Ragwort, my DS has said OK to each one so far Confused

TapasForTwo · 22/05/2019 16:42

Reporting back re vaccination boosters. The surgery said that as DD has had both MMR jabs and the MenACWY she doesn't need any more jabs. I hope this information helps someone.

GoldenRuby · 22/05/2019 17:43

I'd your DC's are 18, will the GP surgery give you info on whether they need boosters, or will I have to get DS to call them? If so I can see that I will be in nagging mode all summer...

fishonabicycle · 22/05/2019 17:46

Sociology disaster for DS. Laptop froze an hour in. The invigilator would only give him half hour all told to copy it out, and also didn't tell him the actual amount of extra time she would give him ('a bit longer' ) and then carry on. He spoke to his teacher straight after and they are writing to the exam board asking for 'extenuating circumstances' or whatever so he can get some extra marks. Poor boy was so stressed and anxious through the exam. Just had the head of year calling to apologise and the deputy head will call me tomorrow.

TapasForTwo · 22/05/2019 18:05

Golden ours did, but I had to ask. They wouldn't have volunteered the information.

BringOnTheScience · 22/05/2019 18:45

Oh fish! That's awful. Your poor DS. Hoping that the exam board see sense.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 22/05/2019 18:58

fishonabicycle your poor DS :-(. That sounds like the worst possible anxiety dream - except it's what happened. Hope everything works out for him.

Piggywaspushed · 22/05/2019 19:12

Oh no fish . My DS uses a laptop too and I always worry about this. They should have added all the time it took to rectify the issue (and give him some special circumstances enhancement)

bigTillyMint · 22/05/2019 19:24

Fish, that's really fucking terrible. Your poor DS. What kind of idiot was invigilatingand didn't seem clarigication on his time entitlement if they didn't know what they were doing Angry

stressedmum77 · 22/05/2019 19:29

DD has 1st exam today has received a place at uni depending on results.... she has just received a massive amount of homework from uni to do over the summer but what if she doesn't get the results ???? I've told her not to stress easy for me to say !!!

Shimy · 22/05/2019 19:51

Fish Shock. How is DS & when is his next exam? He needs all the time possible to calm down after this. I’d be shaking!
What can he get from extenuating circumstances, can he re examined separately?

Stressed You are kidding right? Homework and given right in the middle of their exams? They sound particularly thoughtless. That would put me off them frankly.

GoldenRuby · 22/05/2019 19:59

@TapasForTwo thanks. Will give the surgery a ring.

OKBobble · 22/05/2019 20:54

Re the laptop. The clock (for him should have been stopped), the work transferred over or printed off and a different laptop provided for him to finish. If a laptop is being used it is networked to the school's system and it would have been saving to there as he went along.

This was a clear error on the part of the invigilator and you should speak to the Exams Officer as soon as possible.

bigTillyMint · 22/05/2019 21:14

Stressed, IIRC, DD got homework for her start of first year (and DS gf) though not in middle of Alevels! They both did the homework to find that they were virtually the only ones who had Grin

justasking111 · 22/05/2019 21:17

What homework do the uni. set, I was looking forward to a stress free summer Shock

cardy1969 · 22/05/2019 21:20

@fishonabicycle that's awful for him. Hope there is something they can do.

Sociology here today. Dd said it was fine, then has started to doubt herself. She now getting stressed about what to revise over half term especially as she has 2 on one day then 3 consecutive days. DH is trying to help her write a revision timetable so all subjects/papers are covered equally without being to far from the actual exam. So much to think about.

fishonabicycle · 23/05/2019 07:18

I told him to just relax for the rest of the day - his head of year has called me to apologise and say that the school are going to do everything they can to make the board give him extra marks, and she called F as well to speak to him. The deputy head is calling me today as well. The school also have said if his grade isn't good enough to get the university place he wants, they will call them up to explain as well. He actually coped as well as anyone could have done - and dealt with it really well, so I'm really proud of him.

He has 2 weeks til next paper now so hopefully will be OK by then. And yes - total actual nightmare situation 😨

bigTillyMint · 23/05/2019 07:24

Sounds like the school are doing their best to retrieve the situation Fish. Bet they feel awful but also don't want anyone looking into what went on.

Shimy · 23/05/2019 12:23

Fish - Sounds like school are pulling out all the right stops. Good for DS.

DS here just did Economics paper 2, said he didn’t finish, ran out of time🥺. it was okay but he’s not as chirpy as yesterday. This is his strongest subject and was hoping he’ll make up for some points lost in Maths.

minesawine · 23/05/2019 12:41

Hi Shimy My DS was the opposite. He felt he did really well compared to economics paper 1. He was so nervous this morning, bless him. He has not started his maths exams yet (Edexcel I think) which will be his focus over half term.

Shimy · 23/05/2019 12:58

mineswine. That’s really good news for you, well done to DS.. DS will also be steaming on with Maths over the half term as well. The weather suddenly felt ten times as hot when he called to say he ran out of time.

ZandathePanda · 23/05/2019 14:05

Dds wisdom teeth are choosing to out themselves this week. The irony.

fishonabicycle · 23/05/2019 15:09

Haha zanda! Just had his very lovely sociology teacher calling too - she is determined to do everything she can - apply to the exam board for consideration, she will contact his chosen university too and ask them to bear it in mind, and if they find on results day that the board haven't given him extra marks, will appeal it immediately. So I feel happy the school are doing everything they can.

bigTillyMint · 23/05/2019 16:46

That's good to hear Fish.

DS seemed to think the Eco was a bit harder than the first paper, but all done till after half term Smile

RedHelenB · 23/05/2019 16:49

Dd done history and sociology so far. Very happy with the latter but less certain with history. At least she has sone more time now to relax and revise before the next ones.
