2023 uni applications for those pursuing art and creative routes

Duchessofmuchness · 04/09/2022 21:56

The other thread discussing Uni applications for RG and academic routes isn't so relevant for DS. He's considering Art Foundation year or direct entry to uni for fashion design.

Anyone care to join a thread on similar creative paths. (Not just fashion!)

He's looking at art foundation at Kingston, Central St Martin's, UCA,

For Fashion BA looking at Central St Martins, London College of Fashion, Manchester Met, Nottingham Trent, Liverpool John Moores, Leeds Beckett.

Most seem to accept without art foundation but he would need one to Central St Martin's so if he wants to try for that will need foundation.

Lots of open days coming up and hopefully school will give him some more advice next week. No start on his PS yet!!

@OneFrenchEgg yes a conditional offer

OneFrenchEgg · 08/02/2023 19:38

Oh brilliant, and she's an unconditional elsewhere I think (Portsmouth?) - must be a relief!

mumma24 · 08/02/2023 19:40

And a really lovely personal email reply commenting on her portfolio. She was so pleased to receive that @OneFrenchEgg

OneFrenchEgg · 08/02/2023 19:40

For Norwich? That's so nice.

mumma24 · 08/02/2023 19:43

Yes unconditional from Portsmouth and conditional from Worcester. No offer from UWe or Kingston.
Now wishing she applied for UCA @OneFrenchEgg

mumma24 · 08/02/2023 19:45

Yes lovely email from NUA and they have been brilliant responding to my emails too @OneFrenchEgg

OneFrenchEgg · 08/02/2023 19:45

UCA was a really lovely small campus, close to train to London and the staff/studios were good. I'd be happy if dc went there, it felt like a nurturing environment as well as creative.

I read on a Facebook group ‘what I wish I knew about university - wisikau
someone else was saying they were waiting for Brighton.

Thanks

Pourmeanotherwine · 08/02/2023 21:35

@Lottsbiffandsmudge dd is still waiting for Brighton and AUB for Illustration. Both sent her a login to their platform within a day of the form going in and then nothing since. She's got interviews with Falmouth and Cardiff Met, and a portfolio request from Plymouth Arts, but nothing from Brighton and AUB which were her top 2 choices. Her form went in the day before the deadline, so it may be they just haven't had time to read them all yet.

Lottsbiffandsmudge · 08/02/2023 21:45

Thanks @Pourmeanotherwine that is exactly where DS is. Submitted UCAS 2 days before deadline. Online portal login sent straight away. Nothing since.
Leeds also have asked for nothing yet but their website does not mention a portfolio. (It's uni of Leeds and Art and Design rather than Fine Art like eveywhetlre else). Brighton make a big thing about their portfolio requirements on their website but haven't actually asked for one!
Luckily UCL also wanted 20 photos (rather than a power point that UWE and DMU wanted) so he has his 20 best images picked, photo shopped and titled. So should be OK if its all a rush job.

OneFrenchEgg · 09/02/2023 06:50

Have you checked the AUB and Brighton platforms? Dc was sent a login, and the request was there - two emails came within a day of ucas going in, one saying we are interested in your application and some blurb and the other was a login. They had 30 days to submit.

OneFrenchEgg · 09/02/2023 06:51

@Pourmeanotherwine @Lottsbiffandsmudge

Lottsbiffandsmudge · 09/02/2023 07:49

He has checked the portal. I'll get him to look again. And maybe call them. 30days is not until 23rd so he's fine

Lottsbiffandsmudge · 09/02/2023 07:52

And thanks!

Pourmeanotherwine · 09/02/2023 07:58

DD is logging in to both portals regularly to check, there is a space for messages but there are not any there yet.

OneFrenchEgg · 09/02/2023 08:12

It's weird isn't it how different that is? Dc got two emails within a day, making it clear a portfolio was requested. But someone else has had a different experience to dc with NUA.

Pourmeanotherwine · 09/02/2023 08:24

It might just be a timing thing, and the last minute applications are slower because they are also looking at portfolios from the early ones. DD doesnt seems overly worried, she is focussing on the portfolios from the 3 she has heard from. Falmouth is an in person interview, so the portfolio needs to be mounted on card I think, though she can take a sketchbook as well.

Pourmeanotherwine · 09/02/2023 20:28

DD got the portfolio request from AUB today, and an email from Brighton to say they had a lot of applications and there might be a delay getting back to everyone.

Oh that's a relief! Good luck to them

Pourmeanotherwine · 09/02/2023 21:01

Thanks

FancyFanny · 09/02/2023 21:18

DD has an off for Foundation at Leeds!

FancyFanny · 09/02/2023 21:19

Anyone know anything or applied to UAL Chelsea School of Art?

Philandbill · 10/02/2023 05:51

@FancyFanny Well done to your DD. My DD is doing an art foundation this year and loves it.

FactyFrances · 11/02/2023 09:17

Can anyone share thoughts about City & Guilds London Art School for foundation year?

PhotoDad · 11/02/2023 13:51

Congrats on the progress everyone's making! I know it's late in the day, but this was a good video from DD's place that's just appeared, about portfolio prep.
