Part 4 - A friendly supportive thread for those with DC applying to Oxbridge, its an arduous process to say the least. I suspect we will need some handholding and alcohol for the couple of weeks ahead as our dc have their interviews. For those still waiting to hear I hope news comes soon Flowers

Oh, that's tough for him @Eightytwenty. Even though they "know" that offers are entirely institution and course-based, it must be difficult to be waiting for the first one. Hope something comes through for him very soon.

SandyBayley · 07/01/2022 08:47

It is tough @Eightytwenty - DD is feeling it as lots of her friends have most of their offers back and she has none! I guess at least she has interviews which mean she is in the game.

@goodbyestranger Well done to your DD with her offer from Durham, maybe there is variation by subject with regard offers from Durham?

SandyBayley · 07/01/2022 09:52

Goodbye is talking about her DD who started her course in 2020...

Whatstheweatherlike · 07/01/2022 11:49

Yes, it looks like quite a bit of variation for Durham with regards to subjects. DS has applied for PPE and recently had an email basically saying they haven't forgotten about him but won't be putting out offers until March.

goodbyestranger · 07/01/2022 14:59

Juja Horace asked about Classics so I told her the timing for my DD who is reading Classics now. Admittedly her admissions cycle was two cycles ago, but things mostly stay the same with Classics offers at Durham.

Horace123 · 07/01/2022 15:14

Thanks goodbye I knew what you meant. Funnily enough school told us Edinburg was notoriously late but DS got that offer really quickly. Guessing most unis are being cautious. As stressful as the Oxbridge process is I prefer knowing the actual date of offers and rejections.

Juja · 07/01/2022 21:47

Thanks for the clarification @goodbyestranger and @Horace123
Two years ago my DS had offers from Durham and Edinburgh before Oxford results but this year DD hasn’t but it’s a different subject and I agree Universities caught out by over offering and CAGs are being cautious. Just lots of “we haven’t forgotten about you” emails.
Only 4 more sleeps…! DD head down with revision this weekend plus a 12 hr shift in the restaurant she works in on Sunday…

Yay! Well done to your DS @Eightytwenty!
Fingers crossed more come in before the 25th!

PermanentTemporary · 08/01/2022 11:12

Congratulations to your ds eighty!

TangoWhiskyAlphaTango · 08/01/2022 11:55

@Eightytwenty

Yay! Offer from York. Appears to be unconditional but all a bit strange as no email - he just happened to spot that the wheel of doom was no longer all blue but had a grey slice of hope. Of course he doesn’t want to go (blah blah blah) but really good to have something at last. 100 plus days of waiting which I suspect is on the longer side.

Fab news and a lovely relief!

@Eightytwenty so pleased to hear your DS's news - my DD has one offer and it really helps. There must be a better system than we have now for university entrance. It's partly the long weight, but mostly the drip drip uncertainty of different people getting offers at different times.

DD's getting nervous and stressed about Tuesday while trying to revise for mocks ... hard to know how to help, we are just told "its all right for you" as DH, myself went and other DC is at O/C. I just think we have to live through the next few days.

VikingNorthUtsire · 08/01/2022 14:11

Hooray @Eightytwenty!!

Panicmode1 · 08/01/2022 14:12

Great news 80/20!

SandyBayley · 08/01/2022 17:46

Good news @Eightytwenty - they just need a morale boost at this stage.

Poor DD has spilt water on her new laptop and it's stopped working. Hope the repair shop can fix it 😬 Three more days of mocks to get through and then it's interview prep for Leeds and Newcastle interviews on 20 and 21st.

Juja · 08/01/2022 18:58

@SandyBayley so sorry about your DD's laptop - hope she's okay, sounds as though she's a busy fortnight

sandy, I am a veteran of broken technology with DS1 who breaks phones and laptops constantly. The most recent event was a cup of hot coffee on the laptop and it was fixed in a week over Christmas so don't worry! Apparently, liquid is OK, so long as it isn't sugary...
