You're welcome.
It also says the Director of Music Dr Rutt is based in the Cultural Institute, in the College of Arts and Humanities, and can be contacted by email: [email protected]. Ian is always happy to discuss new ideas and possibilities, and to hear your views on music at Swansea – contact him to arrange a meeting.

I would get DS to give him a email him to discuss in more detail.Smile

DitheringDan · 16/03/2019 16:49

Thanks, he sounds really nice. In fact all the Swansea staff we spoke to were very approachable and friendly. It’s quite a decision!

Itscoldouthere · 16/03/2019 20:57

Fazack DS just announced he had news at supper !
He’s got a Bath offer late last night, they’ve offered him AB (he has an A already) so standard offer of AAB.
Happy but a bit disappointed as it’s the highest offer he’s been given, he will go to offers day (don’t know when next one is) but it’s going to have to be really go to risk the higher grade (he’s got ABB from Birmingham).
Interestingly the email is from UCAS track he’s not had the official Bath letter yet.
At least he’s not waiting anymore.

Itscoldouthere · 16/03/2019 21:00

‘Really Good’ 🙄

DitheringDan · 16/03/2019 21:20

Ahem.

Anybody have a nice brick wall handy?

Thank you.

DS, mid-wrangle with the decision between Manchester and Swansea, has realised that in fact Cardiff -- which he didn't apply to - has his ideal course, and also combines a somewhat livelier city with the Welsh countryside.

He is now saying that he might as well give them a call and see if they'll take a late application.

Is he mad?

Answers on a postcard please.

Itscoldouthere · 16/03/2019 21:48

Oh my dithering don’t you just love them 😳
Must say I’m managing to micro manage DS 2 in this whole uni application process, however last week DS 1 who is 21 announced that he thinks he wants to also go to uni and is contemplating a late application (to an art college) for this year! Now he is a completely different type and is doing it all his way 🤪 not sure how he’s going to get on !

Itscoldouthere · 16/03/2019 21:52

On a more serious not I do think it’s really important to choose the course that actually suits you best !

DitheringDan · 16/03/2019 22:22

Two at once, Itscoldoutthere? Oh, lucky you!

Am now semi-seriously considering taking DS3 (yr 12) out of school on Weds 27th and hauling the pair of them round Cardiff Open Day together.

Itscoldouthere · 16/03/2019 22:23

‘Note’ sorry 🍷🍷🍷

Itscoldouthere · 16/03/2019 22:29

I’m not sure DS 1 has what’s needed to get in, but I think he’s been inspired to consider it by DS 2.
I’d love him to go as I know he’d have a great time, he’s really sociable (unlike DS 2) and is much more mature and together now after working and going back on a HNC part time, so I do think it would suite him, but a late application is a bit tricky.
On the other hand if he has to wait another whole year I don’t think he’d do it as he’d be 23 by then.

justasking111 · 16/03/2019 23:16

DS has chosen his accommodation, he received an e-mail to confirm but forgot to tell me until I mentioned it. I asked him from now on to forward to me any e-mails that involved financial commitment, he wanted to know why (bangs head)

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 17/03/2019 08:06

justasking111 DS is like that too - furtive almost. Just bought him a 'university' docs file to keep all paperwork in otherwise I can see him losing vital things.

DitheringDan good for your DS to have now found the perfect course. I guess this whole process is a learning curve and if it helps our young people to decide what they do/don't want it's all construction (albeit at times infuriating as a parent). Hope Cardiff are able to consider his application at this stage -- fingers crossed.

Itscoldouthere, good luck to your DS1. I think some young people just need time to mature and find their passions before embarking on higher education pathways.

construction (????) - that should have read constructive.

Fazackerley · 17/03/2019 08:53

dan Cardiff would be perfect for dd, sadly they don't do her course! She's already worked out that it's 45 mins on the bus!

mushroom3 · 17/03/2019 16:18

Hi Dithering,
I have no idea about Swansea and music. I do know however if he would end up on Bay the bus stops there and there are regular buses to and from Cardiff. If he decides Cardiff would be the place for him, I'm wondering if he'd have to wait until clearing opens, as Extra is if you have no offers. There are people on mumsnet who seem to have kept the info on what went into clearing last year.

MarchingFrogs · 17/03/2019 18:07

If the course is still accepting applications for 2019 entry and he hasn't used all 5 UCAS options already, he can just apply in the normal way. Applications after June 30th are automatically put into Clearing.

If he has already used all 5, he would have to decline any offers he is currently holding in order to apply through Extra.

DitheringDan · 17/03/2019 20:35

He’s already used all five options and has five offers. Declining all five on the off chance would be quite the gamble.

titchy · 17/03/2019 20:38

To be honest dithering Cardiff will have had pretty much all the applications and made all the offers they're going to make, so he wouldn't gain anything from withdrawing and applying there now. He may as well wait till he's got his offers and see if they're in clearing/adjustment. At least he won't be risking his current offers that way.

DitheringDan · 17/03/2019 20:51

Ah - is that specific knowledge about Cardiff this year or more general?

Fazackerley · 17/03/2019 21:01

Dd still hasnt heard from Bath Confused but has had a reduced offer from Swansea.

MarchingFrogs · 17/03/2019 21:15

Sorry, couldnt remember which course you had said your DS was interested in, DitheringDan, but looking at the BMus and various BA Music options, Cardiff are still open for applications for 2019 start.

(Apologies if it was for something else, which turns out to be closed).

hellsbells99 · 17/03/2019 21:21

If anyone is considering making a late application, just get your DC to phone the department up and see whether they would accept a late application and ask what their chances are of getting an offer.
My DD made a late application 3 years ago at Easter and didn’t have a problem with her choices

hellsbells99 · 17/03/2019 21:22

X-post with Marchingfrogs

Fazackerley · 17/03/2019 21:23

But can you make a late application if youve already made 5 choices?

DitheringDan · 17/03/2019 21:24

You’re all vary kind (DH is going for the option of saying he’s an adult and it’s his life, which is true but slightly exasperating). No, it’s a combined English/foreign language degree rather than music though he’s a keen musician.

I’ll look at the website again and see if the course says whether it’s still taking applications, thanks.
