Following on from the previous thread as our young adults start their second year at universities up and down the land (and some overseas too!).

Thanks @mum2eim I forgot that Amazon do food too so that is a good recommendation. Another option is Deliveroo - they do groceries now too & no need to pre book

sergeantmajormum · 21/10/2020 16:13

I’ve sent paracetamol and ibuprofen via Lloyds pharmacy online.

sergeantmajormum · 21/10/2020 16:21

And vitamins 😂

Decorhate · 21/10/2020 17:05

@sergeantmajormum Thanks!

Decorhate · 21/10/2020 17:09

Just looked on the Lloyds Pharmacy website & they do same day delivery through Deliveroo (obv not in all areas). Good to have that back up

sergeantmajormum · 21/10/2020 17:24

Yes I used them when my DD had toothache at start of pandemic and chemists were sold out.....and I was abroad 😂

olliepolly · 21/10/2020 19:15

DD2 will soon be finished self isolating. She raised the possibility of coming home for reading week. Anyone else considering this. I’m just not sure. She is in a tier 1 area we are in tier 2 though some discussion in press re raising this to tier 3. Any thoughts ?

Decorhate · 21/10/2020 19:22

Did she have Covid or was it just her housemate?

I know Ds was a bit worried he might have infected us as he had been home recently but the timing would indicate not.

I think that is something that would worry lots of our kids so a factor to take into account.

olliepolly · 21/10/2020 19:51

She didn’t have Covid , her housemate did . Only 1 of 6 in her house had it so far.

simbobs · 21/10/2020 22:44

I think I would feel more welcoming if DC had already had it, but in all honesty would find it hard to tell them not to come back. DH is vulnerable, though, so he is really worried.

JennyWreny · 22/10/2020 00:04

One of DDs housemates received a text from Test and Trace today telling her she had to isolate for 6 days. Seems very short amount of time - presumably as a result of someone's +ve test result taking a long time or someone not testing when they first had symptoms. I can't think of any other reason why it would be so short.

They have had an email from the uni saying more learning will be online starting in the next few weeks. The college bar where she works is reducing their hours/staffing and some muttering about the possibility of York going into Tier 3.

Alicatz66 · 22/10/2020 08:55

@olliepolly .. my DS is coming home for a few days in reading week. I'm pretty sure he's had it in Feb ! He had a test a couple of weeks ago and was negative... I was tested last week and was negative... his house are being pretty sensible .. they aren't going out much .. looks like they are watching telly a lot as they use my Netflix !!!... and he is taking the old Nintendo Will back with him !..

Benjispruce2 · 22/10/2020 16:27

Don’t think DD has reading week but even if she did I wouldn’t really want her to come back. There have been too many cases around her and can’t risk being off work unless she absolutely needed to be home for her mental health. She wouldn’t want to anyway, far more fun up there, even in tier 2!

bigTillyMint · 23/10/2020 14:30

@Benjispruce2, I don’t think DS has one either. He spends all his time reading stuff for his essays anyway Grin

We are going to see him on Sunday - so looking forward to it Smile

mum2eim · 23/10/2020 16:54

We are hoping to see DD the end of next week but our area is probably going into tier 3 sometime then too Hmm. She’s so looking forward to seeing us. The workload has ramped up so much and she’s been a bit stressed she just wants to touch base with her siblings.

eggsontoast2 · 23/10/2020 17:07

It's not been easy trying to keep kids motivated at the moment. I've for sure struggled however just trying to find activities online that they can use to keep them interested in a subject without them thinking they are doing all the work! Especially if Lockdown pt2 is happening trying to get them signing into online lessons everyday is hardwork!

Just a quick share with everyone - found some great Maths resources on www.wisemindsescaperooms.com that you might also want to use. They're Maths based escape games that you can complete at home and don't need a printer.

Piggywaspushed · 23/10/2020 17:26

So, DS seems to have already sorted out a house for next year. Bigger, nicer more expensive.

Jano69 · 23/10/2020 18:02

Oooh that's exciting Piggy, very organised. I'm guessing DS will keep his second year house for next year too. He'll need to make his mind up quickly.

Piggywaspushed · 23/10/2020 18:53

Yes, I think they are moving fast because they want to beat first years to it. It was certainly true last year that stuff went very quickly because 2nd years stayed on in their houses or got new stuff.

simbobs · 23/10/2020 22:02

Oh no, DS won't have thought about that at all yet. They have only just got settled in this year!

Decorhate · 23/10/2020 22:08

Ds is hoping to do a placement year next year so in theory no need to find a house for next year. I’m not convinced placements will go ahead though.

VanCleefArpels · 23/10/2020 23:02

We got the guarantor forms etc today for next year! They are staying out which I’m delighted about as it’s a great house. They can also personalise a bit more now they know they are staying long term

simbobs · 24/10/2020 00:29

My DS was meant to be doing a placement year, too, but things have been so disjointed and the usual contacts are not in place, so I have no idea what is happening. For students a year above they were just given the option of doing a 3 year degree rather than four, but I'm sure it will impact job prospects.

Ginfordinner · 24/10/2020 08:51

I'm not sure what DD is going to do for next year. Their landlord is begging them to stay, but the girls would quite like to offload the two boys, and a couple of the girls are hoping to do a year abroad next year.

bigTillyMint · 24/10/2020 11:37

Crikey, no idea what DS is planning to do. Hopefully stay put Grin
