Support thread for aspiring medics.

We want all our DCs to succeed, whatever their school type. We share knowledge to help them to achieve their goals, celebrate success and support if things don't go well.

Offers are in for some, others on waiting lists, others doing their A levels and planning a gap year.

Best of luck everyone for great results on 18th August, we will be here to celebrate, commiserate, advise and generally support you for the last stage of the 2022 journey. 🍀

Fantastic news @HoneyMobster! Many many congratulations to her! The hard part is over now (well, for you at least! 😉 )

Great news xxx I hope you are off out tonight to celebrate 🍾🍾🎉🎉

Onewildandpreciouslife · 06/07/2022 19:22

Hello all, just coming back here after a break once DD had an offer from Nottingham. Interesting to see so much movement, and congratulations to @HoneyMobster ’s DD!

I think DD’s exams went ok, but she’s very worried about chemistry (not helped by the AQA debacle). She’s just booked a UCAT for September just in case. All very sensible, but it’s so tough on them all

mumsneedwine · 06/07/2022 19:41

@HoneyMobster 🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾

KingscoteStaff · 06/07/2022 20:09

Well done your girl @HoneyMobster !!!

speedyhedgehog · 09/07/2022 07:43

Congratulations @honeymobster dd.. You can enjoy the rest of the summer now! 🎉🎉🎉

sydenhamhiller · 10/07/2022 09:10

So pleased to hear some of the recent good news on this thread!

DS has 2 offers - Leeds and Belfast, but both want 3 As. He was forecast 3 A* s but is - understandably - worried he might not get that. What contingency plan should we have? How does clearing work? Do you call up a central number and ask ‘do you have any spare medicine places?’ Or do you call direct to universities?

Man, first child is such a learning curve… no benefit to dc2 and dc3, this whole process (and the Adam Kaye series) has put them off! 😬

mumsneedwine · 10/07/2022 10:25

@sydenhamhiller if (& it's still a big if) your DS needs clearing the best thing to do is call any Unis he likes as soon as he has his results. Get the admissions phone numbers ready a few days before. Also, keep an eye on TSR as ecolier (an amazingly helpful doctor) keeps an up dated list. Nothing so far - I think there now won't be much movement until results are with the Unis (a week before students get them).
Good luck to everyone.

Monkey2001 · 10/07/2022 14:06

@sydenhamhiller if his offers are AAA the only Clearing possibilities are Liverpool and Leicester (both take A*AB), unless he has an EPQ, in which case there are a few more options.

There will be plenty of people chasing Clearing with AAA+, so I would not bother

..... Posted too early!

Exam nerves are natural, particularly for our lot who have never done exams. If he was predicted 3 x A* he should be fine.

That's such good news HoneyMobsterWine

sydenhamhiller · 10/07/2022 15:30

Thnx x

HoneyMobster · 10/07/2022 15:44

Thanks for all the lovely wishes. We've been through a lot together on this thread!

It's like a weight has lifted in our house and a summer of fun can begin. DD is finishing off today after working at a major sporting event local to us. She then has as about a week before she heads off to interrail and will then by in Europe to work at another major sporting event. And we've booked a Yorkshire Dales break in September. Oh to be 18 again 😊

Keeping fingers crossed for all of the A Level takers with a wait still to go 🍀

Solarlantern · 10/07/2022 17:10

Congratulations @HoneyMobster 's DD and hope she has a great summer!

DS has finished his gap year job now and is likewise feeling much more relaxed after finally completing his OH forms so his offer has changed to unconditional and applying for accommodation - currently with us in France enjoying some time off.

Good luck to all those waiting for results in August too🤞

olafolaf · 10/08/2022 18:20

Just over a week until results day. Hope everyone and their DC have managed to get some post exam relaxation. DD is getting a touch nervous but keeping busy with her new job, and planning a week away with friends after results say. Good luck everyone!

PritiPatelsMaker · 10/08/2022 18:23

Thank you @olafolaf. DS is currently away with his GF. Really hoping he gets his 3 As next week and everyone else's DC on here get what they need.

HoneyMobster · 10/08/2022 18:55

Good luck everyone. DD has received her reading list. Just two books and not too technical. One about when a gene makes you smell like a fish. Another about electricity in the body. She's still swanning around Europe though..::

kackle · 10/08/2022 20:08

I am really anxious about results day next Thurs and how to prop up DC if the results don’t go his way

MidLifeCrisis007 · 10/08/2022 20:20

DD is down in Cornwall at Boardmasters without a care in the world! We bought all her crockery and pots and pans yesterday (decided to go to TK Maxx and get Dartington Bone China at Sainsbury's Basics prices!).

She's off to Ibiza on results day.......

KingscoteStaff · 10/08/2022 21:19

DD back from Zante+Girls / Latitude+Cousins / Croatia+AgedPs and now busy earning as much money as she can.

DH being relentlessly positive, although I notice he has Googled 'Chemistry in Clearing'...

opoponax · 10/08/2022 21:37

Nerves are understandable but I am sure that it will all go well. They are a very bright bunch. Seems like yesterday that you were all in the summer of UCAT and now it's our turn again with DD. Groundhog Day!

HoneyMobster · 10/08/2022 21:53

@MidLifeCrisis007 -DS2 is at Boardmasters. He went down last night. It sounds like it was carnage today on the trains.

MidLifeCrisis007 · 10/08/2022 22:00

DD dodged a bullet then - she went on the coach and had 2 seats to herself!

I think she slept most the way as she only got back from Croatia on Monday (exhausted!).
