LittleSpace, I've wondered if this happens. DD had two early offers in November from unis who leave most offers until after 15 Jan deadline. I wondered if Durham take it slow to see how many Oxbridge rejects they pick up after decision day. Not sure about Warwick, but two Personal Statements are required - although the second has to be geared to the course, they apparently do look at the first so maybe that takes longer.

LittleSpace · 04/02/2019 15:01

ds had an early offer from Bath. He is just going on offer days to be sure but then he will probably release that place as he wants to go somewhere else.

Just tell them to be patient & they might still get an offer.

Fazackerley · 04/02/2019 15:21

yes possibly although that sort of suggests first come first served. i expect they had lots of good candidates who applied just before the deadline.

bigTillyMint · 04/02/2019 17:07

BigGreenOlives, DS is waiting on History at Durham too - good to know it's not just him!

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 04/02/2019 18:14

How frustrating for those of you whose DC are still waiting on offers. TBQH I was expecting a long wait for DS to hear from Durham but he must have been very lucky to hear quickly (maybe not many apply to Durham for Geography?!).

We are still waiting to hear from Imperial. Anyone know anyone who has heard from them?

LittleSpace · 04/02/2019 19:39

Durham gave one of my dd's an offer in April. She had given up! I believe that they tend to offer in batches.

ds knows someone who has applied to Imperial and they confirmed that they are not giving out offers for his subject until end of March.

BringOnTheScience · 04/02/2019 20:22

Sheffield (2nd choice) rang tonight. They get 3rd years to ring up for a chat about accomodation, etc!

Interview at Manchester (1st choice) later this month. Waiting for any news from Edinburgh, so unable to make any decisions yet.

blametheparents · 04/02/2019 20:48

Same happened to DS tonight - a call from Sheffield to see how interested DS is in going there.

marine04 · 04/02/2019 20:56

@Itscoldouthere my son is waiting to hear about biological sciences too but from Warwick. He's got offers from Edinburgh, Exeter, Kent and Portsmouth. He got his fourth offer on the 4th January and is getting a bit fed up waiting now! I hope your DS hears soon.

Wiifitmama · 04/02/2019 21:07

@littlespace Is it for maths? That is what my son has applied for. They have had the MAT scores for so long now that it makes no sense they are not offering!

Laniakea · 04/02/2019 21:39

dd's still waiting for Southampton (interview was on Saturday), we were told the the interview scores would be reviewed this morning & she'd hear by this evening. Nothing yet. Sigh.

LittleSpace · 04/02/2019 21:46

Yes. He applied very early.

Wiifitmama · 04/02/2019 21:51

Yes same with my son as he did oxbridge too. I think Imperial had the same timeline as oxbridge anyway due to the MAT.

Laniakea · 04/02/2019 22:50

She literally just got her offers! She’s going to firm the masters & insure the BSc - got really lovely feedback. So happy!

Decorhate · 05/02/2019 07:11

So pleased to hear that Laniakea! Well done to her.

Fazackerley · 05/02/2019 07:13

fab news!

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 05/02/2019 08:23

Well done to your DD, Laniakea, and for decision making too.

Great news, Laniakea.

Laniakea · 05/02/2019 10:16

So this is what she ended up with. Cardiff & Liverpool reduced their offers on the basis of her EPQ/GCSE results. Bangor took into account the AS level she already has.

Soton (MSc) AAB
Soton (BSc) ABB
Cardiff (MSci) BBB
Liverpool (MOSci) ABB
Bangor (MSc) AB (including physics)

Southampton haven’t reduced their offers but considered her EPQ in the interview & their email said this “The offer is our standard offer but I will consider you for the place even if you do slip a couple of grades in the exams based on your good interview.”

She’s cancelled the Cardiff offer holder day, just waiting for Southampton to update UCAS & we’re done! 16 school weeks left ... just the minor issue of getting the grades now (terror).

Lililili · 05/02/2019 11:54

DD had a call from a student at Bath, but was too anxious to take it. Sounds like lots of universities are doing it.

justasking111 · 05/02/2019 12:22

DS firmed his choice yesterday so last evening we were studying halls of residence which he has narrowed down to two.

Suddenly I am feeling very sad knowing our time together is now finite. We have all worked hard to get to this place I am so happy for him, but grieving for my youngest who is off to spread his wings. Does that make sense.

Lililili · 05/02/2019 12:32

It does make sense although this is my first. Excitement and sadness mixed. I think and hope that University will be a kind of transition time though and she will still want to spend time here in the holidays ....

VanCleefArpels · 05/02/2019 12:46

justadking I definitely went through a period of grieving when my older one went to Uni, mostly because I saw it as the end of something (my role in their life) whereas I know I should have been celebrating the exciting start of something new. I like to think I’m more emotionally prepared when my younger one goes this year —but actually I know I will be a wreck—

Fazackerley · 05/02/2019 12:57

dd has had calls from Swansea and uea but hates the calls and doesnt really have anything to ask!
