New thread for us, lots of lovely support whilst we wait. Some of our lovely DC now have interview dates whilst the rest of us hold our breath and try not to hassle our teens into checking their SPAM folders at least several times per day Grin.

Has anyone's child not yet heard about whether or not they have an interview? My DD has applied for joint English/french and just hasn't heard, whereas everyone else she knows has heard

Geamhradh · 27/11/2021 17:28

@Eightytwenty

DS has the HAA on Monday. Same for your DC *@Geamhradh*?

Interview in on 7 Dec. When is your DC’s @Piggywaspushed?

No, from this year (apparently) there isn't one for Kings'. (I just ran in like loon and said "have you got a test on Monday?!!) Grin Congratulations to all interviewees and commiserations to all those who need them. I love the letter posted by pp (sorry, name has slipped my mind) thank you for sharing it. Flowers

@Letsgoforaskip

I have posted this before but hope it may provide some solace. My DD went through this process in 2019 and had an interview but wasn’t given an offer. The Head of her Sixth Form wrote her a letter which we found really helpful. He quoted a Cambridge admissions tutor who said,” We do our best to select fairly but we know that, despite our best efforts, the selection process is fallible. We turn down candidates whose subsequent performances at other universities and career achievements demonstrate that they are more talented and interesting people than a good few of the candidates we accept. Hence we hope you will not view the outcome as your failure; it may well be ours.” I wish all of your brilliant children wonderful futures wherever they study.
I can see how this could provide solace to those who don't get an offer, but I would say rather that Oxford and Cambridge have many more candidates who deserve an offer than they have places for.

If you get there, the struggle with perfectionism and imposter syndrome is real enough without being told that someone else should have had your place.

Letsgoforaskip · 27/11/2021 18:10

I agree completely. It was never meant to mean that those who get offered places don’t deserve them. The numbers of applicants are huge and what I hoped people would get from my post was that wherever people end up they can still do brilliantly.

carben · 27/11/2021 18:13

@Xanum - my DD also heard yesterday about an interview for New (Maths). She made an open application. No date yet.

Xanum · 27/11/2021 18:52

Hello! Yep, Maths. Open application too! Harry Potter College!

Puffalicious · 27/11/2021 20:08

Still not heard a peep- Maths Oxford.

Xanum · 27/11/2021 20:25

No news is good news 🤞🤞🤞

carben · 27/11/2021 20:33

On the spreadsheet there's quite a few maths interviews coming out for Lady Margaret Hall now so I think this is the start for maths. New College must have just been one of the really early colleges.

Xanum · 27/11/2021 20:41

@carben @Puffalicious sounds about right. And we had an open application so might be why we heard early 🤷‍♀️

Thisisconfusing · 27/11/2021 20:44

My daughter heard about chemistry yesterday afternoon - she has an interview. A few of her friends still waiting to hear about English .

carben · 27/11/2021 20:59

@Xanum what A'Levels is your DS doing? My DD is doing maths, further maths, physics and computer science at a non-leafy comprehensive- no grammar schools.

Xanum · 27/11/2021 21:10

@carben DS is doing Maths, Further Maths, Physics & Biology at a kinda leafy FE College. All State.

NinaProudman2022 · 27/11/2021 21:45

The sentiment is obvious from your post @Letsgoforaskip.

Thank you

Darbs76 · 27/11/2021 21:49
