Thought I would start a new thread as part one is nearly full and found thread one to be of great support.

So its deadline week this week for our applicants then the nervous wait begins to find out of they have made it to interview. DD applying for HSPS at Cambridge. We know it is a long shot but got to be in it to win it and she is very keen to try. Looking at the admissions info it does not look as though she will need to sit a test prior but all the best to those who will have to.

Oh, good luck with all that! These big things are meant to be great for locations but at the time they cause chaos for ordinary citizens!

MistandMud · 24/10/2021 12:12

Annoyingly, I scanned the wrong history draft so scanned the one where he wrote 'feeded' and the teacher has put FED next to it... whoops...

Yes, but it's meant to be a marked piece of work, warts and all, isn't it? You don't want perfection.

('feeded' is quite toddler-level cute though!)

Piggywaspushed · 24/10/2021 12:20

They say that they don't have to be marked as they accept work might not be being marked in the same way at the mo. The other piece was marked.

What I scanned was a first draft and he did improve it based on feedback, and definitely did not write feeded!! Oh well...

@SayYouDontMind

I’m English (a Brummie!) with two kids born in Scotland. My DS decided not to change his 2 subject choices at St Andrew’s - we’ll see what happens. He’s focussing on his TSA Now. He’s watching videos, reading ‘So you Think you can Think’ book (thanks Hoghyni!) and counting off the days till Nov 4th. In the lap of the Gods now.

Sorry piggy that you didn’t get to Sheffield. I’m rather relieved we don’t have to visit anywhere. Even getting to school and back will be a nightmare these next few weeks because of Cop 26. The schools should have just decided to do ‘blended learning’ because it’s going to be a nightmare up here especially with the rail strike too!

I'm dreading getting to work starting tomorrow- teacher so not as if I can be flexi. All the 'leave more time for your journey' makes no sense when breakfast club for my youngest doesn't open until 8am.

DS already anxious about getting to the test centre for the MAT on time. Leaving hours before, super early in the morning, is not conducive to the best mindset! So annoyed about it.

Puffalicious · 24/10/2021 13:00

PS the book sounds interesting. Must have missed that. I'll check it out.

gnushoes · 24/10/2021 19:52

Checking in and place marking: DS applied for maths.

Puffalicious · 24/10/2021 19:54

gnushoes Oxford or Cambridge and which college?

ealingwestmum · 24/10/2021 20:33

I’m English (a Brummie!)

Looks like the Scottish move’s worked out well for you too Sayyoudontmind Smile

Hello all. Joining the thread again having dropped off somehow. My DD is applying for Music at O. She's had an offer already from York which is a nice boost.

I've just had a look at the website having left DD to it -- and was slightly horrified to see that she has to submit three pieces of written work by 10 November. She tells me that her teacher hasn't been at all interested in advising her what to submit so that is a new thing for me to fret about.

On a happier note she had a nice weekend in Oxford visiting a friend and staying with her big sister -- a new experience.

Horace123 · 25/10/2021 16:13

@ProggyMat and others with DC applying to Oxford to do classics - DS had an email from Oxford today asking for confirmation of what subjects he'd done (Greek, Latin, both, neither etc) and a few other things. It went to his junk folder even though we both thought we'd successfully "unjunked" everything UCAS related. So look out for it if your DC haven't received it yet. Suppose they are getting things ready for next week's entrance exams in terms of who needs to do which papers.

ProggyMat · 25/10/2021 16:19

@Horace123 was just about to tag you to say DD has received an email seeking confirmation of her languages Smile
Hopefully theyll receive an email from their chosen college requesting their written work soon too!

MareofBeasttown · 26/10/2021 08:38

DS got a low conditional offer from Nottingham for Economics which is a good thing to have on case he messes everything up!

doubleshotcappuccino · 26/10/2021 10:16

@MareofBeasttown congratulations to your DS :-) Nottingham looks like a great campus ..

ProggyMat · 26/10/2021 10:38

@Horace123 DD has received an email from the college she has replied to which mainly gives details on how to submit written work and other action points that need to be done by 10th November.

ProggyMat · 26/10/2021 10:40

*applied to

CowCat · 26/10/2021 10:58

DS submitted an open application to Oxford and has now been allocated a college to apply to.

Horace123 · 26/10/2021 11:06

Thanks so much @ProggyMat - no such email here yet but will keep an eye out and panic on Monday if still nothing. Hope your DD has been getting some revision done? Haven't had the best half term as DD has covid and DD and DH had some awful sick bug which has meant I've stayed away from the office. We all feel a bit cooped up. Gggrrr.

ProggyMat · 26/10/2021 11:20

@Horace123 I’m sure your DSs will come way before Monday! Some colleges were emailing yesterday.
Fingers crossed everyone in ‘the coop’ is feeling better soon!
DD is mainly revising on an evening as she has a part time job with extra hours this week.
She hasn’t gone into full revizilla mode ( which she’s prone to) as yet so I’m hoping that ‘all is in hand’ Grin

@MareofBeasttown

Likewise. Low offer from Liverpool (joint first/second choice) so good to have that in the bag if no offer comes from Oxford.
Piggywaspushed · 26/10/2021 11:41

What do you mean by 'low'? As in lower than standard?

MareofBeasttown · 26/10/2021 11:50

I should not have said "low". I just checked and it is the standard they offer on the website. A*ABB for 4 A levels. It just seemed low to me compared to Cambridge!

Notts is a beautiful campus, though it is DS' fifth choice. Hoping for his 2nd or 3rd choice ones to come through soon.

Piggywaspushed · 26/10/2021 11:53

Yes, you definitely had Oxbridge goggles on there! Grin

@Eightytwenty sorry about your ruined break - that is gutting. Hope none of you are particularly unwell?

SandyBayley · 26/10/2021 13:35

DD is also under the weather but it's not covid. She's well enough to focus on BMAT revision and IB coursework but not well enough to socialise. She's keen to be on good form for BMAT next week.
