Apologies if I've done this wrong! I seemed to have filled up the last thread, hopefully the abbreviated title is ok!

Ds has decided as sixth form is open at 8 but they will not hand out results until 8.30 he will just go and get his results at 8.30. No looking at track first, not even trying to log on. His grades for Durham entry are lower than his predicted so he feels it won't tell him what he wants to know.

Sixth form have emailed us, told us they stand by their process, that is has been quality assured by the examination boards and the head is confident in the grades. I do trust them. I know that it truly isn't a level playing field but what else can we do but to trust that the teachers have done their best with the information that they have?

I will say that Ds has swung the pendulum between it will be fine, to what if I get all Cs to at least some of them should be high grades, to I cannot remember how I felt I did on the exams. Luckily both he and us have just laughed our way through it, he knows it is ridiculous to speculate as he will have to wait until tomorrow. But fortunately he isn't weighed down mentally with it.

Good luck to everyone, not just the children getting their results but to everyone on here who will be going through it too. Thank you for all the support through this journey and hopefully everyone will be happy and celebrating tomorrow. Flowers

Just popping on (have been lurking for a while) to say good luck to everyone for tomorrow. Hopefully DS will be joining several others on here and go to Exeter. Have been getting frustrated re reading how the college said they were told to use 17, 18 and 2019 as a gauge for distribution of grades. If 45% have A and A* then this can't have been abided by and not picked up via moderation. Anyway I'm going to try and not dwell on it and instead am going off to the pub!

"@bendmeoverbackwards your school whilst they weren't permitted to tell the students the grades they were putting forward, should have told them which pieces of evidence would go towards the submitted final grade. So the students should have a reasonably good idea if they're on track for their grades."

@Pumpkintopf I think you are assuming that all schools worked on the same system. DS's school leaned heavily on one set of exams sat in May and didn't give marks for them, nor for NEAs, arguing that while they knew some schools were giving out such marks, they took the view that it was too close to the not-allowed telling of what overall grade had been put forward to the exam boards by the school. Knowing what evidence was put forward is not especially informative if one doesn't know what mark one got on such evidence.

So we are considerably more in the dark. I am hoping that DS's mutterings about "what if my PI" was really cr*p is neurosis rather than prophecy....

These are the previous years' stats.
Teacher (CAG) 2020 1st figures
Algorithm 2020 2nd figures
(these are the two 2020 grades)

Well, I’ve just had a message from DS. Mostly to show me a picture of the cauliflower, chickpea and onion bhaji pasty he’s having for dinner 🤣
He says all his ducks are lined up ready for tomorrow but I suspect that just means he has remembered his log in details for Track rather than actually having thought of plan B!
Eeek!
Here’s to peaceful (as possible) nights for us all.
Hang in there and ‘solidarity sisters’.

Pumpkintopf · 09/08/2021 20:32

@Revengeofthepangolins yes, that's fair - I agree if your DS's school is solely using assessments for which he doesn't know the marks it would be very difficult to know what to expect. It does seem as though schools and subjects differ in this - DS's school took the 'basket of evidence' method with the more recent more heavily weighted but the students did know their marks for all the pieces of evidence used.

SeasonFinale · 09/08/2021 21:59

Longtimenewsee · 09/08/2021 23:46

Night all.. no doubt I’ll be awake at the crack of dawn

Pumpkintopf · 09/08/2021 23:46

Think we are giving up here on Cambridge publishing their list of courses available for adjustment which was due 'late afternoon' today 😁.

Realistically we know there's a) not much likelihood of many if any places being available and b) ds might not get an offer even if his course is available- plus c) he genuinely might prefer London and Imperial at this stage so not too worried.

More worried about tomorrow morning! Fingers crossed for all the dcs and hope you all manage to get some sleep!

raspberryrippleicecream · 10/08/2021 00:46

Good luck tomorrow everyone

Pumpkintopf · 10/08/2021 07:37

Pumpkintopf · 10/08/2021 07:50

Morning @Tenpastseven how's everyone feeling at yours? DS is far more chilled than me and DH is snoring next to me still!

Good luck all!!!

Pumpkintopf · 10/08/2021 08:32
