Hope you don't mind - people have pent up comments about cheese graters and traffic cones to get out of their system!

@Benjispruce 😂 now why didn't I think of that!!

@bigTillyMint - No mention of the races but he did send pictures of the Durham v Northumberland Rugby match last Wed.

simbobs · 21/10/2019 22:17

I really must ask my DS whether he has done any washing yet. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he has just been out and bought more pants and socks.

MrKlaw · 22/10/2019 16:13

second parcel sent to DS at Bath (first from us, other was a welcome gift from my sister). The one from us seemed to not arrive - apparantly it should be at the collection centre after failing to be delivered, but they should all be delivered to a central location which the PO should know?

Hope this is only a one-off, need the post to be reliable

That’s not good @MrKlaw. I may need to post ds’ contact lens to him

bigTillyMint · 22/10/2019 16:28

@MrKlaw, it seemed that the card I sent to DS took 2 weeks, but more likely down to him not checking properly! DD had a few things she had to pick up from the PO which was a complete pain.

Benjispruce · 22/10/2019 17:52

@bigTillymint We sent DD a small parcel the first week. Something she’d ordered that arrived later than stated. It arrived in 2 days. Was UPS though through DH’s office.

Benjispruce · 22/10/2019 17:54

Spoke to DD earlier while she was walking to a lecture. She’s still out every night. Is this the norm?

bigTillyMint · 22/10/2019 18:07

@Benjispruce, I think DS may be doing similar... DD definitely was in her first year.
Don't know who they take after Grin

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 22/10/2019 18:31

DS doesn't seem to have got any letters we've sent him, despite them being addressed correctly (or so we thought). One was a Nando's gift card. How difficult is it to ensure post gets to the right people?

ZandathePanda · 22/10/2019 18:55

Feeling sorry for myself as I have Freshers Flu courtesy of Dd who was home for the weekend. I have an extremely sore throat and I am bright red. :(
She’s feeling a bit better. :)

BorisInAnExecutionersMask · 22/10/2019 19:14

DD also now has freshers flu (which she also spread to us at the weekend), made worse as someone has drunk all her milk.

We've told her to ask to use someone else's tonight (possibly whoever drank hers Hmm) and offer to replace it tomorrow morning. It wouldn't be so bad but the student union shop (supposed to shut at 6pm) seems to shut no later than 3pm daily (law unto itself), and the nearest supermarket is an hours round trip. They're a decent lot in her flat (milk stealers aside Wink) so would definitely lend her enough for a hot chocolate, but she's not the type to ask.

Luckily I had the foresight to put a supply of strepsils and cold/flu tablets in her first aid kit.

simbobs · 22/10/2019 19:51

@Benjispruce, I'm pretty sure I never stayed in when I was at uni. Still got all my work done, though.

Jano69 · 22/10/2019 20:32

We sent a big box of food over last week - DS got it within a couple of and was very appreciative.

@Benjispruce @bigTillyMint Must be a Durham thing, DS out loads still and absolutely shattered. He is surviving on very little sleep and now talking about coming home for a weekend for a much needed rest.

@BorisInAnExecutionersMask @ZandathePanda Get better soon!

WaxOnFeckOff · 22/10/2019 20:48

DS had freshers flu last month and came home on a visit after 2 weeks and still had a cold and sore throat. I suspect it was one thing after another. He was also supplied with strepsils etc before he left. We sent him back with multivitamins to hopefully boost himself back up.

Post wise we've sent a few things and have generally always turned up next day, except his replacement desperately wanted bank card of course which was posted first class on a Thursday and didn't turn up until the monday. I'd posted a parcel first class at the same time and it turned up on the Friday.

I've had a few Amazon things delivered directly to him and also a couple of Sainsburys shopping deliveries.

As for milk and bread, the flat apparently have a "system". I think they chuck a few quid in each week and they take turns to pick up when at the shops. DS also has a few spare cartons of long life milk for emergencies. It tastes fine but not great for cooking with.

Tinseltrauma · 22/10/2019 23:53

@Jano69 @bigTillyMint @Benjispruce I also suspect it might be a Durham thing. DS is still out most evenings though not always clubbing. College bar, cinema etc, and a house tour last night! I think it's a bit early for that but he seems to have a fairly chilled group of friends so I'm not interfering.

HoldMyLobster · 23/10/2019 02:55

Spoke to DD earlier while she was walking to a lecture. She’s still out every night. Is this the norm?

I was out every night till about halfway through term, then I suddenly realised how much work I had, and how little work I had, and everything calmed down a lot.

DD is in two bands now. One has rehearsals every day 5-7pm, and either rehearsals or performances at the weekend. The other has rehearsals three days a week 9-11pm. I have absolutely no idea how she's surviving.

HoldMyLobster · 23/10/2019 02:56

...how little work money I had...

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 23/10/2019 08:51

Do you think the collegiate system lends itself more easily to regular socialising? I suspect it does.

Hope you feel better soon @ZandathePanda.

ZandathePanda · 23/10/2019 10:35

NewModel thankyou haven’t got it as bad as Dd but it’s a nasty. Don’t want to pass it on further!

bengalcat · 23/10/2019 12:01

I’m waiting to hear how the Chemsoc three legged pub crawl went last night

bigTillyMint · 23/10/2019 13:34

@NewModelArmyMayhem18, DD is not in a collegiate system and nor was I, but we socialised a lot... Grin

Ginfordinner · 23/10/2019 14:13

DD socialises a lot, but doesn't necessarily go out:

They don't have enough money
The weather has been truly awful
Her course is very time consuming with loads of contact hours
She hates clubs
She has CFS and needs lots of sleep

Benjispruce · 23/10/2019 15:40

I’m grateful that she’s catered so eating well, in 3 sport teams and has joined the gym. All of that on top of studies and socialising would floor me. Oh to be young again.

bigTillyMint · 23/10/2019 15:53

Youre right Gin, socialising doesnt have to cost money or even involve going out out.
But mine arent getting extra money to socialise - DS worked in the summer to save money, as did DD who works whilst at uni too. Plus DD and her mates seem to do prees then for drink in the club. Or go to a Spoons. Hopefully we'll find out what DS has been doing when we see him tomorrow Smile

Benjispruce · 23/10/2019 15:56

My DD is funding her own social life too. Have fun @bigTillymint!
