I'm in! It's going to be a long road now.

So remind me - what are all your DCs doing?

DS is Cambridge for MML.

PermanentTemporary · 26/01/2022 15:06

Thank you Honey!

Ds is Compsci for Emmanuel (C). No details on exact offer yet.

ladygrinningsoul · 26/01/2022 15:07

DS is Cambridge for Maths.

HoneyMobster · 26/01/2022 15:07

DD is Medicine at Oxford.

Checking in...ready to share the next stage of the journey...

DD has offer for Cambridge HSPS, still waiting for the grade requirement

Panicmode1 · 26/01/2022 15:46

Sorry, probably just replied on the wrong thread, but am here now!

kitnkaboodle · 26/01/2022 15:48

DS for Engineering at Cambridge. Waiting for details of his offer. A bit apprehensive now having seen the offer that @panicmode1's DS just received for Engineering at C!

Panicmode1 · 26/01/2022 15:49

And DS is engineering - his offer is A (FM), A Physics, A (Maths) and B (DT).

RubyDarke · 26/01/2022 15:50

DC2 is an arts subject at Emmanuel (C) I think the ducks and the laundry service (!) were the deciding factors. As DC2 pointed out, it will be a break from doing the family laundry. No idea if the offer details are through yet. DC2 does not like to overburden me with information.

kitnkaboodle · 26/01/2022 15:50

That's a bit brutal, panic! My DS was fished from the pool too. Will update soon.

Panicmode1 · 26/01/2022 15:56

@kitnkaboodle - will be interesting to hear.

He's sure it's because he was pooled - he said that he would probably get a higher offer because of it. (Ironically, Imperial may now be his insurance offer as they 'only' want A* in physics, and the maths and FM could be As.....)

MFLMum2022 · 26/01/2022 16:32

Hi. Thanks for the thread. As my user name implies, DD is MFL at O.

Pleased to report her mocks went better than expected. Her offer is AAA. She’s consistently been an A* in two, but the third is harder. She got a very comfortable A in her mocks in the third, thankfully.

Following and learning from the engineering applicants to C too, as there is a chance that will be us in two years’ time with DD2. It does sound brutal! @Panicmode1, she is currently trying to decide between DT and Chemistry for the 4th A level. How has DT worked for your DS?

carben · 26/01/2022 17:14

My DD is Maths at Oxford (University College). Has to get 2 x A* A from Maths, FM, Physics and Computer Science. Offered under Opportunity Oxford so will have work to do over the Summer, if she gets the grade and a 2 week residential at the beginning of September to help bridge the gap from state to Oxford Uni. Mind you she is still waiting to hear from Imperial which if offered could put a spanner in the works.

Panicmode1 · 26/01/2022 17:42

@MFLM2022 - well done to your DD on her mocks.

DS has enjoyed DT because he really enjoys the design side (his Imperial application is for Design Engineering) - but it's a HUGE amount of work and it's been tough over school lockdowns because they have not had access to labs etc. The theory side of it has been less well received as the teaching is 'patchy' I would say. He's now got a situation where he really needs to focus on his FM (to get his A*) but he's got to make his product, which is hours in the lab after school.....

Juja · 26/01/2022 17:43

MFL at O deferred till 2023
Offer AAA

Similar to @MFLMum2022 - mocks went better than expected which is a relief ...

DD's already been invited to an offer holders day at her college in late February so that's exciting and will make it a bit more real - it wasn't her first choice. She is still considering Trinity College Dublin as well.

VorpalSword · 26/01/2022 17:57

Anyone else got a high offer? DD has been offered 2 A* and an A for Cambridge.
Which is higher than the typical offer of A*AA

kitnkaboodle · 26/01/2022 17:58

@MFLMum2022flm you might be interested to know that my DS is only doing Maths, FM and Physics. He didn't want to do FM as a 4th A level and his school were ok with that. I, on the other hand, warned him that it might disadvantage him for elite unis. He looked into it and disagreed. And yesterday proved his point!!

MFLMum2022 · 26/01/2022 18:21

Thanks @Panicmode1. The design and practical side of DT appeals to DD too. School claim they get the project mostly done in Year 12, but I do wonder whether that is what would happen in practice. Lockdown must have been incredibly frustrating from that perspective.

@kitnkaboodle, that is actually quite consistent with our school advice now, which is that 3 A levels plus an EPQ may be viewed more positively by some unis than 4 A levels. But she really wants to do 4 and has only recently managed to even narrow it down to two options. She’s doing 11 GCSEs (12 if you count further maths) and again that has entirely been her choice. Most of her peers are doing 9 or 10. To be fair, while she does have hobbies, she doesn’t play a musical instrument or do a team sport, so she does have more time than many.

Decafcoffee · 26/01/2022 18:35

Dd is music at Cambridge
Still waiting for offer details. Getting worried it’s going to be even higher as she was pooled.
She’s super excited although mocks after half term so the pressure is on

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 26/01/2022 18:37

DD has an offer from Oxford (St Catz) for History. AAA which ought to be fine as she has straight A*s from two sets of mocks. However we're not counting our chickens just yet.

DH and I met at Mansfield 22 years ago. I absolutely loved my time at Oxford.

quest1on2 · 26/01/2022 18:50

DS had an unconditional at C for Geography. He got AAA in his A-levels (100% based on May /June exams on full curriculum) and also he has an A in EPQ. His offer would have been A*AA. Last year he was rejected from a different college. He had firmed Durham but decided to take a gap year for various reasons (mainly to decompress)!

quest1on2 · 26/01/2022 18:51

Sorry, that should be 3 x A and A EPQ.

cosmiccat · 26/01/2022 19:12

Thank @HoneyMobster for the new thread.
My DD is maths at Cambridge we don't know the offer details yet but are expected AAA plus STEP (can't remember the specific grades for that in 2 different papers).

heinztomatosoup · 26/01/2022 19:21

Don't know if it's just me or the app but the bolded letters keep going weird so difficult to understand A vs A*

ladygrinningsoul · 26/01/2022 19:43

@cosmiccat DS has his Maths offer details - AAA and 1,1 in STEP
