Something that might be useful, I sent it this morning Grin

LOL just our family messenger chat is mostly

“Anyone know the Netflix password”
“No”
“Tell me”
🤷‍♀️
“Where’s mum. Is she with you???”

HoldMyLobster · 19/09/2019 12:35

@HoldMyLobster how is your DD getting on? I think travelling with two bags is entirely sensible as is as students here used to do too.

She's getting on really well. She did buy some stuff once she got there - laundry basket, hangers, desk lamp, that sort of thing. She just waited to see what she'd really need. She does need to get hold of her cold weather gear at some point but I think either we'll bring it out to her, or she can grab it next time she's home.

lobster, Have you checked that he is allowed the amp? DS's accommodation doesn't allow amplified speakers etc (although someone was playing v loud music when we turned up!). Drum kits also not allowed in accommodation.

That's a very good point!

HoldMyLobster · 19/09/2019 12:37

I think DD will probably be pretty good about getting the flu shot - flu went through her boarding school last year and she saw how sick some of the other students got. They ended up closing the school for a week.

simbobs · 19/09/2019 12:59

My ds is being very naive about the need to label things. DD used her leftover stickers from school and had her name on everything. He claims not to need pens as he will just type everything!

I swear boys just don't read their messages. It turns out that he has been seeking flatmates in the wrong complex- he's in the one next door! Duh!

Still not packed anything...

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 19/09/2019 13:20

DDs flatmates are all sending each other photos of their packing 😁 the girls seem to be over-packing whilst the boys are under-packing...

Our car (I've had to start putting stuff in it) will be very very full. I'm starting to wish we had a bigger one. We've taken a few things out but I'm still not entirely sure it'll all fit.

DD is stressing out a bit today, I think it's all starting to feel very real.

CointreauVersial · 19/09/2019 13:36

Ugh...have belatedly had back the last of DD1's Geography re-marks. No change. So that's £150 spent, and she will remain 1 mark off a B. Sad Every story I read on here seems to indicate success in re-marks, so I guess we're the exception that proves the rule.

Gearing up for Saturday departure...the heap of stuff gets larger.

GaraMedouar · 19/09/2019 13:39

Off early Sat morning. D'S still needs to pack, got to get suitcases down from the loft today. He has refused to go onto Facebook to link up with others in his block. I do worry about him, hopefully the rest in his flat will be friendly. Yikes, so close. I'm going to be knackered though, 4 hours drive each way.

icanbewhatiwant · 19/09/2019 13:48

I would have liked ds to have a flu jab. I looked at boots online several weeks ago. They all start giving the vaccine next week. So I didn't book it, I was hoping he could have it done before leaving for university. I can't see him going into the city to get the jab done. He's never had flu so he doesn't know how ill he could get.

Decorhate · 19/09/2019 14:01

I saw this article on social media. I’m not sure I can cope with the idea of mine never living at home again! Living in an expensive area for renting, I think it’s likely they will return for a while after uni

MrsPellegrinoPetrichor · 19/09/2019 14:04

Lots of happy texts from ds, loves his room and has bought a house plant ,I asked what sort and he said 'the green sort' Grin

MrsPellegrinoPetrichor · 19/09/2019 14:09

They all decide to have an early night last night,so cooked and played cards at the house. Too much partying . Glad he's being sensible.

GaraMedouar · 19/09/2019 14:21

My DB and I never returned home after our uni courses. DB stayed in the city he was in, I returned close to home but straightaway rented a room in a shared house. My dad was Victorian (well, very nearly that old) so after 4 years at uni I couldn’t go back to living under same roof again! I don’t expect DS to come home - we live in a bit of a rural place, I just don’t think he’d find the opportunities here after his degree. I fully expect this is it - of course I’m hoping he’ll be home in the holidays.

GinandManic · 19/09/2019 14:26

Cf31 has finally got her act together and almost finished packing and hopefully completed all her admin.
She's gone off to the beach for a few hours as a final farewell with her friends that havnt gone yet. I think they all.go this weekend.
Meanwhile I'm left looking at a mountain of stuff in wondering how the hell I will fit it in the car. I've just popped out for more vacuum bags in a desperate attemot ro shrinkna few things. Im under ayruct insyructiins to not start loading thw car until she gets back layer as she has "a few more bits to squeeze in".
I'm actually to embarrassed to share a pic of our uni mountain but it's big!!

GinandManic · 19/09/2019 14:30

My other dd (went to uni last weekend) tried to get her flu jab last week and was told the new season jab wasn't available yet so it would be the same vaccine as last year. Was told to wait until start of October.

Gandalfsstaff · 19/09/2019 14:59

Thanks to all for an enlightening thread over the last few months. Lots of tips taken on board.

Pleased to hear that there are other DCs who are quiet non drinking types.

hellsbells99 · 19/09/2019 15:02

GinandManic I phoned my local pharmacy this morning and they said they had just got the vaccine in earlier than expected. So DDs are booked in for tomorrow. My mother's first flu jab clinic is not for 3 weeks at her local GP.

Trewser · 19/09/2019 16:28

She's gone! Swansea looked beautiful in the sunshine and I felt quite envious. Dd is nervous as she doesn't know what to do with her time, we left her chatting to a flatmate so fingers crossed. I feel absolutely fine at the moment but might have a bit of a wobble when i get home...

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 19/09/2019 16:31

Well done @Trewser and what a fab way to start with a meander down onto the beach! Hope you are okay?

Swansea is really a beautiful place and the people are lovely!
Good luck to your Dd @ Trewser

GinandManic · 19/09/2019 16:47

I'm near Swansea, Just along the coast. It's been a beautiful day here. Dd has spent it at the beach with her friends today before setting off for Nottingham tomorrow.
Just waiting for dd to come home so she can help loading the car. Not sure its going to fit.

Trewser · 19/09/2019 16:52

Sadly rain is forecast from sunday onwards for days and days Sad

Witchend · 19/09/2019 16:54

I didn't come back from uni because I got married. Dd1 is almost exactly the same age as I was when I met dh. (although my birthday is later in the year).
That is a really scary thought. Grin

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 19/09/2019 17:32

Oh dear @Trewser, that's not very useful when DS has 2 1/2 field trips lined up for his course next week.

Wow @Witchend history could repeat itself!

DS has just packed his rather nice walking boots which he only wore for his Yr 12 school trips abroad. He thought they were his CCF boots, he's not seen them for so long! Thankfully they still fit him - phew!
