If anyone goes to IKEA look out for my will to live there. I lost it part way round this morning. 😁

Benjispruce · 13/09/2019 15:46

DD is not thinking about her room situation at the moment. Wish I could do that, been on my mind all day at work.
Got her HSBC card etc today so that answers that. Why the branch visits?

ifonly4 · 13/09/2019 15:50

drsausage which uni did your DD go to? Am I right in assuming she's come from Europe? I don't envy you that journey, mind you 45% of students at DD's uni come from outside of UK/EU.

We drove, splitting it up enroute so we were relaxed rather than stressed for drop off.

DD took a 100l case for clothes and packed shoes and two warm coats separately. Much to my surprise there was room for everything despite sharing a room.

Santander didn't have an appointment for DD before she left. She then realised she could submit id online, they've obviously accepted it as a card has come through here.

Benjispruce · 13/09/2019 15:54

Also the HSBC card just says debit card and came without anything pertaining to it being a student account. Is that what the rest of you have had?
Re GP - DD did all that online too- scanned her forms.
Tilly did your DS not have the men jab at school?

She's gone to Chicago and we live in northern New England, so it's a bit of a journey. Could have been worse! One of her classmates has gone to Glasgow and others to the west coast US.

I think the postal service and Amazon Prime will become our close friends Grin

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 13/09/2019 16:01

HSBC debit card came first and then about a week later the PIN number and assorted other bumpf arrived.

Oh right thanks new and does the card just say debit card?

Benjispruce · 13/09/2019 16:13

Also Tilly not sure if you’ve seen it but on YouTube there is a video from a student at Collingwood giving a tour of her single en-suite room. Incidentally she didn’t ask for it either.Envy

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 13/09/2019 16:20

I've just been having a sort out (trying to pack things in a sensible fashion so we don't accidentally leave anything). I'm starting to wonder if we will fit it all in the car....... Grin

And I know, if it doesn't fit into the car, it's not going to fit into her room!

RedHelenB · 13/09/2019 16:34

So were all packed up just need to load the car tomorrow morning and off we go! Shes chatted online to two of her flatmates, they're all northerners so they'll have that in common!

MrKlaw · 13/09/2019 16:39

You HSBCers - when do you get account num/sort code? DS has his account approved but no card yet and he says he can't see account/sort anywhere.

we need them both for SFE updating and also for us to set up our standing order for his living expenses.

Benjispruce · 13/09/2019 16:41

Still 2 weeks here! DD is bored as finished her job now.
ifonly. It’s not cheaper to share. I suspect that if it was , they would have a list of students to choose from.

Benjispruce · 13/09/2019 16:42

Mrklaw DD applied online last week and got card today. Account number and sort code on there. PIN to follow.

Bouledeneige · 13/09/2019 16:52

We are all packed up too - food shop done earlier. Just need to load the car in the morning. Tonight we are going out for a special curry at the posh place she worked at earlier in the summer.

Alicatz66 · 13/09/2019 16:53

DS not even bothered to find his flat mates at Nottingham.... I'm more interested than him !! Said it was complicated to do and he'd just meet them when he got there !!!

icanbewhatiwant · 13/09/2019 16:53

@Benjispruce my ds's hsbc just says debit card too.

bigTillyMint · 13/09/2019 16:57

@MrsPellegrinoPetrichor only 1 bag??? DD has at least 3 big suitcases worth, not even counting all the trainers. I am hoping DS will have less, but has loads of trainers plus his sports gear...

Benjispruce · 13/09/2019 16:58

Thanks icanbe

Benjispruce · 13/09/2019 17:01

Check out that video then Tilly for wardrobe size.

bigTillyMint · 13/09/2019 17:01

@Benjispruce, he must have missed it. He was ill most of Y11 if it was then? Thanks for the video tip - will search it up. Sounds like a bizarre way of allocating rooms there Confused
Also he has to go in to HSBC to verify his identity???

VioletCharlotte · 13/09/2019 17:02

My DS is off to Winchester Sunday. We've been getting last minute bits and pieces today. He's not started packing his clothes yet. He's so excited and just wants to get there. He's not bothered to find his flat mates either Alicatz. Like your DS, he says he'll meet them when he gets there.

icanbewhatiwant · 13/09/2019 17:03

My son doesn't have more than a large suitcase full of clothes even if he took everything he has. He's never been bothered about clothes. He has one pair of trainers and one pair of smart shoes. Are we in the minority? I have suggested he go and buy another pair of trainers as the ones he has are red. He only has tomorrow left to go as working next week all week.

Benjispruce · 13/09/2019 17:07

Oh im wondering why ID is needed. DD applies online and didn’t have to.
The video is good Tilly

MrsPellegrinoPetrichor · 13/09/2019 17:08

The bag is immense,it's his dad's North Face one and is the size of 3 normal suitcasesGrin

Plus suit and shoes, gym gear, Vans and 2 pairs of trainers and big coat and 2 jackets. Ds likes to be preparedGrin

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 13/09/2019 17:09

Too late for most of the current cohort of 18/19 year old DC (unless some are taking a gap year) but it's been announced that B'ham University has stopped making unconditional offers.
