Hope you don't mind - people have pent up comments about cheese graters and traffic cones to get out of their system!

Oh and the east coast main line is shut on Saturday 14th pm to Sunday 15th am. Great timing!

Benjispruce · 11/10/2019 20:35

It’s a bargain but yes 6.5 hrs then we are about an hour north of London. Shame it doesn’t stop on the way as she’s be passing home on the way! Can’t see any train tickets less than £84 online at the moment.

simbobs · 11/10/2019 20:37

DS has been homeward bound to see mates rather than us. DD never came back during term time, though was much further away, but we went to stay with family fairly close to her in Feb and Oct half terms, so she came over to see us.
I'm quite happy for them not to come home as long as they keep in touch.

ZandathePanda · 11/10/2019 20:45

Benji even with a railcard Shock?

Benjispruce · 11/10/2019 20:51

Yes that’s with railcard(return) Without, it’s over £120! Ridiculous considering you can fly to the continent for less.

ZandathePanda · 11/10/2019 20:55
Shock
ZandathePanda · 11/10/2019 21:00

Dd knows a lot of people in Newcastle that are from Northern Ireland. She says it’s £100 return flight to Belfast.

Piggywaspushed · 11/10/2019 21:36

DS is back .... looking fairly healthy and not smelly!

He says his friend, who went off to Keele last week is already dropping out.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 11/10/2019 21:53

DS hasn't stopped talking since he walked through the door!!! Looking good and much more confident than when we last saw him!

Ginfordinner · 11/10/2019 22:06

DD's new Newcastle buddies are from all over the place.

Benjispruce · 11/10/2019 22:09

That’s great @Piggywaspushed and @NewModelArmyMayhem18 enjoy the weekend.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 11/10/2019 22:15

Dd has declared that she would rather stay at uni over christmas than get the train or coach home.
Wasn't aware I had raised a snowflake!

Decorhate · 11/10/2019 22:23

@Ginfordinner Ds says around half his flatmates are international students. His uni is not exactly in a multicultural area so it’s good he is getting a chance to meet people from all over.

MumMcMumface · 11/10/2019 23:37

@DrMadelineMaxwell. Are you OK with that?

MissConductUS · 11/10/2019 23:55

I'm about to go pick up DS from the train. Monday is a federal holiday, so he'll go back Monday night. Can't wait to see him! DD has a crew race tomorrow and he'll go to that with her, then Sunday my lovely MIL, who has very generously supported his uni costs, is coming over for dinner. So quite a full weekend coming up.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 12/10/2019 07:06

@MissConductUS have a good extended weekend with your DS too!

Oh dear to friend of your DS dropping out from Keele already @Piggywaspushed. Hoping you have a good weekend!

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 12/10/2019 07:08

And have a lovely weekend with your DS too @justasking111.

Sorry if inadvertently overlooked anyone - enjoy your DC to all of you catching up with them today/tomorrow/Monday.

bigTillyMint · 12/10/2019 07:28

@DrMadelineMaxwell, is that because she is a long way from home? She will change her tune by Christmas WinkSmile

simbobs · 12/10/2019 07:34

My DD is currently at uni abroad and has only a week off, so I am hoping that she won't decide to stay there for Xmas. She only booked a single ticket as she wasn't sure about term dates at the time. You have just reminded me that I need to to prompt her to book her flight home.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 12/10/2019 07:52

I'm assuming @DrMadelineMaxwell meant that her DD would want to be picked up by car rather than using public transport??

AvillageinProvence · 12/10/2019 08:15

I suppose dropping out quickly isn't necessarily negative - it depends on the reasons. If the student realises that they hadn't really realised what the course involved, or just decides they'd prefer to do something else, it might be all to the good to drop out asap. If it's due to accommodation issues, or not settling in socially straight away, or even that the course is not as described, that is much more of a negative experience.

Hope your ds's friend is not too down about it Piggy, and finds something else rewarding.

minesawine · 12/10/2019 08:57

I got Nottingham to Kings x London by train for £32 return with a railcard. Thought it was a great bargain, not so sure now after reading your posts Confused

Benjispruce · 12/10/2019 09:01

Had a FaceTime chat with DD last night. She was having her first night ‘in’ since she went on 29/9. She has serious fear of missing out so will always say yes to every night out on offer. I’m glad she’s realised she can’t do that forever.
I managed to get answers to my burning questions. Yes, she has got access to her online banking now and her loan was paid in. Still no accommodation invoice though. She has had many lectures and seminars and is loving the subject and her chosen extra module. She’s joined the gym, a college netball team, cheerleading squad and having a go at lacrosse as she’s never played it before. She’s also done some laundry and used the airer(that she didn’t want ) as there are rumours that the dryers are over zealous and she doesn’t want miniature clothes. I think it’s probably a case of students not reading labels properly. Hmm

Benjispruce · 12/10/2019 09:03

*Overzealous

bigTillyMint · 12/10/2019 09:12

@Benjispruce, mixed lacrosse? DS is going to try that i think Grin
Also pleased to hear you haven't had an invoice for accom yet. DS wasn't planning a night in last night.... He may have gone for a night out with DGodS who is at Newcastle....
Also doubt he's done any washing. Must warn him about the dryers/jumpers Shock
