On the positive side, Dd has started packing and says that she is only going to take the absolute minimum needed - let's see😊

Apparently, clothes one suitcase and the rest in a box and that's it !!!

ProfessorLayton1 · 19/09/2019 08:15

@piggy- glad to know that your DS is settling down and has found someone to spend time with.

Ginfordinner · 19/09/2019 08:24

Last Brownies for DD tonight

sergeantmajormum · 19/09/2019 08:25

DD2 seems happy and settling in Liverpool, tho pretty tired after lots of nights out! Says all her flat mates are lovely! Hope she can find the right balance of fun and work once lectures start (medicine so heavy timetable). She has FaceTimed once and few texts but she’s not the most communicative, tho I think we’d hear if there was an issue, just trying to establish her independence I guess. Tough on us left at home keen to hear all the news!!
DD1 goes back to uni on Sunday so expecting next week to feel odd and rather too quiet.

MrKlaw · 19/09/2019 08:44

I'm thinking of making a 'sad' playlist to get it all out of me tomorrow before we head off.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 19/09/2019 08:48

We dropped DD off at Glocs last sat, she has messaged a few times to say she is absolutely loving it. I’m so relieved.

She said her flat mates are lovely, the area is amazing and she seems to be enjoying freshers week. She was never much of a drinker at home but seems to be throwing herself into it there.

I miss her but I’m thrilled she’s so happy.

Some of ds's friends have gone, but it doesn't seem to have cut down the number of night's out required. He stayed with gf last night and I really need him to come and pack now. My washing machine saga is still ongoing with delivery of the new one being put back again, so off to laundrette - again.

Ds casually let me know on way the Ikea that he is taking his whole computer, not just his laptop, as well as guitar (but only one of them) and amp. We are resigned to there being room in the car for only 1 parent anyway, and I am going rather than dh.

We only got to see the accommodation handbook yesterday, so some of the stuff bought in Ikea may be superfluous. Think I'll keep it anyway - can't face another trip.

Trewser · 19/09/2019 09:18

So. Much. Stuff

And she forgot her hockey stick.

Hoping there will be ones she can borrow until we visit in October.

Chillywhippet · 19/09/2019 09:22

Trewser my DD and DH are probably just arriving at Bay now.
I hope you and your DD have a good day.
My DD is in a musical so has to come back for shows this evening and tomorrow so I will take her back Saturday. A bit bitty bless her but she wanted to move in on moving day and then say see you Saturday. I was hoping she would get Saturday as her moving in day but no, it’s todayConfused

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 19/09/2019 09:32

@Chillywhippet they had an early start. What a PITA her having to go, come back again and then go up again. @Trewser good luck to you and your DD.

@Piggywaspushed how did the football watching session go for your DS and new friend?

Not sure there will be many of DS's team's supporters at UEA but advised him to take his football shirt - it's a very easy way to identify at least having one interest in common!

Atia I can imagine my son forgetting his shoes!!

Clankboing · 19/09/2019 09:44

Good luck for today Trewser!

Chillywhippet · 19/09/2019 10:33

New that’s what happens when you apply through clearing, last minute, not expecting an offer, then not expecting accommodation and then you get both so you have to go but the rest of your life has not been planned around uni this year.

It’s not how she likes to do things but she is going with it so fingers crossed 🤞 for everyone’s DC.

I know from DC1 that it is weird not knowing where or how they are at first but it does get better with time FlowersBrewWine for anyone feeling 😭

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 19/09/2019 10:47

@Chillywhippet good that it's all worked out in the end!

Piggy that sounds positive. Hopefully they exchanged numbers!

Good luck to everyone going to uni in the next few days. Good weekend weatherwise for it.

Ragwort · 19/09/2019 11:02

I am slowly losing the will to live .... for weeks I have been asking DS to check his emails, is there anything else he needs to do admin wise (he goes tomorrow) .... he finally looked this morning and of course there is a load of info to be completed! And more washing .... despite me clearly saying yesterday was the last full day to wash and dry ..... I think back to when I went to uni, it all seemed so much simpler and far less input from my parents.

TailsoftheManyPaws · 19/09/2019 11:07

Has anybody's ds or dd forgotten to take anything or realised that something would have been useful?

Good idea not to leave your phone on charge till the last minute, then grab the phone and leave the charger still plugged in!

Useful thing added at last moment: a sharpie to label the milk etc in the fridge. Post-its to lay claim to a kitchen cupboard/put a name on your door would have been handy, as that's what some of the other students had done.

Chillywhippet · 19/09/2019 11:08

Happy young person (not that you can see!) at Swansea Bay Campus. Yes it is actually on the beach.

Chillywhippet · 19/09/2019 11:10

Sorry for double post

Trewser · 19/09/2019 11:29

Lovely chilly!

hellsbells99 · 19/09/2019 11:32

For those of you whose DCs have not gone yet, if they are eligible for a flu vaccine see if they can get it done now. DD2 has one due to asthma and I have just phoned up my local pharmacy who have said they can do it tomorrow.
sergeantmajormum my DDs were in Liverpool last night joining in a freshers night out - Liverpool is great.
Chillywhippet fabulous picture!

icanbewhatiwant · 19/09/2019 11:44

@TailsoftheManyPaws yes...I saw a sharpie in ds's drawer and thought that'll do for labelling food, so packed into his stationary box.

justasking111 · 19/09/2019 11:55

Will chase DS up about flu jab, he had flu back in May, ended up on antibiotics, nearly hospitalised. Where can he have it done Boots?

hellsbells99 · 19/09/2019 11:56

yes Boots is one of the ones that does NHS flu jabs.
DD is having hers at our local pharmacy.
