have offers from 4 - Exeter AAB - Neuroscience, Queens Belfast BBB Chemistry, Reading BBB for Chemistry and Nottingham BBB for Biotechnology waiting for Southampton for Chemistry.

Yoloohno · 20/12/2022 21:26

It’s so frustrating waiting for their first choice isn’t it.

My daughter set her heart on it from the moment she went to the open day and Liverpool and Leeds will be ok for what she wants. Big city living with shops, football and differing nightlife especially as she’s not a drinker.

But it does sound positive @NotDonna if they’re reviewing it. What were the other choices?

NotDonna · 20/12/2022 22:29

@Yoloohno She chose two courses as Bath (one ‘Business’ and the other ‘International management’) both very similar other than the formatting of the placement year. Her other two are both ‘International management’ with placement year at York and Loughborough. She’s predicted 3xAs but not sure how realistic that is, so didn’t want to apply anywhere that was 3As. Bath is AAA (but if they offer they say they’ll drop to AAB for core maths which she already has). Loughborough is AAB no dropping offered. York is AAB but dropped her offer to ABB with core maths. So, IF Bath offer that’ll be her firm (AAB) and York her insurance (ABB). If Bath dont offer then Loughborough will be her firm (also AAB) and York remain insurance. She’s not visited York yet. So if she loves it then I guess that could become her 1st choice rather than Loughborough if bath don’t offer.
I don’t know Liverpool at all but Leeds is a fabulous city (not at all biased as I grew up there!) What course is your DD looking at?

Elainethenaughtyelf · 20/12/2022 22:44

DD's UCAS form submitted yesterday and two offers received today - BBC from both Durham (contextual) and Cardiff. We're a bit confused though as she already passed L3 BTEC Ext Diploma at DMM which equates to BBC, so not really sure why they want her A Levels too, any ideas? She's emailed the admissions offices but doesn't expect a response now until Jan.

Yoloohno · 20/12/2022 23:00

Dd is applying for history to going into teaching , her career choice since she was 7.

Glad to j ow Leeds is good and Loughborough ain’t bad, Leicestershire is a fab county (not biased but grew up there).

NotDonna · 21/12/2022 00:51

Great to see Durham offers coming in. They probably mean A level equivalent @Elainethenaughtyelf but she is right to check with admissions as they’re the only ppl who really know.
that’s made me giggle yo

The table on this page shows Durham wanting DDM as a BTEC equivalent for BBC, plus the rider that some courses may require an A level alongside the BTEC:

Elainethenaughtyelf · 21/12/2022 10:08

Ah thanks @MarchingFrogs, that's probably it. BBC should be easily achievable but it would have been nice to have no pressure!

KittyMcKitty · 21/12/2022 12:00

Yay!!! Congratulations to all dc getting offers this week - what a fab early Christmas present!!

@Elainethenaughtyelf well dome to your ds for her Durham offer - can I ask which subject (dd is still waiting to hear from Durham for Sociology so all it crossed here 🤞🏻 )

Now comes the insurance offer choice which is where it’s going to be difficult but that can wait til after Christmas.

How is everyone else today.

Dd got a Cardiff psychology offer at midnight last night!

Wow well done to your DD! Mine is waiting for Cardiff psychology - can I ask when your DD submitted her UCAS?

sailingsunshine · 24/12/2022 11:15

@Titsywoo , early November, it's the offer as expected, A A Astar

NotDonna · 27/12/2022 04:37

I know DDs A level exams start around 18th May and results day on 17th August but does anyone know when they end? I thought it was early June, but nothing on school calendar re any exam info whatsoever. Also, that provisional day they have incase they miss one? TIA.

PettsWoodParadise · 27/12/2022 06:31

Contingency day is 28th June, this is designed for a major event, not if one student misses one exam. It was created when they realised after Grenfell the exam boards had no mechanism to allow students to sit an exam on a different day in the event of a wide impact catastrophe. Contingency day aside, last exam will depend on which exam board and which subject. DD has A levels with three different boards, here is AQA for example.

NotDonna · 27/12/2022 08:26

Thanks. Yes, 3 exam boards here too but we’ve found provisional dates and last one seems to be 13th June.

mondaytosunday · 27/12/2022 08:40

@NotDonna the school should give them their exam dates. My daughter has had all hers - fortunately they seem well spaced out with only two exams on consecutive days.

NotDonna · 27/12/2022 08:54

No such luck from school but looking at the timetables she has a lot back to back and one day with 2. History, Economics and psychology are probably an unusual combination tbf.
How is the studying going for your DC’s? DD is doing some but not sure how much as every time I go in she shuts her laptop and smiles guiltily. Maybe I change the Netflix password 🤣
