The offers are in but there is still a long way to go...

CurlyhairedAssassin History at a popular old central Oxford college isn't a course known for being undersubscribed.

DS2 happened to have done very well indeed on the aptitude test and seems to have done well at interview too. I think those things must have helped greatly.

goodbyestranger · 31/01/2022 21:33

HewasH20 have I got this wrong, but didn't you say on results day that your DD had missed a grade? And that it took a while to sort things out?

I wasn't intimating that your DC's course is undersubscribed - I wouldn't have a clue whether it was or wasnt. I was talking in general terms.

Another engineering mum here! DD has an offer for Cambridge, I can't remember what the grades are but at her school they do the maths A level in Yr12 so she has the A star already for that and has the FM chemistry and physics to do. She has also got offers from Swansea, Durham and Sheffield. She is also waiting to hear from Imperial for aero engineering as she didn't get an offer straight away. Very exciting but nerve racking times, she can't wait for A levels to be over. We got the exam timetable today so at least we know the end date.

Familyfallout · 31/01/2022 22:08

Not Cambridge, offer is for Oxford!!

goodbyestranger · 31/01/2022 22:23

But you said you didn’t think for a moment they’d be lenient in that situation CurlyhairedAssassin, yet they were.

Well done on your DD's offers. When did she hear from Durham? DS is still waiting to hear from them. DS is also waiting for Imperial aero eng.
HewasH2O · 31/01/2022 22:30

DD always met her offer & had her place, but she was certainly caught up in the CAGs/ TAGs fiasco. I would have been talking about her friend who is at Univ now with AAB rather than the A* AA in her offer. That's the one that took a couple of weeks before being confirmed, complicated further because she was an open offer holder.

HewasH2O · 31/01/2022 22:35

Correction, her friend had AAAA on the day and didn't budge after moderation, but her offer was A*AA. She's happily at Univ.

Juja · 31/01/2022 22:55

@Topicall with regard the au pair yes she has three families lined up to meet. I think if people want a native English speaker then paper work is part of it. Not too impossible- a boiler plate au pair contract then the long term visa application but we are prepared to take time hence trying to get an agreement with a family sooner than later.

Decafcoffee · 01/02/2022 12:24

Dd has just texted through her offer.
AstarAA in any order
Now hoping she actually gets this. She has mocks after half term.

ACMEinc · 01/02/2022 17:56

Hi all
New to the thread but I've read along in the past while DD was deciding whether to apply or not.
After lots of angst she now has an offer from Oxford of AAA for PPE.

Mocks were dire but more to do with anxiety than anything else - I hope! So some work to do on that.
Parents evening this week so should find out more then.

I apologise now that I'm rubbish at keeping up with threads but I do read it eventually!!

quest1on2 · 04/02/2022 07:10

Hi, just wondering if there’s anyone else whose DC has an unconditional offer and whether they need to firm this ASAP? DS’ track only updated with his offer earlier this week and he’s abroad at the moment and trying to get hold of him is tricky due to dodgy WiFi where he is. My feeling is he should accept the offer ASAP as it’s unconditional and he knows he’s going? He’s already applied for a choral scholarship but I think you need to firm C as definite place it as your first choice before they can process this and the deadline for choral scholarship applications is 14th Feb. However, he’s saying you can’t firm until all options are in? Well, one is Durham, so that will be March (if ever), so why hold out for potential places you’re not going to take anyway? Sorry to sound clueless.

HoneyMobster · 04/02/2022 07:48

I think you can withdraw from anything outstanding and then firm @quest1on2

Thanks HoneyMobster - so he has to delete the other 4 options from the form and then after that UCAS will let him firm? Sorry for stupid questions.

Yes - risky with offers conditional on results, but not a problem if firming an unconditional offer.

(Need to be clear that they are withdrawing their applications only to the individual universities, not the whole UCAS application, though).

quest1on2 · 04/02/2022 10:27

Oh god, hopefully he presses the right button then! Thanks so much again.

kitnkaboodle · 07/02/2022 17:11

Been off these threads for a while, but has anyone had an offer from Imperial? DS1 (Cam offer) did his online engineering test with them in November and has literally heard nothing since. The silence is deafening (and he's checked his junk mail etc too). DS2 (Ox reject) is doing his Imperial test on Friday - didn't add it as a choice until the deadline day. 🙄 (will post this to the Oxbridge rejects thread too ...)

Panicmode1 · 07/02/2022 17:20

Hi @kitnkaboodle - DS had his offer from Imperial in early Jan (he had his interview just before or after Cambridge, I can't remember)......he applied for Design Engineering there.

Theamazingshrinkingwoman · 07/02/2022 18:05

Just popping back on to say DD has just had an offer from Durham! Phew!

quest1on2 · 07/02/2022 18:24

Congrats to your dd amazingshrinkingwoman. Is that going to be her insurance?

Theamazingshrinkingwoman · 07/02/2022 19:25

She's only had offers from Aberdeen and now Durham so depends if UCL comes good. Other option is Leeds but she's not massively keen.

petitebleu · 07/02/2022 19:58

DS has also had a Durham offer today. Still waiting from Edinburgh then will decide which is the insurance offer. Durham is very close to home for us so although he's pleased, an offer further afield might be more appealing.

Decafcoffee · 07/02/2022 20:19

Congrats on all the amazing offers!

Can I ask what the process is now? When do they firm up offers? Apply for student loans? Accommodation? My dc is my oldest so haven’t done this before.
Dc has Cambridge, Bristol and Leeds
