Hopefully this is in the right place?

Thanks for finding it chopc. Looks like it’s just info to me?

chopc · 19/01/2021 20:09

My DC is a dual national - I can't recall if he put that in UCAS though. Also some thinks it may have gone to people who ticked the scholarship box in the SAQ? Again I don't know if DC did

CosmicComfort · 19/01/2021 20:22

De-lurking here to shout from the rooftops that DS1 got an offer from Oxford last week. He’s a funny kid and while I cried and told everyone I met, he just shrugged . I think he is pleased but more relieved in a way as he would have been disappointed if he hadn’t got an offer.

He’s a really bright boy at a very bog standard comprehensive with very average results so I am super proud of him and so grateful to the school for all their hard work with him.

No idea which college, getting information out of him is tricky!

chopc · 19/01/2021 20:43

@CosmicComfort many congratulations to you and your DS!

LonelyBlueBauble · 19/01/2021 21:05

Discord is a chat thing, you can set your own groups up like Whatsapp, we use it as a family ie me, Dh, the kids. I can message each child individually or as a pair as I have set them up that way. They have their own groups on there too with friends and for different friendships for certain games.

You can also voice chat and video chat on it too. I have it on my phone and on my laptop. There are other Discord groups that you can join in the wider community.

CosmicComfort · 19/01/2021 21:08

@chopc thank you so much🥰💐

Millylovespuddles · 19/01/2021 21:32

@CosmicComfort I found your post a little insensitive. Maybe it's just me and you touched a nerve, but there, got it off my chest.

DahliaMacNamara · 19/01/2021 21:43

Well done to Cosmic's DS. DD is from a bog standard comp too, and I feel the same. I'm not allowed to shout it from the rooftops in case she doesn't meet her offer for whatever reason, so it's a good thing I won't be seeing anybody.

Chilldonaldchill · 19/01/2021 21:45

@CosmicComfort, congratulations to your son. It's lovely to hear positive stories.

LaundryFairy · 19/01/2021 21:53

Congratulations to your DS @CosmicComfort! What subject will he be doing?

Hoghgyni · 19/01/2021 21:55

It's a safe place to shout Cosmic. You really do need to find out which College though.

Beetlesand · 19/01/2021 22:00

Congrats to your ds @CosmicComfort.

LaundryFairy · 19/01/2021 22:10

@Millylovespuddles I hope that your DD's next interview went well (yesterday if I remember correctly?) It must be so hard being in the drawn out limbo of waiting to hear on other Med applications.

MatureStudent21 · 19/01/2021 22:41

Congratulations @CosmicComfort!!!

ChimneyPot · 19/01/2021 23:54

@CosmicComfort Well done to your DS

derekthe1adyhamster · 20/01/2021 08:36

@cosmicComfort Great news on this dreary Tuesday. This is a lovely safe space to share news (good or bad)

pepperaunt · 20/01/2021 09:07

DD just got an offer from Imperial for 3 A*
Is this normal for Imperial?

Majaso12 · 20/01/2021 09:16

What subject is that pepperaunt? My dd has an offer of A*AA for biochemistry when I’ve seen on student room quite a few with offers of AAA for biochemistry.

Pumpkintopf · 20/01/2021 09:56

That's interesting pepperaunt. Waiting to hear from Imperial here (Physics) - standard offer is A star A star A for that. Kind of assumed they would be waiting for the UCAS deadline now before sending offers- perhaps not! Would be nice to hear from them (with good news) before the Cambridge decision... 🤞

Pumpkintopf · 20/01/2021 10:03

Someone on TSR has said their dc got a higher than standard offer - wonder if this is going to be a 'thing' how with TAG to limit numbers?! Otherwise why would the offer be higher than standard?

My son got an offer last night for physics - higher requirements than expected: AAA. He's a UK student and is predicted 4xA

Pumpkintopf · 20/01/2021 10:04

That's me quoting the TSR post btw - we've still not heard anything here! Grin

WarmAndco3y · 20/01/2021 10:27

@CosmicComfort and @pepperaunt congratulations to your DC on their offers.

chopc · 20/01/2021 10:33

Update on the email Cambridge sent out yesterday. Source is student room and I haven't fact checked

Entry requirements on Imperial website are minimum requirements. I emailed admissions beginning of January and they said in a competitive admissions cycle, offers would be in the range of AAA-A*AA. Offers vary from applicant to applicant but are based on the information provided on the UCAS form; generally applicants with higher predicted grades will receive higher offer conditions. I’ve seen on student room others predicted the same as dd with a lower offer though.

That seems likely. I've not heard of 3A star offers from imperial before, but three Astars and an A (versus 'standard' two Astars and an A) have been pretty common at Cambridge for engineering and NatSci for several years anyway.
